I am a Relative of Phil and a Friend of Kevins. I want to thank all the well wishers and I want to especially thank all the Rescue Personal who responded. To clear things up, Rescue was there SUPER Fast...but it made no difference. They were gone from the trauma of the crash and nothing could be done. My unerstanding was there was not a previous problem with the canopy, it simply did not hold up as it should have. It was a horrible accident, no blame.
I dont think there are any videos of the crash... and if there were any... i would not put any up, or discuss it. It was a terrible event and personally i dont like to crash videos of speedboats. Too bad for the boat, that boat was a beauty, and I saw it come into Manhasset Bay a few times.
New news thats coming out is as follows: The boat had an issue with its passenger windshield prior to the race, not sure what that means but they believe it was not secured properly since the boat was missing the windshield when it was uprighted. Secondly the men were most likely killed instantly by the impact since the boat landed on its roof partially caving the capsule in and the force of the water was what killed them. There was nothing that could be done by the rescuers to save them..RIP
May they rest in peace. I saw rescue workers as they were attempting to rescusitate one of the victims and though it's no consolation, I am sure they did everything they could. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family and loved ones. =( It was a horrible tragedy.
Was part of the rescue operation, would like to say RIP to both of you guys, very unfortunate what happened. As for the mixed story's rescuers were on seen in seconds by air and sea but the force of the impact did them both in as the capsule did not hold up.
no actually it wasnt the rescuers fault the throttle man died from a broken neck from impact and the driver dies from a massive heart attack. let them both rest in piece
Phil was a wonderful caring and kind person. I worked with him for many years in New Jersey and am shocked and saddened by his passing.
My deepest condolences to the entire family.

Im pretty sure this boat just crashed, 8/24 at the battle on the bay in Patchogue.

Confirmed both drivers killed. Rescue could not get them out fast enough. Sad end to a great day on the bay.
