Lova your videos and the presentation of the presets. Very cool playing!!!! Any chance sharing the info regarding the synth stand for your TI? I have never seen anything like it. Looks like it was made to support small synths. Did you attach that TI synth stand to the bottom stand for your bigger keyboard? I don't see any shelf that TI would sit on. How did you attach the TI to that particular stand? Just curious. And again, thanks for sharing with us the awesome sounds of TI.
@psbmastering I bought this stand (both tiers) some years back at Guitar Center here in the US. It is made by "On Stage Stands" and lots of people ask me about it.

i have a virus ti (not polar) and cant find the overdrv lead patch you use at hte begining of the vid. is it in one of hte downloadable soundsets? if so can you let me know which one. ive been looking for/trying to make a patch liek that for a long time now. is it possible for you to upload it maybe?
@viraltea As i recall, there is (maybe) a whole bank of sounds that can be downloaded with the suffix "QR" in the patch names. I dl'ed it years ago - it should still be on the Access site.
I have both those keyboards.... the motif has a single sample per voice limit in multi mode which makes it sound cheap...I felt robbed when i found out... the virus ti is the mutts nuts in comparison.. everyone who likes synths should own one
@coylesolid I do it by having all of my synths connected to my computer. Then, using DIgital Performer, or a freeware MIDI patchbay program for the Mac, I can route any keyboard to any synth.
@keybdwizrd Thanks mate for that info, I've setup the Snow in Multi-mode (found it laggy in PC mode) and split my keyboard in the middle for bassline/lead. Works great, I might assign 1 or 2 keys to arpeggiated drum parts too. You got yourself a 100% life song right there.
@coylesolid Also, synths (like the TI) need to be in Sequencer/Multi mode whereby you can have different sounds assigned to multiple "parts" in the synth, and receiving data on different MIDI channels. The routing and channel assignments are handled inside Digital Performer, or any other similar program for Mac or PC.
Good morning keybdwizrd :) I am looking to buy a synth with lots of soft/gentle ambient tones that can be tweaked so it not just factory preset. Would you recommend this synth or any others? I eventually will run it through effects but am looking for something infinite and I can just take a sound and tweak it so it's not so generic....anyway I only have a polyevolver riht now and need another...thanx in advance
Any synthncan do that as long is a synth and as long you have patience and creativity. You can get the Access Virus TI for example, it all depends on what kind of music you want to do. A cheap option is the Roland JD-800 too.
Have you considered either Camel Audio's "Alchemy" or Heavyocity's "Evolve"? From what I've heard from their demos, it would seem a natural fit for what you're using on these demos.
Nice vids, you obviously have tons of sweet analogue/hardware synths, I know digital doesn't sound as good imo, do you have any soft synths that you recommend or that really stand out?
I like softsynths like Absynth 4 that make wigged-out soundscapes that aren't typically found with hardware instruments. I'd also probably like Omnisphere - need to pick that one up one of these days (when I have more time for music).
Also, IMHO, Arturia's MinimoogV softsynth can sound pretty darn close to a real analog monosynth. I need to make some vids using it one of these days.
Either synthesizer can make plenty of awesome sounds for any kind of electronic music.
The Virus TI offers computer integration, is 16-part multitimbral, and offers full onboard multi effects for all 16 parts. AFAIK, the Nord offers none of these things. So the real question is, are these features important to you, to the extent that you're willing to pay extra for them and get a TI?
I believe that the knobs on the Virus will control, in real time, parameters on the patch that is being controlled by it. If you use the Motif, for example, to play a patch in Part #2, then the Motif will control the patches belonging to that parameter.
A multi-timbral synth like the TI can have 16 parts, each responding to a different MIDI channel, with a sound loaded into each part. If a sound is loaded into part #7, and you're using a controller to play part #7, on MIDI channel #7, then any data sent via knobs from the controller to the TI will also be sent on channel #7.
If I really want to tweak sounds on the TI I just use the TI control panel itself.
I really don't know that much about it... haven't really paid much attention, but I don't think it's a huge revision. Much discussion on the Virus forums on the net.
LOL. Really, people do need to Google more... there are so many synthesizer forums out there that are full of people much more knowledgeable than I am.
i assume the motif as controlling the virus, i also suppose you can control two different patches with the each. how does that work for using realtime controls on each patch?
I have a question, what would be a good synthesizer to buy if I'm barely starting out. I plan on making some techno/trance and will put all my effort into it.
I've been playing through Ableton Live 7.0 and when I use another midi channel to control it, it assumes the system's latency and the controller's sound gets a little late!!! Terrible problem!
when you want the Motif to play the Virus patch only, do you just turn the volume on the Motif down?, thats how ive been doing it with my rig, is there a better way?
With most synths, there is a LOCAL ON/OFF parameter. When set to OFF, the MIDI signal goes out the MIDI port but does not trigger the internal synthesizer.
I use my keyboards connected to a computer. Using a simple MIDI patch bay program, or my sequencer/recording software (Digital Performer), I can route any MIDI keyboard to any synth connected to the computer.
He use Motif as MIDI controller device, question though
I have SH-201 and Juno-D, normally i link them up via mia directly(JD's out goes to SH201's IN and vice versa, there both set on the same channel and both play at the same time but when i use a midi interface they dont play simultaniously...i confused!
There are online forums for discussions like this, such as the Keys, Synths and Sampler forum at the Harmony Central website. Lots of keyboard/synth sites on the internet.
As it says at the beginning of the video, and in the description, all sounds are from the Virus TI Polar synthesizer. The sounds in the Motif are not used.
Hey keybdwizrd, i've been watching your videos for awhile now, and i've noticed you've never done a demo of the supersaws of this bad boy synth! Do you think you could pop one out when you get the time? Its pretty Important imo ;-)
Yes, multi mode. It could be done with just a MIDI cable, but I have all of my keys and synths connected to my computer via MIDI, so I can basically route anything to anything else.
I have a Midiman 4x4 and a Midiman 2x2, and I use Digital Performer software (Mac) for sequencing and recording. I also use a piece of freeware from Pete Yandell simply called "MIDI Patchbay" (also for the Mac).
Yeah I sort of agree :/ I believe the Virus is a nice synthesizer but alittle generic in it's own right. I would take an Arturia or NI VST or real analog synth to this.
Michael, you really should be doing the demos for the Virus. I listen to the demos on the Virus website, and they are mostly sound effects while you, on the other hand are making music!
Thanks. Many of the factory patches in the TI sound like "sound effect" patches to me. The Access people seem to have an interest in that sort of stuff.
I have been following your videos with interest , I too hold the same opinion of the virus patches and am in the midst of creating a soundset a little more musical for a video game i am scoring , i'll be submitting them to access when i am done for other users to download.
The patches that you are playing are yamaha motif banks ? I didn't know if you were using native banks or using it as a midi controller ;) Yamaha is about the only instrument i dont have a soundset for ;)
LOL I never actually spent time checking out the banks on the TI , I do use manuel Schleis's patch bank alot although they tend to be a bit DSP heavy so i usually strip out the effects and use external and VST effects instead to improve polyphony , I also make regular use of some of howard scars patches as starting canvases . He tends to be very DSP efficient with his programming technique and some of his sounds are pretty unique.
