depends on what you mean by "real life". for one, we'll know how electroweak symmetry is broken, why the universe has matter-antimatter asymmetry, the origin of dark matter etc. if you mean by technology spin offs of these massive scientific undertakings -- it won't be obvious inventions, but large improvements in technologies already in use in modern daily life.
Don't worry it not the end of the world! The simple fact that cosmic rays of much higher energies than the LHC can produce have been bombarding the Earth, Moon and other objects in the solar system for billions of years with no such effects.
we'll get the higgs first though.. it should be around 150-200 GeV. we'll probably detect signs of supersymmetry next up on the energy scale and maybe after that we might see signatures of extra dimensions.
