  • This shows why Janick should play the intro 2 Minutes To Midnight, he wrote the riff back in 1980!

  • DIO-like vocals. YEAH

  • Woah, this riff is reallt used in a lot of songs =P

  • @rkrokberg Oh yeah, good stuff gets recycled all the time. Ever heard the killer intro to Diamond Head's song Am I Evil? They lifted it straight from a band called Andromeda.

  • @karlmoles65 actually the intro of Am I Evil, is classical music...from Gustav Holst's "Planets"

  • @Hellenicwarrior84 Correct, but not quite in this form. Go listen to Andromeda's "Return To Sanity" That was the first Rock/Metal interpretation. That was all I was saying.

  • @Hellenicwarrior84 The first Rock/Metal interpretation that I know of I should have said.

  • Deep Purple meets NWOBHM

  • @heavierthanmetal0 Good description.

  • this song was released 84 years if memory serves me that is was kidnapped wild they released the album under the name of the glass hotel in 1981 and the song was exactly the same ... who wants to hear can look under : DIVLJE JAGODE - STAKLENI HOTEL :))

  • @boyyan82 Nah this is from 1980 actually.

  • Karlmoles, Janick may not be as original as Blackmore, but he is very good. And he would have been less destructive to Deep Purple than Bolin was :-)

  • @Vodkaboy02 Purple was going down no matter who was at Guitar. And sure Janick is pretty awesome.

  • @Vodkaboy02 The MOST destructive in Purple was Blackmore, for sure !

  • @beblx Hey Honey BLACKMORE IS DEEP PURPLE, without him PURPLE is only a big SHADOW,thank the MAN IN BLACK , Deep Purple is the BIGGER ROCK BAND EVER,led zeppelin MY ASS.Blackmore is the best rock guitar EVER BY FAR .Janick is only a good guitar player that he play in IRON MAIDEN with another two, BLACKMORE allways ply by hiself capishi /

  • This song is like 2 minutes to midnight..

  • @VANILLOE ORLY?

  • @VANILLOE

But it was a few yearls before !

  • @VANILLOE so is praying mantis song - thirty pieces of silver

  • Fernie Rod relies on me he becomes my uncle 247

  • Another song similar to Maiden's version but in opposite order with the same groove riff is Armored Saint's Can U Deliver, released in October 1984.

  • 2 Minutes is certainly very similar, but it is not quite the same. It is heavier and slightly different, with a very, very similar groove. Many musicians get ideas from others this way and metalize the riffs more. Some do it subconsciously, and some flat out rip others off. A guy said a ways back in this thread that he has accidentally or subconsciously came up with a riff that was stuck in his head from the past, and I totally agree that happens.

  • I like Jannick but certainly don't think he's nearly as good as Blackmore, Morse, or Bolin.

  • Deep Purple influenced band, Gers could have easily replaced Blackmore in Purple, certainly the best guitarist in Iron Maiden.

  • Another Swords and Tequila

  • A great song

  • @Wehategod Indeed!

  • 2 mintues to midnight - Iron Maiden

copurse of the pharaos - mercyful fate

    welcome to hell - Venom

All are the same that this song

  • @mastersasori08 And "Shut up and Stand"- Dio

  • @sethsalahadin You mean 'Stand up and shout'?

  • @dm15t lol yes sorry for the massacre ^^ And didn't remember the name, just it existes

  • this song is great the sound like that 2 minutes to midnight , yeah janick gers is a god

  • This is more like RIding with the angles by Samson.

  • janick gers wrote this song

  • It is said that Janick Gers acctually wrote this song :/

  • @kirecorp yes its janick !!

  • Yeah assholes!

    White Spirit was first... 1980

  • Janick even said in the Remaster of this album in the sleeve notes that Maiden Ripped it off but he was ok with it :L :) u

  • I know for a fact that 2 minutes to midnight was stolen off White Spirit

  • these, axis, son of a bitch, moulin rouge, limelight, eric bell band ,just a few to mention played the thornaby cons teesside possible the start of the nwobhm

  • pure fuckin´heavy metal...!

  • @dereinzigwahreaff That's for sure! \\m//

  • great times of the NWOBHM . A time without Internet and download . Big pleasure when we found a unknown vinyl record like that and after the first listen : Waow !!

  • @demonsgate66 I remember those times too, it was awesome!

  • I think both Songs...2 Minutes to midnight and Midnight chaser are influenced by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow !!!

    UP THE IRONS !

  • @baldiman75 That's very possible, even probable.

  • yeah all those are either rip offs of Welcome to hell by Venom, or just something else, cause that riff is so simple you can hardly call it ripped off

  • Who cares who made the riff and who did what first.

The song kicks ass, end of story.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow A F-ing Men!

  • This song is dating from 1980 a long time before the release of 2 minutes To Midnight !!!

  • @beblx Exactly

  • I read an interview in which Janick said that he played this to Steve, and Steve was very surprised by the similarity. Janick doesn't think that Adrian deliberately stole the riff, more likely he heard it in a pub somewhere, and then played something similar a few years down the line, no doubt forgetting that this song even existed.

  • @PurestSpirit As a songwriter myself, stuff like that really does occur...you hear a song somewhere, you forget about it, you end up writing a riff that's very similar, then years later you hear the song again and you feel like a fucktard. It's happened to me more than a few times.

  • hauhuahuahuahuahuhuaahuahu 2 minutes to midnight!!!!! puro hhehehehe é legal descobrir essas coisas!!!

  • if highway star and two minutes to midnight had sex the retarded baby would sound like midnight chaser

  • And Venom-Welcome to hell, same intro riff...lotta songs with this riff

  • it's maybe a coincidence...but i'm not so shure..the riff is the same.i'll continue to search and if i'll find something interesting i'll tell you.however great band!i've bought this cd from uk (i'm italian) but i'd like to have the LP one....it's hard to find and it's expencive xD

  • well...2 minutes to midnight was relased in 1984(8/06/1984 powerslave)....janick was not already maiden's guitar player,ha arrived in 1989!i know that janick have been in contact with steve since 1986,so i still cannot understand how midnight chaser is so similar to 2 minutes to midnight...and your answer didn't satisfy me xD

  • @necrodave666 I have no idea why the sound similar, has anyone ever considered it's maybe a coincidence?

  • @necrodave666 well you2 minutes is not a very original song xD

  • Steve Used to listen to White Spirit?

    that all i got

  • does someone can explain me why mnchaser is so fucking similar to 2 minutes to midnight??I really would like to understand why!if someone knows the reason, please write me xD

  • @necrodave666 cause stuff happens?, cause Janick Gers later went on to Maiden?

  • guess: whrs is Janick Gers...

  • @faustoj26a In Iron Maiden?

  • @karlmoles65 jejejje this is the first band janick gers play..dont ya know?

  • @faustoj26a Gee. You think?

  • @karlmoles65 yes i got double cd album....nice band, and nice upload mate!

  • @faustoj26a Thank You!

  • /watch?v=tRHWx1bpVPo

  • @JaskioJaskio Whatever You were trying to link it epic failed.

  • I love this!!!! And I know my favorite band Megadeth and favorite Guitarist Dave Mustaine had to have been influenced by this as much as other NWOBHM!!! LONG LIVE METAL!

  • Thanks!

    \m/

  • its two minutes to midnight

  • If u have no idea STFU! This came 1980 out, 2 minutes to midnight 4 years later! And give up this glorious nick, you don't deserve to have "Halford" in your nick, because u have no idea of NWOBHM!!!

  • Agree with Janick`s influences, but I had no thought of gillan/blackmore/purple when i wrote the lyrics. There was only one band in my mind that I followed - the Beast that is Judas Priest. Admire Rob`s lyrics enourmously.

  • Your Bruce Ruff?

KILLER!! Your a hell of a singer Dude. Love the band!

    So Priest was on influence?

  • Hey man im 16 but I know cool metal when I hear it and you guys definetely had it. I'm a huge priest fan too saw them in August blew me away man halfords still nailing it the plce went nuts at the end of Victim of Changes

  • Leonardo and karmoles65................This song was released in 1980, 4 years prior the to Iron Maiden hit .. I would say the riff has been lifted from Burn/Highwaystar....so I agree with christoskoulis1 .. I saw this band support Gillan and Im sure Janic would be the first to say that he owes a HUGE debt to Mr Blackmore

  • Thank You.

That does make sense. Merry Christmas!

  • Janick Gers on the fender six string before he played in Gillan then Janick goes on to Iron Maiden yes, they were huge Gillan fans. Dickenson was from Sampson who was recorded in Ian Gillans studio and Sampson was produced by Gillan bass man Jon Mccoy no wounder Maiden ripped it off they loved Janick in his first band White Spirit The history of metal by Jason the Viking

  • Thanks for the comment1

  • 2 minutessssssssssssssssssssssss to midnight ;D

  • Definitely where they got it from.

  • Comment removed

  • a poor man's highway star to be precise!

  • haha 2 minutes to midnight but this song was made earlier

  • Exactly

  • I heard them on a N.W.O.B.H.M. Sampler and is nice to remember ...

    Good old Times.

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • mr janick gers!!!

  • loved this band back in the 80's when i queued to make sure i got in to see them. best local band around at the time. still sound great.

  • This brings back some memories

Saw them at the Green Man pub in Leytonstone in the early 80's

  • good for you, i don't go to concerts very often

  • If you want some more Maiden influences, check out a song called Life's Shadow, by Beckett. I think you will be surprised.

  • if your arguing about maiden guitarists dave murray has the most talent

  • even joe stump rules!

  • Dave has got the best fingers but adrian the greatest and most different ideas! a great team! i like janick but he is not in the same league

  • @metalmeltdown12

if you are arguing, stop, it is childish and has no point

  • It's only a small riff... and that was a commonly used riff back then.

  • Size doesn't matter, only coolness does.

  • aidrian's a thief!

    a thief i tell you!

    gers is the master!

  • HEY! Adrian and Janick are same coolness!

Both they are great guitar players! But Adrian can make better compositions. Plus, if you want some real copy, check Thunderbust from Samson, and the Ides of March from MAIDEN! Sure you will shit your pants off!

  • aidrians good at writing singles,

but i find the songs he writes are more complex and musically interesting,

just my personal opinion i prefer his writing to steve,

have you heard the unbeliever or the legacy?

    they are true unappreciated classics,

  • Yhea, I have listened to that, but, I preffer the super Maiden-hit, Wasted Years, my favorite song!

  • that is a great song,

also listen to manhunt by wolfsbane,

they have a very similiar riff to back in the village,

  • Yeah, I checked it, it was some cool, but it wasn't the same riff, unless it is the same riff but 10000 times faster.

  • i new he would never be a singer there worst song

  • I think Maiden got the 2 minutes riff from the Riot song Swords and Tequila. They sound exactly the same.

  • Class to hear this again.

    RIP Crash

  • Jannnnnnnnnnnnicccccccccckkkkkkkk

    Gerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrsssssssssssssss

  • TWO MINUTES TO MIDNIGHTTTTTTTTTT

  • this was released before 2 minutes to midnight

  • This song is the son of Highway star

I saw them at carlisle withe quartz and Gillan headlined

  • it also reminds me of power lover by the rods...

  • the riff is almost exactly the same... even has "midnight"in the title lol

  • Well since Jannick Gers came from this band....

  • but janick did not write the riff to 23.58. Adrian did. And even tho Iron Maiden and White Spirit played to a lot of the same audiences, it doesn't mean that the boys from iron maiden had heard this riff before they wrote 2 minutes.. in 84.. You can hear countless of 80s songs based on that kind of riff (its in A..)

  • The whole song is like 2 Minutes To Midnight, great song this one to, but Maiden's ''version'' is better.

  • Hell I'm just glad somebody's listening to it! They were a great Band.

  • Its just like 23:58

  • I'm drunk as hell but who cares!! this is still great early metal. I want more White Spirit!! rock on!!!!

  • welcome back to 1980. great stuff

  • I have a real passion for N.W.O.B.H.M...I love this stuff.

  • woah, what a flashback,Janick Ger's 1st band.i used to love listening to all this stuff on the Friday Rock Show.R.I.P Tommy Vance.

  • I saw them at Sheffield City HAll with Saxon.
