Nice video!. But if needed this kind of tricks I would choose Crunchbang instead of Ubuntu, it is based on ubuntu but has very lite window manager called openbox & it's much faster, almost like android itself
I love android and I love linux. I really appreciate your bloggs. About 6 months into android w/ my evo4g. Still love it. Followed you on the subject. Your cool!
When I do adb shell in command prompt is says "device not found". How do i fix this? I have all the downloads in the correct places and my Transformer Prime is plugged in with USB debugging enabled.
Sorry, my English is bad. I could not understand what you said. I wanted to know, Ubuntu is running on the smartphone, right? VNC does not seek to another computer, just brings up a screen that Ubuntu is running with the correct resolution. Right? Another little question, you do not know if by chance I did this on my Acer Iconia A500 Tab Ubuntu could use the USB Host? I'm from Brazil. Great video!
what if i want to completely remove the android os and install ubuntu on the blank tablet. is that possible? As far as i know android uses linux kernel so how come noone still did this?
Do you by any chance have a mirror download for the ubuntu(.) zip? Download speed is limited to ~20 KB/s. Which will take 7 to 10 HOURS to download. i bet that you will reply to this faster than that download completes...
if you install wirelessadb off the market, there would be no need for the usb cable to connected. it works well on my nexus one, cant wait to update to a galaxy tab 10.1 :D how fast does linux run on the tab?
I can get all the way to the step where I "bootubuntu" but I get sh: bootubuntu cannot execute - permission denied... I know the tab is rooted and I used "su" before and had no problems. anyone have any suggestions?
You need to change Karmic to "Lucid" in the file located at data/local/ubuntu/etc/apt/sources.list in order for this to work correctly. The apt-get command won't work if you leave it as Karmic because that was discontinued months ago, so you won't be able to download the updates or install TightVNCserver until you change that file to Lucid
I'm guessing maybe the big problem why I can't get the updates to install or the VNCserver might be because I'm using GalaxyTask as my ROM (yes that's TASK) and the file system isn't quite the same, so even in the bootubuntu file it's trying to reference directories that don't even exist, and that messes up the whole ubuntu OS I'm guessing. Sucks because everything else is installed correctly, including busybox, but when I do VNCserver install it says it can't fetch file
This doesn't work for installing the vncServer anymore! It says the file is not found at the location it tries to download it from. Please tell me where I can download the "TightvncServer" so I can actually use the vnc viewer program and load the ubuntu GUI desktop! It sucks being so close with ubuntu installed and taking up over 2 gigs of memory and I can view it because the link to the VNCserver program is outdated!
Hey man I have a question, as you prob know because your a beast with android ics is comming to the tablet soon. I have followed your root vid and I am really loving my root its awesome. I am rocking the starburst rom with the overclock kernal. Will I need to do anything special to upgrade or do I just need to click software update?
@astral913 It installs Ubuntu in the background of your device, so he had to install a VNC server on it through command prompt and use a VNC viewer in Android to access it.
@DAngotti22 You probably weren't in the ubuntu folder, Make sure by typing the "ls -l" command and it should show you the bootubuntu file is there. It can't run a file that isn't in the /system/bin/sh folder so you have to be in the ubuntu folder for it to work. In other words, the ubuntu booter wasn't installed in the main system folder, so you can't just type that command anywhere you please
@DAngotti22 But even if you do get the bootubuntu file to run, you still won't be able to install the VNCserver because it's no longer at the specified location that the installer tries to access it from.
@zedomax when I put it in external_sd it actually changes the path to /sdcard/external_sd, I tried modifying the files to reflect the new path but it does not work, any suggestions?
also if put it in /sdcard/ it is actually the onboard sdcard which I do not wish to use!
@zedomax actually figured it out, to use the external sd, I changed the references /sdcard/ to "/sdcard/external_sd/ in the ubuntu.sh AND the bootubuntu files using notepad, the first time I did that, I had forgotten one of the references. im just posting it in case It can help someone :)

SEEN ALL YR VIDS for UBU install:
1-root tab with rom manager
2-Backup tab with rom manager(if rom listed and no issue with Cwm recovery)
3-Install busybox zip.file on tab root dir(restart tab in recovery mode IF POSSIBLE)
4-Get ADB file on yr C:
5-Get Ubuntu on tab root directory and follow steps on "youtube.com/watch?v=agYEOefFfto&feature=relmfu"
Guess it works well for well-known brands but in europe, we also have MEMUP tab, not even listed in Backup rom.
