@lovesgibson they are trying to see how the airflow over the cars surface. the air if passes smoothly over the car makes for good aerodynamics. it will make the car more quieter, fuel efficient (less drag), and over all more comfortable. the more air you hit. the harder it is on the engine and it has to work harder which consumes more fuel. air friction also causes unwanted noise while passing through some part of the car. the engineers test these things in the wind tunnel and sort these things.

@lovesgibson oh and they use these smoke creating machine for guidance, they can't see the air virtually just like that. so they use smoke to see how the airflow behaves. you want smoother airflow for best results.

After an hour or two your neck is sore from having to tilt your head forward to see out the window. Yes, you are right I dont own one. But if they make some headroom in the car I might get one.

@mayhemSWG I am average height, not unusually tall. A very tall person would find this car impossible to live with. Recommending a SUV to someone who wants a coupe is not a solution. Just make the roof a few centemeters taller and reconsider how you have made the car so difficult to get and out of with the framless windows, especially when you are sitting inside and tilt your head to the side, for example if the car hits a bump, and then you would have a perfect car

I really wish MB hadn't discontinued the cylinder shut-off system. This was standard on the 2000-2003 S-600 and optional on the 2000-2003 S-500. In the city at low loads, and on the highway when cruising or any other time when all 8 or 12 cylinders weren't needed, this system would dis-activate them and re-activate when full power was needed.

Truly, I don't think many customers opted for this system. Think about it, if you can afford a S-500 or S-600 fuel milage is not a real concern for you. I just plain liked the system as a way a saving gas, since a majority of my trips are on back roads and highway cruising.

The HEMI use a MDS (Multiple Displacement System) very similar if not the same technology MB use to use on their S-Class. I just wanted know their rationale for no longer providing this technology to MB customer, but continue to provide it for Dodge, Chyrs, Jeep products. I mean you can get this system on the "Charger" but not the S-600. What's up with that?

I think that the smoke would basically flow around ANY car just the same as this. Further, why is the car actually driving? It's in a wind tunnel. Driving it doesn't matter. Another thing, why didn't he ever hold the smoke DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE GRILLE?

The car was running so the wheels would be turning at a similar rate they would be at wind tunnel speed. This was so they could show the air around the wheels/wheel well.

Hi, yes there must be a strategy...is true...but desinging a car is an expensive and labourios process, it takes lots of time and man hours of work to get it done...But there are lots of videos and date because in europe the car in on sale! A friend of mine order one....the delivery date is june....in america its a 2010 model but in europe is on market faster.
