What it was is an example of how the wealthy in this country always screw over the poor; ALWAYS!. They built a lake above a town for their own pleasure, modified the damn to make the fishing better, didn't take care of it, removed the drain pipes. After the flood the victims sued the club, but lost in court of course, since the judges were owned by the rich philanthropists who built the damn thing.
Just don't make fun of Johnstown. If that happened in your town would you like it if I said,"Oh, you're town is shaped like a bowl, no wonder they got flooded out!" It was the dam that broke AND it rained really hard on that day. It was a disaster that didn't need to happen if they would've fixed the dam properly. So, don't make fun of the way Johnstown is shaped. That had NOTHING to do with the flood.
Johnstown is in Western PA, about 2 hours East of Pittsburgh. Near Altoona, and Ebensburg if you are looking at a map.
It is also the place where the movies "ALL THE RIGHT MOVES" with Tom Cruise and "SLAPSHOT" with Paul Neuman was filmed... I grew up there and consider it my hometown!!! We also had a flood in 1977, not as bad as this one though....
@ 1:08 that building still stands.
