  • I didn't know that ancient Macedonians spoke with Scottish accents, 6:14. Where did they cast this epic, Glasgow? They forgot to bring their bagpipes. Well, at least they didn't forget their kilts.

  • 0:48 the epic moment where the Greek technique beats the persian !

USA should take examples from Alexander for how to conquer east XD

  • if Alexander is supposed to follow his Eagle, why didn't he chase after Darius

  • 3:50 like a boss

  • Phalanx FTW !

  • 9:35 the backups are coming !

  • i respect the man after this battle and having been a military genius but after this he went a bit greedy and full of himself after delclaring himslef a god and naming every city after his name

  • This has got to be the most collosal land battle ever depicted in any movie. Even bigger than the invasion of Normandy in 'the Longest Day'. One thing tho. Alexander's army was victorious but Alexander himself didn't really do a damn thing except ride around on his horse and yell. He fights for a few minutes at the very end but almost immediately gets his ass kicked and only survived because uncle Klytis and hubby Hephaistion saved his hide. But damn didn't Alexander look pretty on that horse.

  • Man, finally a war movie that does a huge, huge battle exactly the way it should be; people pissing themselves, blood everywhere, screams of battle and dying men indistinguishable in the cacaphony, communication lines breaking and, of course, dust. Big, big clouds of dust. You never see that in some huge battle scene movies.

Basically it's a battle sequence that gets that war sucks.

  • clap for the unic archer in the battle

  • Great Battle, great movie; Love Greek Mythology/history!

  • great fighting...fuckin brutal !!

  • 7:27

This is true fighting with a head :)

  • Them horses can sure run.. Lol. Poor things must've been exhausted.

  • The 'Director's Cut' version of this battle has that great moment where they mention the Hypaspistes ("Shield Bearerers"):

    "Shields break off!"

    "The Shields are here!"

"AHHHH! Drive for the hole! Drive for the hole!"

This version misses it. :/ The Shield Bearers (later the Silver Shields, or "Argyraspides") are my favorite unit in Alexander's army.

  • @eXcommunicate1979 Have you played ever Alexander Total War? i have, and this unit indeed kick-ass!

  • @ellinokiprios13 They really do.

  • @ellinokiprios13 The Companions were best cavary of ancient world. They are good against almost everything. Becouse of speed and 3m long spears they are good against cavalry and especially infantry, they were no shield so they are vourlnouble against archers, but you got to be hardskilled archer to shoot one of them becouse they are light armoured and fast. And yes! This is some badass cavalry!

  • @eXcommunicate1979 Try playing Hegemony, Philip of Macedonia. Its a blast!

  • @eXcommunicate1979 same....Seleucus would soon command them and in my view would become the most successful of the Diadichi

  • I am wondering about one thing.

The macedonians have these long spears that they use to mow down the approching emeny with. But doesnt that mean that the dead bodies piple up on the spears, making them impossible to handle?

  • @Alsemenor well, i think the spears could be easily pulled off the enemy once a pikeman killed his enemy. but these pikes were 14 feet long. so if the very front rank had trouble the back ranks with a little push could buy time for the front rank to reform. im just guessing here.

  • to this day I have no idea how the peltasts accompanying Alexander's cavalry wing kept up on foot

  • well its strange. that time the high disciplined west was fighting against the non disciplined east.

today the east (such as china) is highly disciplined while people in the west get fat and loose wars in the middle east, as there is no stronge military discipline left in the societies of the west.

Ironic history is going to defeat those, you are in the false believe to own or rule the world. poor america.

  • @jamestaylor94b That's a very lame, untrue and bull-shitty thing to say. East was as "disciplined" as West. Persian, Indian philosophy and science, if you want to look far enough even Chinese philosophy and science...these places weren't some shitty cultureless and mindless tribal-tent places; progress was an actual, common aspiration across the spectrum back then. Afghanistan probably looked better and seemed more promising than it does today etc. Try not to bend history for sensationalism.

  • @jamestaylor94b ok, when china can feed their average citizen i might believe you

  • Why didn't just someone shoot him?! That bastard of a Macedonian should have been killed long before this battle! >:-/

  • western superiority

  • @Lenangreal wester "superiority" did nothing againts the scythians.

  • @TzeentchChaos western superiority cared nothing about godforsaken steppe kingdoms

  • @Lenangreal godforsaken, because your gods forsake you if you come to these lands.

  • @TzeentchChaos nor the greeks had any contact with the scythians, nor the romans, so who cares

  • @Lenangreal Alexander had, and what about with those scythians who you call huns, didnt they beated the romans?

  • @TzeentchChaos lacking in history uh? schythyans were an iranic indoeuropean civilization, while huns were not. and whats your point? feel proud of non being western? because, as i know, hungary is a western nation

  • @Lenangreal scythians are not indueuropeans, and scythians, huns, avars, alans, magyars, just names to the same people, the only thing you are correct, Hungary is a western nation(if we looking on eu-asia)

but we are from east, we keeped our culture, our language. here is a video about the scythians:

    /watch?v=IHiFJey8ZR0&feature=channel_video_title

  • @TzeentchChaos according to wikipedia and history books, such my encyclopaedia britannica, schythians are indoeuropeans. anyway, neither finns have an indoeuropean language but theyre certainly western. even slavs are from east, does this make them "non-western"? instead, you should say: "yeah western culture is indeed superior, eastern (and with eastern i mean - from middle east from far east) should only learn from us"

You know what? europeans should never argue each other about this

  • @Lenangreal we must argue because these are lies.

  • @TzeentchChaos to solve what?

  • @Lenangreal Skythian origin is still disputed, language too.. At the same time it seems like all Slavs have relation to them. it's not like Iran = skythians, Skythians had put Iran kings into pot full of blood, so that his head drink more of it :))) they were never friends. Massagets hated Persians, Saaka hated Persians, Sarmats hated Persians, Parthians hated Persians :))) All hated Persians except of Persians. Despite they all seems like spoke same language....

  • @Hashishtani in those times a thing like nationality didnt existed. nationalism is a recent "invention", from 1900. despite venetians and genoese in 1500 spoke all italian, they were costantly at war with each other. So they were not "italians" because of their rivalry? And btw Parthians (aka the Arsacid dinasty) was on of the dinasties of persians that ruled Persia. In order - Achemenids, Arsacids (parthians), Sasanid.

  • @Lenangreal

What? Nationalism is an ancient ideology. The Germanic tribes were like this, so were the Slavs, and many others.

  • @Vovk3 not true. nationalism arose in 18th century. im surprised of the lack of people's lack of knowledge of history

  • @Lenangreal

Only in name. You have idea what you're talking about.

  • @Vovk3

That was more tribalism than anything else man, nationalism is a relatively new phenomenon

  • And now, yes, today, what are the greeks doing? Resisting. Fighting for their dignity and lives. And damn, I'm not referring to the politicians or the corrupt. I'm not greek, but I live in this land. And I'm telling you, these people won't give up easily. I sincerely hope they don't. I don't want them succumbing to world private speculative interests at all. They have their defects (don't we bloody well all?) but I wouldn't call them pigs, as others have done. As swine go, well....

  • The century long strife between persians and greeks was more than sufficient motive. The greeks had had long tradition in the art of battle, beginning from the dire Myceneans through to Alexander. Themistocles of Athens had won a great naval battle at Salamina. Leonidas and his spartans at the Termopilis. Not to mention the battle of Marathona. All this before Alexander himself. This young and complicated guy (not at all complicated given his uncontainable ambition) encompassed all and is MYTH.

  • Bloody symbolic, isn't it? And reminiscent of our times. The Macedonians (whom, by the way, were Greeks) fought and won. The reasons for such a victory lie not only in the surprising strategical ability of the young Alexander (about 25 years of age) but also in the general preparation and ability..and motivation...of the greeks. Philip before Alexander had practically invented the Sarissa, the long spear the macedonian phalanxes used in battle.

  • 4:00 He does look like someone does he?

  • Back in the 331 BC where war was determined by skill, focus, and strengh, Oh man back in the days

  • @pepinozinanasshole yea, those days... but in any time or war, whether in ancient times or these times. you need an enemy who believes the same values. it would be nice though.

  • very epic and badly filmed battle scene

  • 2:30, best left turn in history

  • Why are my movies always cut short?

    Great upload

  • @JFCPantheras

    YOUR movies?

  • @Jammed9000 The movies I have bought, Mr Literal.

  • @JFCPantheras

And why would they be cut short? I really don't understand....

  • @Jammed9000 They cut the bloody parts out that are too graphic for TV.

    Like beheading and blood...

They basically do that with every war-movie.

  • 7:27 Fuck yeah!

  • @fferik that was bad ass!
