The Swiss must have an attraction to the outback. In a previous episode, there was a Swiss man [Christian] travelling across the outback on a bicycle. In this episode, Barbara leaves Zurich to come to the outback to marry Roy. I must admit, I see the attraction in the environment, simple life etc.
No, he was talking about "consorting" with aborigines - he was sleeping with them (including the "studs"). "The boy told the trooper, the trooper come out and collected me..."
he was talking about how they weren't aloud to talk to aborigines in town. he and some other people did talk to them and were punished by being put in chains and "trained" with them.
thanks for the post. I,m an aussie in eastern europe and it really lifts my spirits to see this. I really love MD and his films. nothing beats the aussie outback and the characters. Thanks

I have trouble understanding Roy. Can someone explain what he's saying when they are talking about the natives in chains?

Man, that'd be such a great way to live. No TV, no radio, nothing. Getting back to basics, only having the necessities.
