@henriqvist It doesn't say "Artists only use Modo" you dipstick. "Modo is for artists" is just a simple and true statement. It's like saying "Water is for drinking", and you replying with "Well then what am I supposed to do with this milk!?"
@ericspring In that case aren't all 3d apps for artists? Presonally I find the Modo UI to be horrid. If it was better and the modeling wasn't the same idiocy used in Lightwave, I might consider buying it.
@ericspring I agree with you, and I didn't see what henriqvist said, but according to your post it would be more like replying "Water isn't just for drinking" to someone who says "Water is for drinking", since milk is another element that had anything to do with it in the first place. (i.e.: artist->water, modo->drinking)
Wow I didn't know this Software is so good. I'm slowly getting started with 3D stuff as a hobby, I've started with 3Ds Max. I know the other programs like Lightwave, Cinema4D,Rhino,Blender, Maya, etc. but I never knew about Modo.
but I already realized that 3D modeling is so much work, its consuming a looot of time.I'm not motivated enough to spend so much time on something I don't get money for. I need to get faster, or maybe i'm using the wrong/slow program? HELP -.-
@bibbed87 modeling is like drawing, its less about what tool (program) your using, and more about the skill of the user (you). The more practice you put in, the faster and better you'll get. They say it takes about 10,000 hours at your craft to become a master, so it takes the determination and motivation to get there
@greenegsnham ask any professional artist, they're going to tell you its not the tool that makes you good. Sure different programs can make modeling easier or harder, but like i said its Less about the tool. If you dont understand the basics of the craft it doesnt matter what tool or program you use, its going to come out like crap
Did you work on Avatar and 300? I'm guessing you're just talking crap, because they in fact used more than a dozen different 3D packages, including modo. So next time you feel the urge to post, perhaps you should check your facts first before making a complete dick of yourself.
And learn some punctuation while you're at it. Lightwave is not the 'best they made'. :(
@Mallte100 Actually, a number of different software were used, including LW which is still used in many pipelines, but almost all assets are brought into Maya at one time in production, and the reason is it's a lot easier adding to Maya than other mainstream software. Modo is very powerful, its subD modeling tools are amazing and while it's true there are many similarities with LW, Modo's gone beyond in almost every respect. LW's native render is still great. Ironman 1 was fully rendered in it.
@fabiobit Worng (as are most comments from ignorant LW fans)
Here's a quote " We modelled in modo, animated in xsi, and rendered the Mark 1 suit in Lightwave 9.3. Where did you get the idea we used fprime?"
Note that only the Mark1 was rendered in LW. That's the one that was only shown for a short bit in the begining of the movie. You will also notice that they DID NOT render it in modo.
@Mallte100 More than likely they used a freelancer that used lightwave for a few small shots. The majority was done with "real" 3d software. Lightwave is dead, the prgrammers weren't even competent enough to finish "Core" and had to scrap the whole idea (after years of hype). Newtek is all about hype and has completely faild to follow through on most of their promises. About the only people using Lightwave any more are hobyists. The last SIGGRAPH was just plain sad.
@Mallte100 Wong! stop getting all your information from Newtek. It was used in VERY SMALL PARTS of those productions. Most of the work was done in real 3d programs.
@TheEZhexagon What a complete load of rubbish. It's a known fact in the 3D world that luxology/modo forums is one of the most friendly communities there is. Do you work for Autodesk?
Is that a drawing that your molding it to? How do I don that I have always just done it from looking at something out side of the computer, how do you do that can you tell us how we get a drawing to mold to inside of Modo?
Someone please tell me the main benefit Modo has above other 3D programs? Specifically Maya (Other than Maya's absolutely horrid user interface) or 3D's Max.
No sarcasm or anything, i'm totally serious, I am very curious about this program.
modo is definitely a nice program, but its not so much the program, but what you are comfortable with and the hard work you put into it that makes the work great!
Hi. Aprox by the year 2020 a laptop will reach the human brain potential for processing data which means that there is a huge market waiting for hundreds of billions dollars to be sold or invested in humanoid robots and intelligent systems and the beginning of the bigger industry ever maid in human history. Search on Google luisbeck007 you will find the most complete humanoid robot list in the World, good information and interesting issues.
:) not really. One artist used it for some personal quick previews...it's not like you could say they USED it to make Avatar. I'm a big Modo fan ...I believe it works the way all things are supposed to work.
Modo's repositioning tools in this video seem to work much better compared to the wierd transpose tools in Zbrush.
Plz do correct me if i'm wrong..i'm just thinking out loud here cuz even though zbrush is a really amazing program, its workflows seem very strange and counter intuitive to me. especially when ppl r starting out or intermediate level in it.

Maya is just so convoluted, full creeping featuritis, my brain was fully repelled haha. Same with FormZ. 3D studio Max like mm dunno 'bout that.
