@ByEmptinessAbducted Local H's first album does sound a lot like Nirvana (and a bit like Smashing Pumpkins) but they really evolved their sound over their next few albums.
@donwantstobesedated i agree these guys sound very good, but the reason I made my lame comment was my first reaction to this band. (Local H) I was doing a Utube search for a progressive metal band called "Cynic" and this was one of the top results and when I clicked on it I wasn't expecting Local H. I have never heard of these guys ever before, hence my reaction with my silly comment about Nirvana. But all in good fun :-)
@mrcool665 sure didnt talk to me like that. I asked for a signature, told em they rocked, and then he said he wouldnt give me an autograph unless i bought something.
Great song. I was not a fan of this band but, they did have some truly talented members. They also had a few really great songs from the first record. RECORD, not tape or cd.
@MetalSiicken Because the powers that be prefer that your kids drool out the side of their mouths while listening to Clear Channel drivel like Katy, Miley, and Ke$ha that doesn't make them angry.
Althought the band isnt really that similar to nirvana the lighting and movement in this music are really similar to the smells like teen spirit music video
Hey just letting you all know that Joe Daniels former original drummer of Local h and his wife have a children's clothing line called Urban Brtaz and Spencer's Gifts RIPPED one of their designs off and now they are suing Spencer's.
Every band is a ripoff artist. I mean, if you play electric guitar at a very basic level you are a Chuck Berry ripoff artist at least. Nirvana used the music made before them (most notably the Pixies, Melvins, and Beatles) and created their own sound. Their sound was a pop infused version of grunge. Local H is no more a ripoff of Nirvana than Nirvana is a ripoff of the Beatles. If you want to talk ripoff artists, talk about Bush (who's still better than 90% of the shit nowadays).
@donwantstobesedated If you'r bitching about origionality first of all then stop listing to music. If you want everything to be always purely orgional then you will never be happy. They sound fucking awesome, it works why change it? If you honestly want an answer to your problem then its call Tool.
@donwantstobesedated Well originallity is pretty important for one, but Melvins are amazing and tool kinda made it their own. Theres a huge difference between copying and being inspired by something, but again i will say. Melvins are awesome
that's exactly what I was thinking-lay off the Cobain references, any Local H fan knows they were a big influence, so no shit, they will have some similarities...
For those of you making Cobain references, it's gotten old already. The comparisons have been played out after 16 years since his death. The fact is that Nirvanaesque music was all around the country, and merely needed to surface from the underground. If record companies had promoted Local H first, then we'd be calling Kurt Cobain a Scott Lucas wannabe. In all honesty, you could even say that Nirvana stole their style and sound from the Boston hardcore scene...making them ripoff artists.
I love Nirvana as much as the next guy. I miss the Seattle scene as much as the rest of my GenXers. But labeling a band a ripoff artist, when the band that they are supposedly ripping off is also a ripoff artist...it's ridiculous. All bands borrow their sound from someone, then evolve it. Just as King Crimson came long before Tool....MC5 came long before Nirvana. Noone is truly original anymore, for it has pretty much been done before. So, quit treating Cobain as if he invented "grunge".
Wow these guys seriously rock. I can't believe I've never heard of them before. I'll be supporting for sure. Hey you guys should check out "Navicula", from Indonesia. They are considered the "Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains", of Indo, and they are very worthy.
man, why cant alt rock be like this anymore?, i miss this on tv, now it's all dumb shit. I just bought ham fisted last wk, and i have, as good as dead, pack up the cats, here comes the zoo, what happened to pj soles?, 12 angry months. been a big fan since day one, just bought the 68 angry minuets dvd, if ur a fan its a must have to own. local h all the way!.
Local H is AWESOME! goin' to see them tomorrow night (12-29-2009) in Grand Rapids! if you haven't seen them live, i highly recommend you do! they're AWESOME!!!! ;)
I caught these guys live recently on accident, and imagine my surprise when they sounded more like Helmet than a radio band. I always just assumed it all sounded like "Bound For the Floor."
Great song, the best off Ham Fisted for sure. Also, hilariously cheesy robot animation. Is that intentional or did they have a budget of about one dollar? This isn't THAT old.
The animated monster (Son of Kroy) in this video was made especially for this Local H video by the infamous artist Eadweard r. York in Los Angeles. It was featured on MTV, and Bevis & Butthead.
LOL, A lot of ole skool potheads could relate to that.
I remember watchin this video w/my cousin in the early 90s on some Beavis &Butthead episode. Hell, we smoked hella bud in those days, lol.
1990s were fuckin fun, dawg!!! I pity the new generation. I am married now with 3 kids now(been in the Army and College). Hip Hop m was good /Rock was good lIfe was good , everything, man.
Maybe the 2010s will be a btter decade, but the Clintonb Dayus were awesome.
why are people argueing over other music i mean i get the whole "influences define them" vibe ...... but Local H is fucking Local H and just apprechiate the fucking music ...
Its because black people have an inferiority complex and try to take credit for whatever they can because somehow it shows how good their race really is. In reality, its stupid because in reality white people don't care about that shit anymore and Blacks do.
and before that, blues... the real start of "modern" music. without it, we would still be listening to classical-esk. And blues came from slaves... who got what they have from Africa. On the more classical side... Has anybody gotten my sarcasm yet? Music is fucking music. listen and stop trying to prove whos right and wrong. lol. Children
AND... if you want to get really technical... The Beatles wouldn't have been anything without Bob Dylan. Paul and John said that he was their biggest influence. ^_^ YEAH BOB DYLAN!!!
hell yeah man agreed... and i just give the respect where its due. The only point i was tryin to make was kurt cobain is a major influence in rock. but theres always some dickhead who likes start an argument over anything

I always wanted to grow my hair out because of Scott. I never got around to it. But now I am growing it out to donate my hair. Seeing this video again reminds me of good times.
yeah not like he changed the course of music, or influence a whole generation, or make 1 of the best songs of all time noted by many, or anything like that
ummm no.... although mudhoney was a huge influence on nirvana, they weren't the ones that all those wack ass hair metal bands bitched bout ruining their careers
without green river or mudhoney (i guess they are pretty much the same thing) grunge would probably not of taken off. if it did it certainly would not be called grunge. i think the hair metal bands only bitched about nirvana because they were the most famous.
yeah well you can say the same thing about the pixies and alot of other punk bands, but nirvana was the one who brought the sound above ground. Not taking anything away from mudhoney, but facts is after nevermind took off, the radios stopped playin that shit like winger. Which opened the airwaves for bands like soundgarden, aic, and pearl jam. If you're really trying to get technical, there wouldnt be any of this shit without the beatles.
I fucking hate how I can't see the original comment! I really want to see why 7 people gave the comment a thumbs down and prompted jsik69x to comment as he did. FML
not worth the time kid.... just some douche sayin cobain is like the most under rated ever or some shit. regardless glad too see people are still up on this shit
Kurt Cobain was never ever under-rated as a musician. Except by critics a little bit. Regardless, he was definately one of the best musicians of the 90's grunge scene.
I've seen them a couple of times and my bands played with them too... really nice guys... I like the old drummer better but they still rock live. The new drummer gets tired quick and like the drums stop carying the songs sometimes... he needs joe back!
first off im here to listen to local h.second, nirvanas lyrics have to do wih drug use and his girlfriends and hisrelationship with his asshole family and undertones of all of the above or like polly he saw a story in the paper one morning about a girl who escaped from her kidnapper when he stopped at a gas station she booked anurisum is about drug use so is on a plain, drain you, mollys lips, milk it,etc...now im going back to local h and have fun again stop with nirvana already2 diff bands
How about we all realize that Grunge was a bullshit label that was only slapped on bands that came from the pacific northwest. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Screaming Trees... do any of them sound anything alike? No. Didn't fucking think so. And once they got famous, they stopped wearing flannel, as well. Look a little further than what the media tells you something is.
enough with nirvana. They are highly overrated. I mean local H has better lyrics. Plus, Alice in Chains is the best grunge band. Local H deserves a lot more recognition.
What is it with people and thinking Kurt Cobain made great lyrics. I mean it means nothing. Its all nonsense. Kurt himself said that he grew tired of ppl trying to find so much meaning into his lyrics. Now, Layne Staley didn't write that good of lyrics either, but Jerry Cantrell wrote way better lyrics.
it's not the meaning of the myrics i mean, it's like when i hear him i jut wanna hit someone in the face or something, you know it gets my adrenaline pumping, and alice in chains have some great lyrics ofc would and down in a hole are fantastic and the unplugged songs
read the mad season lyrics also read most of the alice in chains self titled (tripod) and jar of flies then say Staleys lyrics werent that great. Cantrell wrote amazing but you can feel something when you read Staleys that you cant find in anyone else's lyrics
Hell yeah ! I saw them in NYC in 97/98! 1 of the greatest shows I ever saw! Joe signed my tix stub! Joe is a bad ass drummer wish he never left the band.
I'm pretty sure it was because Nirvana was around and just kinda blew them over. Otherwise I have no idea who they got overlooked. I love them and unfortunatly missed seeing them in concert.
i find it funny Local H came out BEFORE the white stripes but T.W.S. got the attention for being a 2 piece- there was a story about when the band was getting signed; instead of hiring a bass player, he modified his guitar so it could play both the guitar & bass parts-that was smart-
& yeah- smashing pumpkins were VERY overated
but so was nirvana and pretty much every other band from the 90's;
&as for today... lets just say i miss the classic bands

Local H formed in 87. Nirvana also formed in 87
Seattle and Chicago. Many miles apart.
They are the results just as "Sub-Divisions" by Rush had predicted.
Garage bands were now grunge bands. All over the country. Technology also boomed which made it easier and much faster to spread music.
Just how I remember it...

yeah well you can say the same thing about the pixies and alot of other punk bands, but nirvana was the one who brought the sound above ground. Not taking anything away from mudhoney, but facts is after nevermind took off, the radios stopped playin that shit like winger. Which opened the airwaves for bands like soundgarden, aic, and pearl jam. If you're really trying to get technical, there wouldnt be any of this shit without the beatles.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
music today would probably be better without the beatles they were one of the first to make way overrated music.
ealmintheplayground 3 years ago
Theyre way overrated, but the Beatles infulenced every rock band technically

I fucking hate how I can't see the original comment! I really want to see why 7 people gave the comment a thumbs down and prompted jsik69x to comment as he did. FML

not worth the time kid.... just some douche sayin cobain is like the most under rated ever or some shit. regardless glad too see people are still up on this shit
jsik69x 2 years ago
Kurt Cobain was never ever under-rated as a musician. Except by critics a little bit. Regardless, he was definately one of the best musicians of the 90's grunge scene.
mustangcobain65 2 years ago
are you kidding? nirvana starrted in 1987 and dint have a otable fan base until 1991 , not alot o people liked kurts tyle in th beginning

all you have to do is click "options" beside the comment counter and select "show all" but like jsik69x said, it's not really worth the time.

I've seen them a couple of times and my bands played with them too... really nice guys... I like the old drummer better but they still rock live. The new drummer gets tired quick and like the drums stop carying the songs sometimes... he needs joe back!

Nirvana is the best and will always be the best grunge band ever.

Whoa. Whoa. No.

enough with nirvana. They are highly overrated. I mean local H has better lyrics. Plus, Alice in Chains is the best grunge band. Local H deserves a lot more recognition.
Muse4life05 3 years ago 5
dude ur right bout the alice in chains statement but i doubt this guy wrote better lyrics then kurt thats just my silly opinion :p
Stigmakind 3 years ago
What is it with people and thinking Kurt Cobain made great lyrics. I mean it means nothing. Its all nonsense. Kurt himself said that he grew tired of ppl trying to find so much meaning into his lyrics. Now, Layne Staley didn't write that good of lyrics either, but Jerry Cantrell wrote way better lyrics.
Muse4life05 3 years ago
it's not the meaning of the myrics i mean, it's like when i hear him i jut wanna hit someone in the face or something, you know it gets my adrenaline pumping, and alice in chains have some great lyrics ofc would and down in a hole are fantastic and the unplugged songs
Stigmakind 3 years ago
read the mad season lyrics also read most of the alice in chains self titled (tripod) and jar of flies then say Staleys lyrics werent that great. Cantrell wrote amazing but you can feel something when you read Staleys that you cant find in anyone else's lyrics

Mad Season: Above is one of the greatest albums ever created.

I'm pretty sure it was because Nirvana was around and just kinda blew them over. Otherwise I have no idea who they got overlooked. I love them and unfortunatly missed seeing them in concert.
PomagranatePuma 4 years ago 3
Missed? They're still together (though Joe Daniels left the band and has been replaced by Brian St. Clair) and they still tour.
popisfizzy 3 years ago
Haha, missed? Local H tours more than any band I know of. Best live shows EVER!

Apparently they've been recording a new album.
popisfizzy 4 years ago
i find it funny Local H came out BEFORE the white stripes but T.W.S. got the attention for being a 2 piece- there was a story about when the band was getting signed; instead of hiring a bass player, he modified his guitar so it could play both the guitar & bass parts-that was smart-
& yeah- smashing pumpkins were VERY overated
but so was nirvana and pretty much every other band from the 90's;
&as for today... lets just say i miss the classic bands
