I'm a Canadian opera singer too and over the tempo of this piece there is the great sad emotion that we have to put on and Vickers has found is own speed to deliver his emotions.
This is also the difference between a great emotional artist and an artist who makes beautiful sounds on a right tempo... Too fast this lieder is unfortunately cold for big voices...
C'est une des meilleurs interprétations qui soit. Vickers nous donne la profondeur du cour anéanti par l'amour brisé, là où Fischer-Dieskau nous livre sa ferveur pas encore éteinte. Heureusement il existe suffisamment d'excellentes interprétations pour que tout le champs des impressions soit couvert.
