  • Geez, heaven knows any candidate that stands-up to the Military-Industrial-Complex as McGovern did is bound to lose .. or as president be assassinated.

  • Love watching demos and reps tear each other apart as if they really know what's going on

  • what the hell. who would vote for some one with this ad with the exception of a hippy pacifist. coincidentally those are the only ppl who voted for him so i guess all went as planned.

  • @Willredd94 did you watch the ad? Its an ad for Nixon and against McGovern. I doubt anyone who would identify as a hippy voted for Nixon.

  • funny how Nixon was the one who screwed the troops

  • A highly effective ad for the height of the Cold War.

  • Mcgovern's Defense Plan was to slash Defense Spending and raise taxes and lost 49 states

  • "Democrats for Nixon"

Another proud moment for the Democrats.

  • McGovern was a joke. Why anyone thought he had a chance is beyond me.

  • @1RedshirtXLG Because of idiots like you is why this country is in the shitter. McGovern would've been a MUCH better president than Dick Nixon.

  • @Beardmania George McGovern:

    "Less Credibility,

    Weak on Foreign Policy"

What a terrific campaign slogan for him!

  • Go Nixon we do need a strong nation

  • What a Big Easy Target Sen McGovern was for President Nixon.

  • Nixon did, in a sense, get us out of Vietnam; however we actually left under the Ford administration. Nixon constantly claimed to have a "secret plan" to get out. However, more than half of all American casualties occurred during Nixons' rule, not to mention huge numbers of both North and South Vietnamese. The greatest victim of the conflict was truth. McNamara said the US thought it was fighting international Communisim and NVA thought they were fighting colonialists. We both were wrong.

  • In a meeting with then Attorney General John Mitchell, G. Gordon Liddy presented a plan for infiltration and manipulation of the Democratic Convention and primaries. Check "All the Presidents' Men"; if you don't believe Woodward and Bernstein, you are in good company no one else did at the time, they were later proven to be absolutely accurate. Watergate was not just politics; it was the most insidious usurption of the Constitution and literally treason.

  • Thank God McGovern only got 39% and lost 49 states. Can you imagine how weak we would have been with defense cuts like that in 1972? He was caving to the anti war protesters that thought we shouldn't have much of a defense. And this was when the Soviets were strongest!

  • Yeah we needed a massive military considering how many wars we fought from 1972 to 1991.

  • I would have voted for Nixon back then, though I think the nation would have been much better off if he had won in 1960.

  • You're right no Bay of Pigs and Vietnam fiasco

  • You are crazy.

  • Why? Because I don't agree with you? That attitude is exactly why this nation is such bad shape - no one can respect each other's opinions.

  • You don't have to agree with me. However, there are certain undeniable truths. One truth is that Nixon was not mentally fit for the presidency. Psychoanalyst Dr. David Abrahamsen described Nixon as a man torn by inner conflict, lonely, hypersensitive, narcissistic, suspicious, and secretive.

And just look at Watergate. Their first plan was to kidnap key Democrats, drug them, and photograph them with prostitutes! In addition to watching too much M.A.S.H. (1970), Nixon was 100% loony.

  • What are you talking about? Kidnap and drug them? That's the craziest thjing I've heard, and I don't even need to explain how that's a load of tripe.

All anyone ever thinks about anymore is Watergate. If it weren't for that, Nixon would be looked back on as one of the greatest presidents we've had. No one ever cares to remember that he started pulling our troops out of Vietnam or that his foreign policy was one of the best there's been.

It's all just spite for the Republican party.

  • "I don't even need to explain how that's a load of tripe."

It's the truth. That's why I would never put anything past the Republican Party. I learned that at OSU thank you very much. OSU does not teach its students lies. Also, Nixon was too slow to pull out of Vietnam. Invading Cambodia was awful. A friend of my family lost his leg in that stupid campaign. But I do have to give the man credit for doing good in terms of foreign policy.

  • "...I would never put anything past the Republican Party"

Oh really? That really just makes you closed minded and stuffy. Blaming politicians' mistakes on the whole party and making enemies out of your fellow citizens just because they choose to vote differently from you? It's that attitude and people like you that are tearing this country down.

  • That really doesn't convince me of anything. You probably either heard an exaggerated story or are exaggerating it yourself. I've done plenty of research in my day, and I have never heard anything like that. Everyone pulls the whole "he took too long" card without ever giving him credit for actually doing it, and he definitely couldn't have just pulled us out at the drop of a hat. The situation was dire and not his fault. Who was it that sent us in in the first place? Oh yeah, KENNEDY

  • The kidnap plot was real. Denile is not only a river in Egypt. And Kennedy was not the first president to get us involved in Vietnam. It was Eisenhower.

November 1, 1955 - Dwight D. Eisenhower deploys Military Assistance Advisory Group to train the South Vietnam Army. This marks the official beginning American involvement in the war as recognized by the Memorial.

Every president from Eisenhower to Nixon, whether Republican or Democrat, made awful decisions dealing with Vietnam.

  • Okay, yeah. Every one did make bad decisions. Vietnam was bad. Yeah. And now it's over - we came out. Who exactly do we have to thank for that? Yeah, NIXON. Whine and complain all you want about him "taking too long", but it was he who took us out, and if it were a democratic president who did so, I bet you'd give him the credit. All you can say is that he took too long with it, but why can't you just give him credit for taking us out? Vietnam was Nixon's inheritance, not his fault.

  • If you can show me some research saying that kidnap plot was real, then I'll believe you. I have never heard of any such thing, and I can't help being skeptical. However, even if it were true, that's just politicians in general. You act like Nixon's the only one who is dishonest. They all lie, etc., because that's just what it takes to get involved in politics. It's not just one party or the other, it's everyone involved in the bloody stuff.

  • Who in the fuck would need 16 aircraft carriers!?

  • woulda voted for that guy!
