Sprouse was at his apex with his 1983 - 1985 collections (particularily his fall '84 collection). Though his shapes and silhouettes were largely derivative of 1960's Mod, Sprouse energized it with Day-Glo colors and his trademark backwards graffiti, presenting something that had never been seen before. The rest of his body of work left a lot to be desired. His 1987 - 1988 multi-priced collections were often dreadful: cheap textiles, poor construction, and unoriginal (and often laughable).
