I saw an offer for a job doing this. I saw people talking about taking off drive axles? Could you shed light on this for me? The mileage pay is good but the whole 50-60 dollars risking life or limbs did not sound like a deal.
@tonys531 Hello Tony, and thanks for the question. Taking off drive axles is something that is done in the shop during truck decking. The axles have to be removed in order to disable the transmission gears/drive shaft. We the drivers that deliver these units INSTALL the axles. This job is only as dangerous as you make it. You just HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.
@TheChristiantrucker thank you very much. YES, I HATE doing these alone, ESPECIALLY with a manual hoist. With an electric hoist, I when am ready to uncouple, I raise the truck until the truck in front of it starts to come off of the ground, then ever-so-gently place it down a LITTLE, then pull the lead foward. I like wreckers as well, but sometimes they act like they dont want to pick the truck up high like I want it. But I need to be certain that oil pan does NOT get crushed. HAPPY TRAILS..
