so i tried to tell my mom about how much this song gives me the chills...and she didnt get it. i guess its cuz im a musician and she isnt...but i love this piece. it makes me cry because it is so beautiful <3
This song is great, were using it in our marching show this year and just listening to it in its original form is just inspiring and powerful and beautiful
Frank Ticheli, I don't know what to say. Can we please coin new words just for the sake of describing his works? Reply with suggested words, PLease. Oh, and, Ticheli: He's not like a boss, because he is the boss :D
@IsothosestrasZephyr Really really fun? This is my favourite concert band piece, but as an oboist, reading your comment makes me not want to play it just yet LOL
@RaiMidori Oh no worries I totally butchered it. The 2 high Bs in the beginning of the piece and the F sharp? Completely off tune, I was mortified with embarrassment.
Sing. Be. Live. See. This dark stormy hour, the wind it stirs. The scorched earth cries out in vain. In vain. Oh war and power, you blind and blur. The torn heart cries out in pain. In pain. But music and singing have been my refuge. And music and singing shall be my light. A light of song, shining strong. Alelluia! Alelluia. Through darkness and pain and strife, I'll sing. I'll be. see. Peace. Peace.
These are my favorite lyrics. When I sing this song, I know that music shall be my sanctuary
I am a member of the East Henderson Hightower School Band in Hendersonville NC, This year for a concert piece we played Sanctuary! This song is amazing with beautiful cords all throe out the piece, my favorite section is the climax ween me ( as a second chair trumpet player) got to play the melody!!!!! It was an incredible felling! If anyone wants to play this piece I highly recommend it to anyone!
I have actually met, and played with this man. He came to our high school in California(Cathedral City High School) after our teacher asked him to come to give us comments and play though his piece Vesuvius. It was a very interesting experience. He is a very talented man. He gave me advice on to play this one Tom-tom rhythm "Drink all the pink lemonade, drink all the tasty watermelon wine", Ill never forget that. Have his signature on my perc part(: If you want to see more:
I hear John Williams influence (or maybe not even necessarily John Williams, but an older composer) when the winds come in at the beginning.... It reminds me of a peaceful starry night scene from E.T.
wow. amazing song. hard to believe this is the same guy that wrote "the tyger" (if you haven't heard it, i bet its over there => in the suggestions...now there's a "messed-up" piece for a nice contrast ;)
Man, I'm the biggest band geek there is, but the Earth Song here in no way compares to the choral version. Although this is quite a good recording. :D
Thanks for uploading all of these great pieces, by the way.
@concertbandland Frank wrote earth song after sanctuary as an extension of sanctuary in a new form, a Chorale! and it is absolutely wonderful in every way possible!
Oh thank god i was right, i was listening to this song after listening to Earth Song for like 30min on repeat & i heard that part & was like "W-wait what? *checks the title again*
Beautiful piece. Beautiful performance.

@IsothosestrasZephyr Oh, ouch! High Bs aren't fun no matter what, least of all in a very naked piece like this one...
I can imagine playing this piece would be stressful for all the musicians! It's so gorgeous though...
