  • Who sells an N scale model of Miss Katy?

  • @MMODoubter: I think Kato sells them.

  • I love usa

  • boy, when they aren't pulling cars...they sure can get moving can't they?

  • wow wow awesome my favorites the katy and cnw no more and ferromex good video grettings from mexico ¡¡¡¡¡5

  • hello friend great shot of the MKT by the way which is the mark of the horn that comes running in 1988?

  • Congratulations! Your video is really good: I admire your persistence in chasing her!

I have ALL 6 heritage units in HO scale; in my opinion, MTH did a very good job

    creating them.

  • i am so getting this loco 4 my ho scale train set

  • my athearn genesis sd70ace sounds just like katy on start up.

  • I have this loco for MS Train simulator

  • Why did they run 1988 light down the Coast?

  • those look like gp's in the backround

  • they should like make a herritage loco with like a tyedye paint job?.. hahah look badass i think

  • eine wundervolle lok in wundervollem ambiente

    thanks

  • I like the paint sceme!

  • Union Pacific's second #1988, a General Motors product done in Missouri-Kansas-Texas colors, is a worthy successor to the first, a heavy 2-8-2 steamer (Class MK-1) built by Baldwin in 1912.

  • Miss Katy is the best looking!

  • miss katy sure is speedy my friend

  • una belleza es miss katy I LOVE UNION PACIFIC

  • Awesome! They sure as hell didnt waste anytime going through teh siding!

  • Nice catch and chase!!

  • Cool this video ... especially the locomotive

  • mkt will always shine up sucks

  • I seen a MKT gondola today with the words Mortar Sand on the side.

  • That air start is pretty slick.

  • sedaliahobby dot c likes this

  • the N&E had a ex MKT i believe it was the 5340 nice vid.

  • awesome video dude this fucken katy train is awesome as hell!

  • Easily the sexiest looking Heritage Unit!!!

  • This unit looks like a Russian villians train from a James Bond movie. I keep waiting for 007 to jump out and derail the thing.

  • @theUPman100: it was leading when it was running solo, and when it was pulling the baretables!

  • My bad!

  • GOOD VIDEO

  • they are airing out the john i see

  • i love the private car, id love to be one who owns one and just gets pulled around the country in it for a a few grand

  • It strikes me as weird when, say at 3:45, you see it up in high throttle while only moving itself (and not exactly sling-shotting like I'd expect) and yet it pulls that big long train in later scenes with an almost contradictory ease... It's almost as if it had direct drive or something. I'm not saying it defies the laws of physics...maybe I'm the only one, but it seems strange.

  • heritage units are wesome!!

  • Id love to see Conrail repaint a few of the SD80Mac as heritage units in the traditional blue. I know that I'm dating myself but it would be welcome to see a few of the NS SD70s repainted with Penn Central colors. The possibilty of a few CSX SD80 MACs in Chessie System cat paint would also be welcome.

  • Have you seen all 6?????

  • I've seen all 6, but don't have a video of the 1982 yet. I also have not seen the 4141.

  • @cchan006 ive seen 1982 shes got a beast K5LLA

  • This is a great video. That is so cool to see how fast an SD70ACe can accelerate.

  • excellent work!

  • Why do the SD 70 series locomotives like to inch forward on startup? I've noticed that before I live in Canada an was watching the crew Start up an SD 75I and it inched forward as well. I was just wonder what causes that is all. any input will be appreciated thanks!

  • This is truly and awesome rail fan video. Just LOOK at that thing accelerate. I couldn't believe how many cars it was hauling by itself....even if they were empty. This is one of the best rail fan videos I've seen.

  • Great loco!

  • Wonder if her horn is still that nicely tuned, and she'll be back in Cali on Friday

  • Yes it is I caught it in San Marcos Tx I have a video of it leading SAFW on the Austin Sub

  • she looks wonderful!! I have yet to see any of the heritage units on the UP's Salina Sub between Denver, and Kansas City

  • Great video! Gotta love KATY.

  • Miss Katy is on the OLS Special at Des Moines Iowa paired up with WP 1983 and the B unit 963. She is a beauty! UP 1982 and the Olympic units are on a Z train to L.A. Cali. Great video!

  • Nice locomotive! It's a shame they put her in the back. No model train companies did a very good job replicating her.

  • If you watch the rest of the video, Miss Katy is on the point.

  • I know I did. I have a bad habit of posting comments too early.

  • Awsome catch , I sure would like to see The Katy someday.

  • This is Power

  • Man, I love it!

    Sweet video

  • great great catch!

  • Amazing the sound of the engine at the time of accelerating.

  • Great looking engine. CNRR bought them and I hope one comes here.

  • Hey when did this go down the coast sub. like that? I was down in SLO on te 7th and 8th. I'm guessing it was long gone by then. And do you know where the empty baretables went. Were they left north of Paso Robles or in SLO or farther south? BTW Great video. 5 and a fav.

  • You missed Miss Katy by a week. It followed Amtrak #11 down the coast, including through SLO. Only UP knows where the baretables went for sure, but from what I heard, the 91 well cars in the video did not stay anywhere on the Coast Sub.

  • Really there are baretables and 3 auto cars on a siding north of Paso Robles. They have been there for a very long time. And there are now baretables stationed at SLO on the main track 2. They have been there for about 3-4 weeks or so.

  • HAHA! a ten car AOAHO haha!

  • Love that air start! Sounds just like the M-636 & C-630's that used compressed air to start.

  • She sure isn't pulling much of a train. nice videos

  • shame they did not put the katy on front. i have wanted to see that one for awile. i was born in 88

  • Man she's got some snot to her...

  • Send back to Arkansas on the ILBMN thank you.

  • I've always been fascinated by trains, from as a kid to now as a big kid...but I don't understand all the terminology. What is a highball? What are those flat cars for that looked like they are empty?

  • Before lighted signals, raising a ball on a mast indicated clear to proceed, hence the term "highball". Miss Katy was pulling empty well cars. When loaded, they carry containers, often stacked in two, hence they are called doublestacks.

  • Awesome, thanks for the info, I never knew what a highball was or had ever heard the term before now, I thought maybe it had something to do with speed.

  • Nice Video!! Sweet start up!!

  • That was Fantastic.

  • OMG dude I saw the very same train on Saturday!!!

  • Great shot at the end!

  • Great UP1988 video Charles! Glad some of my pre-ICLBR train move info could be of use for the chase Sunday. Looks like waking up early on a sunny Cali winter day paid off.

Love the "beep-beep-beep" start-up poof sequence there at Watsonville.

  • Thanks, Ryan, for providing local railfans with timely information, which definitely paid off for me Sunday.

  • Pretty stupid of me to not come catch this, great shots Charles. You catch Brian in the BMW at all?

  • I didn't see Brian in Watsonville, Castroville, or Soledad.

  • this video is amazing! how did you know it came out to california?

  • We got local railfans who are very well informed, like espeeboy who posted a comment below.

  • i saw it at the cleaning place in oakland

  • WOW!! That engine sounds amazing, especially when it accelerated out of Watsonville!

  • Yeah, the SD70ACe's sound pretty sweet.

  • why is the engine all alone though?

  • Because it wants to be all alone lol

  • great videos, always have some of the best on here

  • great video. maybe i will catch a KATY here in the east one day.

  • good video.the KATY and the C&NW heritage SD70ACes are my favs.

  • Damn nice footage. I missed her when she supposedly came down through the canyon. I guess it was late at night, seeing as how she left Portola around 5pm. Not sure when it was that she came through though.

  • O my freaking gawd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shot vid of this thing when it lead a HOT UP Z train through the Nevada desert and the vid is here on my youtube account!!!!!! Dang nice to see the KATY again!

  • Nice coverage of the Katy unit!

  • Awesome video 5*****
