  • wow!,great work...

  • amazing.

  • Try Shade 3D 12. Good and cheap.

  • awesome!!! and i also like the music

  • is it easy? can i use it only for importing object and make a scene without sculpt?

  • hey i just have a question is modo better than blender ? easier to use ?

  • @TheC4Guy It's a hell of a lot more expensive than blender, that's for sure.

  • what a pretentious slogan

so if you work with Max you are what?

    just a technician?

  • @henriqvist It doesn't say "Artists only use Modo" you dipstick. "Modo is for artists" is just a simple and true statement. It's like saying "Water is for drinking", and you replying with "Well then what am I supposed to do with this milk!?"

  • @ericspring In that case aren't all 3d apps for artists? Presonally I find the Modo UI to be horrid. If it was better and the modeling wasn't the same idiocy used in Lightwave, I might consider buying it.

  • @ericspring I agree with you, and I didn't see what henriqvist said, but according to your post it would be more like replying "Water isn't just for drinking" to someone who says "Water is for drinking", since milk is another element that had anything to do with it in the first place. (i.e.: artist->water, modo->drinking)

  • a genius

  • Is maya better?

  • Wow I didn't know this Software is so good. I'm slowly getting started with 3D stuff as a hobby, I've started with 3Ds Max. I know the other programs like Lightwave, Cinema4D,Rhino,Blender, Maya, etc. but I never knew about Modo.

but I already realized that 3D modeling is so much work, its consuming a looot of time.I'm not motivated enough to spend so much time on something I don't get money for. I need to get faster, or maybe i'm using the wrong/slow program? HELP -.-

  • @bibbed87 modeling is like drawing, its less about what tool (program) your using, and more about the skill of the user (you). The more practice you put in, the faster and better you'll get. They say it takes about 10,000 hours at your craft to become a master, so it takes the determination and motivation to get there

  • @bloodydove5718 This couldn't be more wrong, except for the practice part.

  • @greenegsnham ask any professional artist, they're going to tell you its not the tool that makes you good. Sure different programs can make modeling easier or harder, but like i said its Less about the tool. If you dont understand the basics of the craft it doesnt matter what tool or program you use, its going to come out like crap

  • looking pretty intuitive

  • Lightwave 3d is the best they made avatar and 300 in it....

  • @Mallte100 Where did you get that from, huh?

Did you work on Avatar and 300? I'm guessing you're just talking crap, because they in fact used more than a dozen different 3D packages, including modo. So next time you feel the urge to post, perhaps you should check your facts first before making a complete dick of yourself.

And learn some punctuation while you're at it. Lightwave is not the 'best they made'. :(

  • @Mallte100 Actually, a number of different software were used, including LW which is still used in many pipelines, but almost all assets are brought into Maya at one time in production, and the reason is it's a lot easier adding to Maya than other mainstream software. Modo is very powerful, its subD modeling tools are amazing and while it's true there are many similarities with LW, Modo's gone beyond in almost every respect. LW's native render is still great. Ironman 1 was fully rendered in it.

  • @fabiobit Worng (as are most comments from ignorant LW fans)

Here's a quote " We modelled in modo, animated in xsi, and rendered the Mark 1 suit in Lightwave 9.3. Where did you get the idea we used fprime?"

Note that only the Mark1 was rendered in LW. That's the one that was only shown for a short bit in the begining of the movie. You will also notice that they DID NOT render it in modo.

  • @Mallte100 if you honestly believe that then you know nothing about the way the industry works.

  • @Mallte100 300 and avatar use more maya and max than lightwave. some effects houses working on the production used lightwave but only a minority.

  • @Mallte100 More than likely they used a freelancer that used lightwave for a few small shots. The majority was done with "real" 3d software. Lightwave is dead, the prgrammers weren't even competent enough to finish "Core" and had to scrap the whole idea (after years of hype). Newtek is all about hype and has completely faild to follow through on most of their promises. About the only people using Lightwave any more are hobyists. The last SIGGRAPH was just plain sad.

  • @Mallte100 Wong! stop getting all your information from Newtek. It was used in VERY SMALL PARTS of those productions. Most of the work was done in real 3d programs.

  • Wow, 3 jealous autodesk monkeys just left free minuses.

  • @TheEZhexagon What a complete load of rubbish. It's a known fact in the 3D world that luxology/modo forums is one of the most friendly communities there is. Do you work for Autodesk?

  • MODO has the best work flow, its way faster , & has really good built in renderer

  • @JohnnyAngry85 Actually it has a terrible workflow.

  • Is that a drawing that your molding it to? How do I don that I have always just done it from looking at something out side of the computer, how do you do that can you tell us how we get a drawing to mold to inside of Modo?

  • Someone please tell me the main benefit Modo has above other 3D programs? Specifically Maya (Other than Maya's absolutely horrid user interface) or 3D's Max.

No sarcasm or anything, i'm totally serious, I am very curious about this program.

  • The artists can work with whatever they want.

  • Cinema 4d and 3ds max are for the real artists !

  • @HiroStarcraft2 ...real artists don't rely on the tools to be good.

  • Ein typisches klischee ist das technik verliebte und Naturwissenschaftler nicht kuenstlerisch begabt sind aber hier ist der gegenbeweis

  • can you animate this?? i usually see modo outputs as just images :)

  • @zhelle0990 yes you can but maya is beter for animation

  • ???

  • Are you just using the sculpting tool?

    Nice!

  • cool video. modo is great!

  • Wow cool.. this is great..

  • im impressed by how well the model deforms when your transposing it

  • Yeah man, these guys aren't n00bs! This is what became of LightWave.

    Aaaaah. Know what I'm saying.

Maya is just so convoluted, full creeping featuritis, my brain was fully repelled haha. Same with FormZ. 3D studio Max like mm dunno 'bout that.

This looks comfy, and those renders OMG the fur on that sheep?! It's got the lighting niceness of mental ray, but without the blurriness...

  • what was he using at the beginning to rough out the model of the character he made, i cant find tht tool anywhere!

  • modo is definitely a nice program, but its not so much the program, but what you are comfortable with and the hard work you put into it that makes the work great!

  • Modo looks promising. like blender :)

  • Wow, that scretching metaball-like thing is awesome! We DEFFINITELY need that in Blender! :D

  • nice 3d.

    Name song pls...

  • why'd you need vray when you have an intern renderer that is at least as good but much faster.

  • I tell you what...when vray makes a version for modo...that's when things will go all wild.

  • Uh oh... my Maya/Mudbox combo now has some serious competition.

    modo looks slick

  • modo is for aldrin...

  • It looks like larry

  • Modo looks pretty epic but im sticking to xsi untill I learn how to bake normals and model organics.

  • @xmrwaffles2

    what is Xsi???

  • well im familiar with 3d coat and zbrush, but this seems worth looking into indeed

  • teach us how you did this :)

  • can you animate with it?

  • Yes you can, and they are building on the animation parts all the time

  • From what I've seen so far, Modo is real slick. Can't wait to try it out.

  • very nice Vid by the way

  • I have Modo 302 on my computer but dont know how to use it yet...still tryin to perfect Maya.....where can I find tutorials for starters

  • Pixologic is becoming the little company that could... modo is starting to grow in interesting directions!

  • they even used this on the making of avatar

  • :) not really. One artist used it for some personal quick previews...it's not like you could say they USED it to make Avatar. I'm a big Modo fan ...I believe it works the way all things are supposed to work.

  • this thing is similar to zbrush but its just that modo seems more advanced than zbrush

  • Modo is more like a tool box where as Zbrush is a (beastly!) tool.

  • Beautiful. Can't wait until I can buy it.

  • it seems really simple and simplicity is something that all rendering programs need

  • great vid, whats the song?

  • Looks like fun!

  • wow quite an awesome display of 2d to 3d symbiosis
