Americans will really let each other down when it comes to integrity and vision in their leaders. More often than not, people vote for the "he looks presidential" candidate than "his positions are the most promising" candidate. It's as simple as Romney being talk, dark, and handsome.

If he is elected, it's just more proof of the superficiality of American society.

The interesting thing about superficiality is it goes slices both ways. If you reject someone just because you perceive them as being "too good looking" or because you assume a switch in a position is a "flip flop" rather than a genuine change with significant nuance behind it then YOU are no LESS superficial than those who may vote for him because of his looks.

That's a valid point if someone rejected a candidate based on those criteria. However, it seems most liberals reject Romney because of his tone and rhetoric when referencing other candidates. This form of "diplomacy" is not a superficial concern.

tone is generally a silly thing to out and out reject someone on. And I'd like you to point out what rhetoric of Romney's you find offensive or off putting. And when you are aiming to be the most assertive republican, in terms of holding the line on republican issues, there's a certain line that, diplomacy or no, you draw in the sand.

If it's silly to you, that's your problem. My standards, and those of most other liberals, for debate are obviously more sophisticated. As for a recent example, Romney deliberately "made the mistake" of confusing the names Obama and Osama during a speech. Also, it is in poor taste to continue to refer to Senator Clinton as "Hillary".
