  • wrecked the beautiful tone with the wah man.

  • LIVE MUSIC AT IT'S FINEST

  • I love how the band just walks away from the stage and just chills while Mike wails at the end

  • 100% in the "epic" category

  • Pearl Jam=AMAZING!!!

  • Que final tan espectacular!!!

  • @richoandisa: Thanks! These lyrics are different from all the other versions. Thanks again, I love singing to this song...so sad..

  • I was disappointed with this DVD. The way they played Black at this show was kinda weak sauce compared to any other performance I've seen of it. And the set-list wasn't really what I expected. If you ask me both DVDs are only worth EvenFlow, State, Daughter, I Am Mine, Baba and Y. Ledbetter.

  • ...simply beautiful!! Musical perfection. If you dont like this song, you dont like music!!

  • I love this version better than the cd... and of course Pearl Jam sounds better Live

  • that would be mike not matt, matt is on the drums

  • fking awesome !!!

  • Epic ending for an epic song!

  • Ahh .. the beauty of music .. and how it ((moooooves)) you !!

  • They are an awesome live band! I think if I remember correctly they got in trouble because the show went longer than MSG's curfew of midnight.

  • It's very odd seeing Eddie WITHOUT his beard now. I've become so used to it. He truly is epic beard man.

  • @donniedarkodevotte Yea not sure about Eddie all cleaned up and wearing a polo. But this is my favorite P J song.

  • This DVD kicks..........ok I'm not TOTALLY happy with the setlist for this show, but this performance kicks major ass.

PS - I really didn't like Black on this DVD

  • Eddie rules

  • @UROROTRASH - breaks my heart. Hope it has always helped you cope. x

  • That's the power of music, that many people just feeling the groove...

  • Does anybody know what effect Mike is using at 2:20

  • @sk8frys flanger

  • @warrenstud21 ...or maybe a univibe setting on the old effects box.

  • This is the reason i love pearl jam. Love.

  • Now this is music. You can't find this in today's rock.

  • Oh Yeahhhhh! Can you see them? On the porch yeah? But they don’t wave. I see them! ‘Round the front way –Yeah! And I know—and I know--- I don’t want to stay. I don’t want to stay I’d like to stay I wanna stay No-No Oh No Oh…Oh…Oh…. Oh…Yeah….
  • But they don’t wave.

I see them! ‘Round the front way! Yeah!

    And I know—that I know--- I don’t want to stay.

Wanna see them. I’d like to wish it all away.

And I tried and I called and I could’ve left a message, thought I almost did.

Tried tellin’ Dad he was worse than me.

I realized why his son’s goin’ away in a box or a bag.

  • Unsealed on a wayside letter

Said----“don’t have to ever feel this way again. Oh no..

On the wayside on a front side letter.

Said—“ that I’ll never see my brother alive again”. Oh no..

And I tried to obliterate all the more.

Had a good time --but the memory keeps-- draggin’ me down.

And I wondered ‘bout the reasons he would of said,

“He’s comin’, he’s coming home in a box or a bag.”Yeah! Can you see them? Out on the porch Yeah!

  • @staceycranfill the reason he was sent

  • Pearl Jam are amazing, brilliant song bringing tears to my eyes!! Brilliant!! Every now again you get a band that changes music..Led Zep, The Who, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam....may that list continue!

  • eddie, i love u man.

  • social distortion, awesome shirt and a amazing live preformance

  • @ibanezbass958 -,Eddie is the shit for never being a sellout.

  • OMG ....?That is so beautiful about Brett Kane...Dream On.......

  • Great song!!! I can only imagine what Jesus would do with this song!!! Never mock or underestimate what God can do, you will not win.

  • he says some thing different in every version of the song

  • @URUROTRASH

Cmon man... I was just trying to watch a Pearl Jam video and I ended up just about crying... Then I had to look up the lyrics... and it was even sadder. Peace to you man, it's rough.

  • eddie and eli manning look identical here when he has short hair

  • What song is the riff that he starts playing at 5:11 from?

  • @jayrawd yeah.. sounds a lot like bryan adams right?

  • @URUROTRASH

Such a beautiful use for this song. I am sure your fiend Brett had a great live, doing the fact he cultivated in his life, such a great friend as you URURO.

  • @URUROTRASH

Such a beautiful use for this song. I am sure your fiend Brett had a great live, doing the fact he cultivate in his life a great friend as you URURO.

  • URUROTRASH: RESPECT!! Same thing here in Holland. My best friend also died 7 years ago. I have a piece of paper on witch we wrote down the Dutch translation, both our tears are on this paper!! This is our song 4 ever!! Miss you Mitch Kalb!!

  • desmond hume anyone?

  • @peachygnr No, he looks nothing like him

  • @Jackstanford7 fuck you.

  • un freakin' believable....this is why Pearl Jam is the BEST band on the planet and I just can't stop listening to them, even after all these years....and in 4 months time I'll have the honor of seeing them again for the 3rd time!! Thank you Pearl Jam for the music....I LOVE YOU all !!

  • pearl jam is some kind of life

  • @URUROTRASH Very touching. So very sorry.

  • Fucking bad ass, wearing a Social D shirt showing respect... 2 of the best bands that have ever set foot on this earth.

    Long live PEARL JAM

  • @URUROTRASH you left me speechless

  • Ururo...cool comment. I have a very similar deal for a friend of mine from high school. I haven't done it in a LONG time. I need to get back to that. Thanks.

  • @URUROTRASH poweful stuff.

  • Is that Mel Gibson singing?

  • @danhtown1 lmao

  • These aren't even the rite lyrics but it still sounds amazin

  • @skinitback100 right lyrics?... this song has no right lyrics XD...

  • @skinitback100 he always changes the lyrics

  • My older bro got me into PJ. Our first show was in 92', at the OG BostonGarden.. we became lifelong diehards, and went on to see PJ together another 14X. These were our happiest times shared together, and this was our moment, when they closed w/ YLBddr. Arms around ech othr, we'd scream the words, w/ teary eyes. His name was Shane Roy, he was my best freind & the greatest person i'v e ever known. He died unexptdly in 2001 at 21yr., i was 20... soon after i heard this version for 1st time...

  • to hear eddie sing " it said that, i'll never.. see , my brother alive again", seared my soul...at that moment in my life these lyrics were scary similar to what was going on.."i talked to my Dad, he was worse than me, his sons coming home in a box or abag". . ( i was due for a good cry about him, and this song and these memories...) , Shane was 1 in a Mill., and i KNOW that i had the greatest older brother in the world, and wish every1 was lucky enuff to have a bro like that. We also raised ..

  • Love this song to death always makes me remember the people I've lost who've meant so much to me but I will say the best version I've heard of this was Melbourne Australia 16/11/06

  • I always love this song! I watch the live versions all the time, but I would love to find just one where Mike plays Van Halen's Dance The Night Away instead of Hendrix's Little Wing at the end.

  • Wow, I read this and was floored...two days ago. I came back to it today with it resonating in my mind. I bought this DVD years ago and my 2 boys have been raised with Pearl Jam (they are now almost 7 and 5 1/2). I got tears in my eyes when I read what you wrote...as I do now. Music has always meant more to me than others, but your words put things in a whole different light. God rest Brett's soul in peace. He's in a world hereafter - your love for him keeps his spirit alive still today.

  • Did he change the lyrics?

  • @bitulok3131 almost everytime when they are playing this song

  • Seldom have i read such an touching honest post. My heart broke reading this. I want you to know that from this day onwards i'll recall this sentiment and pray that Brett can hear it from above when we perform it. All the PJ family are with you in thoughts and in spirit. Always. If you ever need ANYTHING all you need to do is contact me. Peace and Love. Ed.

  • After all this time it still gives me chills.....

  • does anyone know the lyrics of this one?

  • band member rocking the social distortion shit ... niceee ... this concert rocked

  • @edpham22 - Mike McCready, Lead Guitar - playing an improvised ending to one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. Every note is played through him...not by him. His tone is legendary - all the people at Madison Square Garden, including his bandmates, clap on in awe. It makes me want to pick up my Les Paul and turn my Marshall up anytime I hear it...he is the most under-rated guitar player alive.

  • the one song that no one actually knows the lyrics to aha.

    soo amazing!!

  • why does he have a notebook at the end there?

  • @poofy917 I think he always has a notebook when he's on concert. He reads few things from time to time some weird some interesting some kind of sad... But he always has one.

  • @lchobil its his homework

  • I wish I could find tabs for that intro.

  • Matt at the end...and u can talk about it, so if, no, sorry. Yes I just wish to, it's hard to put in with words. The guitar is a like...like you know, there was a guy, who invented fire, the one, who invented wheel and there was Matt with this solo...

  • Eddie, the hair... I'm sorry but... the HAIR...

  • @ribbitboing ITS EDDIE Who cares about the hair?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THE BEST EVER

  • @URUROTRASH dude ur everywere lol

  • @URUROTRASH

    shut up

  • eddie is singing slightly out of tune. never heard him do that before

  • @GrungeHippie95 I think the whole recording is out of whack somehow. The guitar is also out of tune.

  • The improved guitar at the end by Matt is simply exquisite. Jesus himself would have a hard time laying that shit out there.

  • @jakebank Matt plays drums, Mike plays guitar

  • @jakebank dont you mean Mike not matt

  • @jakebank - I gave you a thumbs-up, but it's Mike McCready...not Matt. I will forgive you, because you vibe his playing. I think you missed something, though. That is a Higher Power flowing through his fingers when he plays - straight from his soul...so, if you believe in God as I do, you're hearing the sound from Heaven. Cheers!

  • @jakebank you mean mike.

  • was McCready just improvisin the ending solo?????

  • @Randomness1200 yep haha isn't that fuckin incredible

  • It just makes me think, How would Kurt Cobain look like if he was alive?, would he still be playing?

  • one of the best versions yet, thanks for the upload... btw does anyone got tab for this performance

  • Check out "It Might Get Loud" and I think you'll be left with a new found respect for the Edge. The man is a player. Comparing bands/singers/guitar players is child's play...if you dig the music, then who gives a fuck beyond that? It's not a pennant chase. Chrissakes Holden!

  • If you love music and like PJ AT ALL I highly recommend seeing them live. They're passionate, dedicated, fun, professional and amazing.

  • @keisterbunny1 mike McCready....and I agree

  • Maybe this version of Yellow Ledbetter will be on ' Live on Ten Legs '.

    I wish it'd couse I love it

  • U2 sucks PJ all day

  • Pearl Jam and the word greatness. One in the same.

  • Some Individuals Are Destined To Hold Others In The Palm Of Their Hand. The Lead Guitar Player (His Name Escapes Me) Is One Of Them.

  • The Day Eddie Vedder dies is the day music loses all meaning besides Sex and Whores and 13 year old boys fallin in love with the mirror

  • Led Zeppelin owned MSG in the 70s, its now in the pocket of Pearl Jam!! Fuckin amazing show!! The 2 greatest bands ever in mho!

  • My wife and I traveled from Chicago to this show. It was birthday present, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

  • @ephatcher60018 you should love your wife for the rest of your life then... for reals..

  • Who's the old guy with the long hair?

  • @Ataronumb Thats Booom Gaspar, he joined the band for the makin of Riot Act in '02 and has been touring with them ever since

  • @Ataronumb Kenneth "Boom" Gaspar, he's in Pearl Jam since 2002.

  • The only band able to fill the void left by Led Zeppelin!! Fucking awesome!

  • AWESOME PERFORMANCE. THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER WORDS!

  • untouchable performance! U should read up on the meaning of the song and the reason for the guitar solo. Thumbs up!!!!!

  • @TheNixtunes

do you have a link for that .. inspiration for any art is something I like getting my head around

  • guitar solo !! ;)

  • Mike motherfucking McCreedy!

  • The person who disliked this song must not have listened to the guitar solo at the end.

  • @jakebank that person is not normal

  • @jakebank That person must not have a brain period! LOL

  • @jakebank

I totally agree with you. Mike McCreedy is fucking incredible. I've seen lots of big bands play live and he puts lots of guitarists to shame.

  • a tope!!!

  • the best version of yellow ledbetter in my opinion

  • @ApostastyUK maybe cuase he poored his heart and voice out for the croud all night tell this song...and then he still sounds fricken awesome

  • roberto - you're a fucking moron

  • All I hear is Jimi Hendrix

  • @skylineiiigtr the guitars sound a LOT like hendrix's live version of Angel . .but its still an awesome song

  • @wonsworld the guitar solo is a tribute to hendrix. good call wonsworld. Nice guess!

  • the sound great but they look so much better with longer hair !

  • One person dislike this beatiful song. He is not human.

  • 51,000 views and one vote down. Who was the douchebag that voted this down?

  • lol he changes the lyrics everytime he plays it live.

  • Eddie con el pelo corto y con un polo!!!

Casi parece buen chico y todo

  • What happened to his voice here?

  • i was there too... the show was unreal amazing guitar especially on this song

  • I love how, at the outro, stone looks at mike and thinks like 'fuck, that guy is pretty amazing!'(around 5:00)

  • Ag I used to have this DVD. I lost it a few years ago. What was the song where the stage almost collapsed or something? I can't really remember ha ha.

  • No offense U2 fans, but they cannot hold a Candle to PJ live!...........Or period for that matter. Eddie Vedder is the greatest singer/songwriter of our generation and Mike McCready maybe the greatest guitar player "Alive".....pun implied.

  • That intro is awesome!!!!

  • Hands down best version of this song ever....

  • excellent video i absolutelly love pearl jam im gonna go and see them this monday here in kansas city

  • ed, I love ya man, and u got what u wanted. The DEMS run the show now, so please just shut up about politics and sing!

  • corre forest corre!!!

  • it really seems like he was trying to pronunceate(excuse the spelling) the words more so you could get the message of the song. being the first time in nyc after 9/11 and the war being underway,

  • vedder where did the hair go man lol

  • It is abeautiful guitar tone. Mike McCready wrote the music as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix hence the style. As for Eddie's singing, he has always changed the lyrics for this song and it hardly is ever sang the same way. Not to mention he was pretty drunk at this time of the concert. Cheers to you Ed, Mike, Stone, Jeff and Boom!!

  • Sorry...can't forget to say cheers to Matt behind all of the greatness

  • Hey verb65, Section 328 row 1 seat 10. You need a copy of my ticket stub sent to you for your review??? What gives? And RabidGoose, this was Pearl Jam's first show at MSG after 9/11.

  • this is real music, hell with u little pop music losers. u know who are too

  • Great version...LOVE the wah in the solo

  • i get goosebumps watching this performance.

  • uufff de puta madre ! genial

  • I was at this show!!!! Let me tell you, I don't think one person left the concert. This was the 1st show at MSG after 9/11, and Eddie did not want to get off stage. It really was a mind blowing experience.

  • Bullshit u were not there. People love to talk shit. Besides it would not be mindblowing. That term is used way to much and loosely. They are just men too. They wipe there ass just like everybody else. Get a life loser.

  • had a bad day?

  • this defintely wasn't the first show at MSG since 9/11. This show was in 2003.

  • no it was in 17 AD at the top of mount olympus. i played the harp, i should know.

  • Comment removed

  • @RabidGoose It wasn't the first show after 9/11 but it was Pearl Jam's first trip back to NY since 9/11

  • i love how once the recognizable notes of the song begin, the crowd goes wild :]

  • just awesome is all i can say, i play guitar too and its one of my fav songs

  • Atrocious vibrato.

  • The lyrics of this song are really a mistery xD

  • i have this show on DVD, love it!

  • I get minus three for asking for tablature? You guys are fucking pricks.

  • The guitar solo at the end rocks.

What a way to end a show!!

  • favorite band

  • there bringing home his son home in a box or a bag!changed the words to reflect the time ,love vedder..thanks george w bush for all the wasted lives.someday they will be zipping the bag up on you .
