beefheart and Oliver Reed swinging away at them, just taking pot shots at letterman and blair and brown and cameron and bush and clinton and obama and the rest of them over fifteen rounds?
Beefheart being asked by Letterman to comment on the musical ability of the houseband......like Picasso being asked to judge a 'painting by numbers' contest

I like Letterman, but he's usually a pretentious ass in interviews. He actually seems pretty nice in this one, genuinely interested. Thumbs up to both men!
Wow. I'm viewer #35,000, so I feel like I should comment....I actually watched this on live TV, which means I'm a very old Letterman fan; been watching him since he was the weatherman on channel 6 in Indianapolis, I even shopped at the grocery where he was a bagger...gawd, I'm old.
This is in the early days of when his MS (multiple sclerosis) was becoming apparent. When he approaches the chairs, watch him reach for the arm so he keeps his balance. Stiff legs, starting to have problems with voice. Brilliant man, still alive living north of Eureka CA.
i come to know about captain beefheart, because someone many years ago spray painted his name all around my city liverpool uk,hes awsome good old captain beefheart :)
@mrstratomaster Yeah, but I can see how it might seem like some bizarre act to someone who isn't really familiar with his stuff, especially given how he had a habit of propagating outrageous or absurd lies about himself to to the media. Perhaps the positive critical reception his painting has received is some consolation, even if I don't care for it.

Captain Beefheart is weird, that doesn't mean he's not fun and kinda cool just that he's also weird. Most unique and original guy in the biz, definitely he wasn't trying to copycat anybody.
Whomever posted this vid is a moron though, this footage is from "Late Night with David Letterman" not "Late Show".
I realize the difference seems small but Late Show implies this appearance was more recent and on CBS. Kinda throws ya off when ya see such descriptions.
i'm not american, i'm not a letterman fan, and i live in another part of the world where nobody cares who letterman is or if he was on CBS, NBC or on top of an intern, that makes me a moron i guess, i'm interested on beefheart. but i'll change the title so your whole life doesn't crumble.
Don't chang eit based onme being an asshole! I just think that your title including Late Show is misleading and that it implies the clip is much more recent than it is,that's all.
Otherwise no big deal. Seen this Capt. Beefheart piece before. Odd guy, original as hell and not my thing but still cool in it's own manner.
Beefheart wasn't drunk but i think it may have been the beginning stages of a muscular disease that i've heard he's been dealing with for years...may have had something to do with his retiring from music performance also
you gotta LOVE the handmovements! very describing and fysical, apart from beeing fun-good. and people talk about people beeing asses for laughing, but i might have laughed at some points, cause the things he say is good and also funny! he has good comedic timing. but yeah, the people laughing when he talks about the pelicans, that is no good. and some of the laughs when he shows his paintings are dumb. but i got the feeling most of them where in good fun, Don seems to be taking it goodly.:)
Every time Cap'n Beefart says something, After a second I think "what the hell does that mean", and then two seconds later it kinda makes a little sense. He's probably a valuable man.
To most people he may seam like a bumbling idiot, but it's he's way of trying to articulate his messages (to most) comes across like he's just a comfused and messed up guy, which, in his and many other artists case who are out of the box ,make it hard for people to relate to him.
gosh i used to listen a lot of beefheart well more zappa but i love that voice specially in willie the pimp but at the time i would n t dream to see on video or on show cuz there wasn t utub at the time but anyway he s great just a creativ artist with a grain of madness anyway i don t understand 100percent of the talking but it nice anyway it like an ambiance from the past
"Mirror Man", the best but Trout Mask really cool too ty for playing the Colionial in Toronto Canada

I don't think that you could be mislead as to when this interview was, when it says 1982 in the title.
Anyways Beefheart is a legend, and very original
