Your smith sounds great man. That's exactly what I'm looking for, but I just purchased a BSR5M. Do u know the difference between a BSR5MW and a BSR5M? This will really help me out. I'm not a bass player I'm a drummer, but I just had to get a KSB.
I dont really think Ken Smith is trying to emulate, copy or reproduce alembics sound in any possible way. I think Smith basses are one of the best sounding instruments on the market. I like way more smith basses than alembic...

I know, I meant that they have a distinct sound and noone could replicate them, i wasnt insisting that ken smith was trying to reproduce the sound of the alembic.
Ken Smith does sound good, but they deffinately dont have there own sound, such as a ric, or an Alembic. But It's just personal preference, cuz i play a completely different genre of music than this.
well not trying to be an asshole, but I can tell right away you have never own any of this instruments, why? saying a smith has not a particular sound it is almost like saying a jazz bass does not have a own sound or an alembic, ric, etc... Alembic is the first brand to make high end basses!! but Smith it is probably the second, Vinnie Fodera worked on Smith basses. And I think one thing tha smith basses have its there own sound, vey special by the way, like alembic basses, very special sound!!
pues esta flat... no se a que te refieras con "su potencial" es de gustos aunque me parece suena muy bien... claro sin EQ sin ampli pero me parece que las cualidades primarias de un smith. su claridad, cuerpo y presencia estan ahi. Claro me gustaria tocar mejor... saludos

Tienes razón, los smith tienen un tono muy particular y reconocible por la mayoría de bajistas y aunque ha sido imitado (en su sonido) por varias marcas y modelos, smith siempre será smith, estoy de acuerdo contigo, aunque la verdad las cuerdas que llevabas al grabar este video, desmerece un poco la verdad. Gracias por tu comentario, sobre las cuerdas uso Ken Smith y estaban casi nuevas, pero estoy de acuerdo contigo que el sonido no fue el mejor, pero fue una grabacion directa a la computadora y no atravez de mi interface. sin EQ y totalmente Flat en los controles. I also like the yamaha TRB models, but it is a matter of taste, and feel. In my opinion there is a HUGE diference! not only in the sound, but in the hand craft of the basss, the woods and tone. Smith basses have a unique tone, Very easy to reognize in any recording or live gig, I own a TRB6PII and it is a very cool bass, but it will always be my second axe... I will never do recordings with the TRB, never. Read some reviews my friend. I think burner basses suck. very cheap bass.
bueno, para empezar, siento que no hya mucha comparacion entre uno y otro. El Smith es un bajo muy pero muy fino y todo en su construccion es totalmente perfecto por eso cuesta mas de 4000 dlls. sobre la accion de las cuerdas las mias estan muy pegadas, pero eso es cuestion de gustos. Pero los smith para mi tienen la mejor construccion que he visto y mira que he tenido varios. El marcus miller es un bajo mucho mas barato. y de menor calidad pero que suena bien, pero sin comparacion.
esta directo totalmente, normalmente uso un ampli hartke 5000, compresor dbx 166xl, y un maximizador big bottom de aphex. pero en este video lo grabe directo a la compu... saludos

MW has an extra layer of wood, its a little more high end, both are great instruments!!

Ken Smiths are nice but my 1995 Pedula Thunderbolt is also nice and sounds every bit as good as this one. Great job on playing.

Ken Smith basses are nice, I played one at a local music store and it played and sounded great.
But Alembic is still the king of all basses, noone can replicate the sound of those things.
