  • Wonderful!

  • My computer could write better music than this.

  • The problem with modern "classical music" like this is you can't tell if they're tuning or if they're playing the piece. I agree with one of the comments below- classical musicians do get this cringe when hearing stuff like this. I'm sure there is some logic to this, but as far as any normal classical music goes, this sounds like it died with its atonal melody. Hell, I can't tell if this even has a melody. Brb, flushing my brain out of this with Tchaikovsky.

  • From whom are the paintings?

  • Currently available is the 1978 recording, Fifty Years Of American Music 1919-1969 by Henry Cowell, Arthur Shepherd, Roy Harris, Gunther Schuller, and Andrew Imbrie. It contains a very sharp version of the Schuller #2 by the now defunct Emerson String Quartet.

  • The problem with most people, is that they don't REALLY listen to the music. This piece makes a lot of sense. If you want to listen to some mindless music that requires no thinking abilities at all, listen to Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber. Yea, Baby Baby:)

  • @peppersax It's almost as if people are just listening to the sound of themselves listening to it.

  • I listened to this piece about 30 years ago (?) with my wife and a friend. We were completely bemused by the apparently aimless series of cacophonous sounds. I know that there is more to it than that; but my observation is -- it is a near tragedy that classical music lovers have my reaction when confronted with this kind of music. The tragedy is that such a wide gulf had formed between the composers and their public. And so, is that really art?

  • Dude, this recording sounds commercial level.

Anyways, very nice. However, jazz this ain't remotely. Where did this come from?

  • who are the paintings from?

  • @c3v3b that is the work of franz kline, great abstract expressionist. supported himself at one point making quick sketches of barroom patrons for a few $ (or drinks?). check out his later work in color.

  • Great post..Much appreciated..A severly under-rated composer..I'd love to hear a recording of his 'Symphony' if you had it to post..I think it was part of the American Composer Series..It came coupled with his Quartet for Double-Basses.
