Just to get technical, I put some effects through the front end, like chorus, vibe and compression, and others through the fx loop, like reverb/delay/tremolo. F-in sweet.
And all you arrogant haters in the comment section need to lighten the fuck up. IF UTS USELESS TO YOU JUST LEAVE - ya wankers
generally don't comment on videos but this was just too egregious....all their videos are worthless....every single one I've seen has been far from helpful and sometimes downright stupid....this video was a case in point.
i'd love to be able to filter all the fucking expert village videos, because every time i watch one is by accident. Seriously, these guys are contaminating youtube with completely useless, boring, annoying shit. ALL their videos are a waste of time.
would it be possible for me to use the built in distortion on my tube amp, and then add reverb and echo after it using an effect loop? like (guitar)-(amp head with distortion)-(reverb delay pedals) - (Cabinet)
For the effects loop, do you know if I can use the Boss psm-5 pedal with the daisy chain to power the other pedals in the loop? I can't find any videos of it on youtube without comments being disabled. It has its own send and return, as well as an input going to the amp and one going to the guitar. I don't know if it can power the pedals in the effects loop without going straight into the guitar. If you can look at the pedal and help me out, I'll be forever grateful!
hey i have a crybaby original wah pedal and its sounds great through my other amps but when i put it into my marshall 40watt haze, the highs are really screaching and annoying. i tried messing with the eq on the amp but nothing happens. do you think using the wah through the effects loop instead of going straight from the guitar to the pedal to the amp would make a difference? Please respond!!
But... if i just plug the guitar jack 1/4 in my anus and rewire this to the mouth of my friend without using the ''send'' am I gay enought to make that sort of video? GAYVILLAGE ROCK!!
Yes the FX loop can put a line level signal which works great for spatial effects - delay rvb chorus etc but as line level can typically be around 775mV RMS it is a bit too high for say a stomp box overdrive compressor pedal which has a sensitivity typically 50mV (chain these "front end" effects at amp input).
This does work great, the only concern not mentioned here, is that stomp box output is not line level, like most rackmounted effects. The loss in db is quite noticable. This works better for rack gear, unless you have an amp loud enough to compensate for the volume loss.
hey many ppl make the mistake of selling good pedals before they try this method. i sold a bunch of stuff because i tried it in the front end, my amp didnt have a loop at the time, and this information is useful to ppl who are beginners and intermediate as well... if you like your amps distortion sound, run eq, delay, reverb chorus and whatever else you got through the loop, and its heavan... but not alot of ppl know that, so stop hatin ppl... thanks gtr tech guy... watch my vids lol
run distortion overdrive octave wah compressor in the front end, and like reverb, delay, eq, chorus, flange, time based effects in the loop so you can use your distortion from your amp with great results... the comments from the assholes on here are not helping people at all... good luck.
the effects loop has in and out. from the effects send(out) plug it into the input of the delay, then from the out of the pedal back into the effects return(in) supposing you are using the pedals wet or dry, just try it both ways and do whatever works for you. if you have more questions, just ask.
the wet is the effected signal, and dry is bypassed signal. most of the time when you turn on the effect, no fx come out of the dry. but will come on when plugged in through wet. other times it means that wet is bypassed(off) when the pedal is off... i dont have the vox delay so for now i say plug in the wet into the effects return, unless when u turn off the pedal, there is no sound. then use dry. i think it is seperated so that you can connect to 2 amps, one wet, one dry... tata and good luck.
Ok buddy. Different sound? Seriously? You mention line level, but do you really understand what that means? I don't think so. This guy is dating his cousin. First cousin.
I watched because all I saw of the title was: "How to Get the Best Guitar Sound from an Amplifier" and it's a video about effects loops? I figured out what those were the day I brought my first amp home when I was 13. Thanks for a helpful piece of advice there, guys.
I just lost a minute of my life... Why there is a word "using" in the title while you are not using it at all?! You could atleast plug something in the loop and then in front to show the difference
need help!? I have a Marshall MG HDFX, I do what he says but i dont get anny sound from my effect?? i plug my guitar to the head input, my effect from send to return fx, but if I plug my guitar to my effects and then to my head I have sound from my effects...
You plug the effects send into the input of your 1st pedal and then link all your other effects together and than when you are done you take the output of your pedal to the return of the effects loop. And then, obviousely you plug your guitar to the input of the head.
he probably should have stated which effects should go in the fx loop. things like overdrive and a wah pedal shouldnt go through it. things like a delay pedal would go well in there. that way, its not affected by your pedals and amp tone wise.
granted a distortion pedal should be left out of an FX loop. What do you think about a Phaser, Delay Equalizer and Pitchshifter going through the FX loop? are these the kind of FXs that need to be going through the loop?
i think a delay and equalizer would be good to go through the fx loop. as for the Phaser, and pitchshifter, id probably put those in front of the amp. although, im not exactly sure on what a pitchshifter is. do you mean like an octavio pedal? still, id put it in front. the loop is for more background stuff you dont want coloured. so delay for example you would want nice and clean and not coloured by the amp or pedals.
THIS WAS HELPFUL, never really used my shit, just straight distortion from the amp itself
i admit expervillage is kinda elementary, omg you guys have horrible recording engineering videos, i sit there hitting my head on my desk scream WHY THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH THIS SHIT??. but simple things like this, do make a difference, i've always used effects off my computer for recordings when i mix and edit.
but for live, ahh, this changes things just a little to where i'm comfortable and happy, thxs
most of you ppl insulting this site obviously dont realize that these ppl are teaching the less than obvious stuff. i didnt start using my fx loop till this vid, and it totally rox! delay chorus reverb flange in the loop, noise gate and tubescreamer in the input. there are alot of younger guitarists that this info is helpful to. so thanx expert village
ahh... that was very useful ... i didnt know any of that before watching this thank you once again expert village for putting up yet another insightful video ....
ok the send should be connected with the imput of the effect pedal, then the cable that should go to the guitar should be connected with return and you need a third cable to connect your amp and guitar the normal way.
He never explained how the cables connect.... i mean ive been putting them ontop of the amp and its not working.... and i tryed plugging my kettle into it but it didnt make a sound and i didnt get any tea.....
Its all trial and error. Effects are gonna give different results depending on where u put them. I actually use effects loops to decrease the number of pedals i need. its all about midi pedals and bypass. The more stuff in the rack, the less im gonna trip over drunk onstage.
Jesus christ! This is horrible. I've seen a lot of "experts" saying that you can put your pedals in the effectsloop. But that bullshit. if you put a line level input into your effect pedals you're gonna blow them up...
the reason i use the effects loop is then i run my preamp (of my amplifier) before the pedals themselves. so if i was a cleaner more distinct sound, say with a DELAY pedal or REVERB i would run it through the effects loop and it would keep it cleaner sounding. although, you do have to keep in check the passive active switch on the effects loop (I have a JVM 410H, so i have every knob human has put on an amplifier) to make sure it doesnt sound like poop.!
Ye ok. But you need to have that switch. The "expert" isn't telling about such a switch. The problem is that your floorpedals are made for microphone level inputs, while your fx send in most cases sends a line level output. This might destroy your pedal.
Thanks for the advice there. Should I need advice on how to take a poop while sitting on the toliet, i will ask this guy for help as he sure knows his stuff.
Just alittle different huh? Wow, where did they get this dude? Delay and modulation [chorus, flange, ect.] sound great through the loop. Unless they are noisy analog types built for the face. Distortion, wah, pitch shifting, ect. should be run through the face input. This guy is gonna confuse new players and cause unbearable screeching noises in their amps. I'm a novice and i know that.
Good demo but you forgot to mention that by putting the effects through the loop, you are getting more of your guitars natural sound as its signal is not going through all the effects before it reaches the amp. I think! tt ;O)
O okay so you need 3 cords in all, 2 to and from the pedal/effects loop, and then another cord for your guitar direct into front of amp? Also does anyone know if this is safe/recommended for PODxt LIVE, thx
These experts at Expert Village aren't exactly experts. It's just classic how he describes the function of the effects loop as, "it makes your effects sound a little different than putting them in front of the amp". The next step would be to explain because it's effecting the amplified signal instead of the dry signal etc. Now I need to poop.
its painful how he didnt describe what type of amps have it, what kind of amp he was demonstrating, how he didnt do anything but talk, and how he didnt show a how to
be very careful, especially if your on the jeigermusic tour. word has it, that obama a.c.o.r.n employees have breached a g.p.s thread that allows subsequent information gathering devices to be secretly monitired throughout effects loops across this nation & some idle third world countries."be patient" as we speak, musicans friend has joined their efforts with confidental navy seals to gather logistics to exactly where "barney frank" is utilizing these loops in order to obtain gay propeganda.@#$
......ummm well i just did this and my amp nearly blew up! It was the loudest most painful noise i have ever heard i am still shaking. I had to rip the plug out of the wall before my head exploded! I hope its not broken. WTF man
holy shit dude!!!!!!1 i never knew about effect pedals!!not at all...i never knew aaaanyything u said on thsi video...it was great help and worth wathic...u fucking retarted piece of crap...my dog would know that u fag
wow - this video explained next to nothing..no more than the owner's manual would have. "It's going to sound a little different...". Thanks man - good explanation.
The best part of this though are the comments and all you guys arguing over this and that. F^ng hilarious. BTW - you may make a good argument and have good points, but if you can't spell for shit and don't use punctuation, you just look like an ass. Spell check people - spell check.

Jesus christ! This is horrible. I've seen a lot of "experts" saying that you can put your pedals in the effectsloop. But that bullshit. if you put a line level input into your effect pedals you're gonna blow them up...
prindal1 2 years ago 3
actually no not really at all....
the reason i use the effects loop is then i run my preamp (of my amplifier) before the pedals themselves. so if i was a cleaner more distinct sound, say with a DELAY pedal or REVERB i would run it through the effects loop and it would keep it cleaner sounding. although, you do have to keep in check the passive active switch on the effects loop (I have a JVM 410H, so i have every knob human has put on an amplifier) to make sure it doesnt sound like poop.!
firstgearlead 2 years ago
Ye ok. But you need to have that switch. The "expert" isn't telling about such a switch. The problem is that your floorpedals are made for microphone level inputs, while your fx send in most cases sends a line level output. This might destroy your pedal.
prindal1 2 years ago
that's not actually true-

Holy fuck this guy is dumb. Talk about a huge over simplification of a fucking effects loop.
ILikeJuice 2 years ago
Thanks for the advice there. Should I need advice on how to take a poop while sitting on the toliet, i will ask this guy for help as he sure knows his stuff.
Dr9000 2 years ago
That difference might be a "bad difference" in many cases but "experts" aren´t allowed to say such thing...
MrLarryAppleton 2 years ago
Just alittle different huh? Wow, where did they get this dude? Delay and modulation [chorus, flange, ect.] sound great through the loop. Unless they are noisy analog types built for the face. Distortion, wah, pitch shifting, ect. should be run through the face input. This guy is gonna confuse new players and cause unbearable screeching noises in their amps. I'm a novice and i know that.
siktik79 2 years ago
I know dude! This explanation is fucking TERRIBLE!!! Gah... pisses me off.
ILikeJuice 2 years ago
Good demo but you forgot to mention that by putting the effects through the loop, you are getting more of your guitars natural sound as its signal is not going through all the effects before it reaches the amp. I think! tt ;O)
trevtrevtrevl 2 years ago
O okay so you need 3 cords in all, 2 to and from the pedal/effects loop, and then another cord for your guitar direct into front of amp? Also does anyone know if this is safe/recommended for PODxt LIVE, thx

These experts at Expert Village aren't exactly experts. It's just classic how he describes the function of the effects loop as, "it makes your effects sound a little different than putting them in front of the amp". The next step would be to explain because it's effecting the amplified signal instead of the dry signal etc. Now I need to poop.

be very careful, especially if your on the jeigermusic tour. word has it, that obama a.c.o.r.n employees have breached a g.p.s thread that allows subsequent information gathering devices to be secretly monitired throughout effects loops across this nation & some idle third world countries."be patient" as we speak, musicans friend has joined their efforts with confidental navy seals to gather logistics to exactly where "barney frank" is utilizing these loops in order to obtain gay propeganda.@#$

wow - this video explained next to nothing..no more than the owner's manual would have.
