The Buddha did not reject the creator God as there are many mentions to Brahma, what He said was that there is no proof there was a Creator, nor any proof this Creator has the power to do all things. Karma is supreme regardless of whether there is a god or not. Also, in Buddhism, Bodhisattvas like Kannon and Buddhas like Amitabha are even more powerful than Brahma & Buddha Himself is referred to as the King of All Gods, Eternal & Omniscient & Father of all Living Beings in the Lotus Sutra.
I Respect the Buddha and I know the Karma business very well... To say that nobody created us or the world is false we did get created from something that most of us we call God! We are all here weather you like it or not, God gives you free choice! Buddha is a way of life and when you die you can reach Enlightenment! For me I rather be helping build amazing things with God by teaching others the skills and the gift of the Almighty Creator...
Are you seeking the ultimate truth? Search for "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then click on "The Present" to open it. It is not what you think it is.
In Buddhism, the universe comes into existence dependent upon the actions (karma) of its inhabitants. Buddhists posit neither an ultimate beginning or final end to the universe, but see the universe as something in flux, passing in and out of existence, parallel to an infinite number of other universes doing the same thing.
@GreenSpirit3 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the Life ; no man cometh unto the Father but by me. Jesus Christ the Son of God who took away the sins of the world so that we can live with Him forever after "this" life. ....soooo ummmm what did buddah do??
Simply not enough space for big ideas to be posted on youtube......
The reality of Buddhism is right here and right now. It is a path of humans.. of all living beings. The idea of God has no room in that path and is a hindrance to the path. It is a chain that binds us and like all chains, the Buddha himself included, must at some point be dropped. It is all about us.
The words theist or atheist in terms of Buddhism are something of a blind alley and may be an extension of dualism. We may be locking ourselves into the illusion of "this is this and that is that", still creating ideas/concepts of seperations. For the longest time I called myself an atheist but I have since come to an understanding of non-theism. I would think it would be best to call Buddhism a non-theist path. The existence/nonexistence of God is irrelevant. God doesn't matter,
As Buddhists, we like to think that anything bad that happened was due to our ignorance of the reality, rather than the result of an adversary. Anyway, different religions has different concepts of god and how the world works.
To all Buddhists here, I urge you to restrain yourself from bringing down another religion, it will only do you no good (Karma). Gods from other religions are like teachers. And in Buddhism, bringing down a teacher is a big no no.
After reading all the comments, i understand why Buddha doesn't want to answer the question on gods. Why? Because the answer will never be right or wrong, it is of no benefit to anyone, it will only spark pointless debates and conflicts among people, causing unwanted distractions, making it a hindrance towards enlightenment. Buddha never wanted to see anyone of you wasting your time by debating, he just wants to see his students gain enlightenment one day!
Buddha refered to Buddha Nature as Jesus to the Kingdom of God within us. Buddha said we can also be Buddhas and Jesus said we are children of God. Both said the same. Both Enlightened Beings had such elevated consciousness and inner experience that it was dificult to put to words of their understanding. We should just keep our mouth shut and meditate and pray to reach their levels.
"Then God saw everything that he had made (creation and man) and indeed it was very good." Gen 1:31 All the evil and suffering that led Buddha to his own philosophy of life - was because of sin - God made all good - gave man freewill to choose and mankind chose their own way and sin is passed on to every child - God gave us freewill - because true love is only possible when we have freewill. God has given us all we need to be made whole: WHEN WE WERE SINNERS CHRIST DIED FOR US: only believe.
@janneyisin this is not buddhism, buddha teaching is lead to god(brahma), please see my video response to this video, I refute all lies on this video, to know the real buddha teaching
@janneyisin "Then God saw everything that he had made (creation and man) and indeed it was very good."
If everything god made was " VERY GOOD", then how come there is "SIN"? Since god created the man with a "free will" whatever man does should be also "VERY GOOD" !
@woobstoob their is no beginning just like god had no creator the same is with everything else the universe has no creator it was never created it is a cuntinuem of a continuem it never began it never ends.
dude, what buddha according to these early texts is sais is the same arguments we Atheists us againts god..... except also in india, there was a pantheistic prevailing view, which said the whole univierse was god, meaning that each human was their own god, another view, but buddha would've hated that since those humans use their conciousness to draw more craving (wants) from life, buddha discouraged using these attractive mind forces.
Blind fools. This exactly why there is such horrible acts of evil. People have forgotten God. You are playing directly into satan's hands. If you really wish to find truth, consider God and what He has done for you through Jesus Christ.
Buddha's God? Uh... try NAMU MYOHO RENGE KYO! The Buddha Nature is within you, that IS God! Everything other than NAMU MYOHO RENGE KYO is secondary or unimportant (provisional). Chant the Daimoku: "Namu Myoho Renge Kyo" for yourself and see for yourself! (It can't hurt to try)!
The Buddha was never for or against the Idea of a God. Buddha's teachings is a philosophy towards living, and not a religion. He was never for or against any religion. Not sure where the person got the idea that Buddha rejects God. Seems like they are just putting words into people's mouth. Video Failed!!!!
Have you even read what Buddha taught? Stop repeating like a parrot what you have heard and take look at what is in TRIPITAKA- th e Buddhist scripture. The Greatness of Buddhas Philosophy comes from denying a Creator God, Rejecting a hidden Soul and realisation of Impernance in everything (emptyness).
@craigMellow yes, I'm a big fan of Buddha and Jesus' real teachings. I learned about the Dharmapada, the Four Noble Truths, and the Eightfold Paths. These are believed to be the true and direct teachings of the Buddha himself. And the those words I spoke of earlier came from those scriptures. The Buddha was never for or against any religion. Thanks for telling me about the Tripitaka. I will read up on it when I have time. I'm not repeating any thing from anyone, I've done research on my own
@craigMellow Yes, and the Dhammapada is the only part that was originally passed down from the Buddha to his students before he past away. Do you know what caused it to split into two branches of Buddhism? Because the monks could not agree on the later teachings that were added. Period. Since you're starting to act like a five year old kid, I will ignore you. Good luck on your path and don't bother replying back. good luck.
The split had nothing to do with the Dhammapada vs. Tipitaka. The two branches of Buddhism happened because of Tipitaka vs. Mahayana Sutras. The earliest branch, Theravada, accepted the whole Tipitaka.
@craigMellow I do get what you're saying though. The Buddha's original teachings has been alter and some branches has changed and added there own teachings and claimed it to be from the Buddha himself. Some even believe in Gods and superstitious rituals. Just like how early Christianity and Jesus' original teachings are a lot different from what is being taught in the bible and in churches nowadays. Peace my friend. I hate debating about religion and stuff. It usually gets nowhere. Peace!!
You idiot! He quoted passages straight from scripture with references so you can check for yourself. The Buddha gave an entire discourse refuting God in the Culla Vagga of the Tipitaka. Have you read Buddhist scripture? If not, shut the fuck up, you don't know what you're talking about. Btw, Buddha scorned people for misrepresenting his teachings, so he would likely express the same contempt towards your slander of Buddha.
@BTNH24 Just checked it. Buddha couldnt have" given the entire discourse refuting God in the Cullavagga.". Do you know why??.. Because The Cullavagga was written after the first and second Buddhist council. Buddha was already long gone by the time the cullavagga was written. "Buddha would most likely express the same contempt towards your slander". I highly doubt that because the Buddha taught to love everyone, even his enemy. and I'm right about him not being against God. I have proof.
What a dumbass! hey mate! stop your verbal diarrhoea. Your lies are exposed one after the other and your non sensiscal claims are all refuted yet you have no shame. Buddhist scriptures were first put on to writing in Sri Lanka long after Buddha's death INCLUDING DHAMMAPADA. You are a lier . Refute my video if you van or shut the f--up!
@craigMellow You people kept on calling me all these names while not even once did I said anything vulgar towards you people other than that Buddha did not reject God and that the video is incorrect. If this is how Buddhist followers are than I rather follow my own path. Don't talk all tough internet tough guy. I'll knock you out with a roundhouse kick to the head if you said that to me in person. So Fuck you assholes. Stop acting like tough bitches. You ain't shit.
@GetDamage I have to disagree. As far as I know Buddhism says that the Universe has always existed since an infinite past and will continue to exist to an infinite future. There was never any Creation, there will never be an end of the world, and there is no Creator. The Universe is continously changing. This is called impermanence. There is no God that created us, there is no God that controls or interferes in our lives. Everything that happens in our lives is the result or our own actions.
@BuddhismJodoShinshu Thanks for the comment. From searching around I realized that this video was talking about the "personal God". The God I was talking about is the "impersonal God" . There's a big difference. According to Mahatma Gandhi, " God is life, truth, love, light, and the supreme good." So in this case, God is real. I sent that video to craigmellow hoping to clear some things up, but he was too busy being rude. and then Btnh24 decided to give me a piece of his mind.
@GetDamage Not knowing what the whole conversation was about,Btnh24 decided to get involved. I have never met a bunch of rude Buddhist followers ever. From searching around, I realized that a lot of Buddhist monks are against "God". Maybe evenangrily towards that idea. I remember reading about the Buddha not caring about God because he thinks it doesn't really matter if there was a God or not. And that he taught to respect other peoples' religions and believes by not going against other religion
If you admit that the Buddha didn't care about God, then how could he possibly believe in God? Surely if he believed in God, God would be of high importance and the Buddha wouldn't simply say "God doesn't matter." Anyways, the Buddha did actually say that belief in God DOES matter because it can be detrimental to the believer and stifle awakening. Read the Tittha Sutta and you will see this fact.
@BTNH24 Basically, he is saying that it doesn't matter what he believes in. Whether he believes in one or not. He gave the people the option to choose on their own. In fact, I think I read that their was a branch of Buddhism that believes in Gods. I am pretty sure. You can google this if you are interested in it. I'm sorry, but I am no longer interested in Buddhism.
@GetDamage But to be fair, I do agree with what you're saying... You can tell that the buddha does not agree with some religions. That's why he said, "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. ..
@GetDamage ... Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
-- Buddha . He didn't want to call out any religion... I think we should respect that.
@BTNH24 ive never read the tittha sutta i dont think but at the same time buddha said he was the teacher of gods and men and their are MANY buddhas, also buddha was worshipped by all the supposed gods,
also by following buddhas teaching observe this "god"if god is real then god created everything even evil?why doesnt an all powerfull god help a little girl who is being rape?? surely an all loving being who had the power to help would?who created this god?who created the god who created this god
You say that the Buddha said not to "go against other religions"? Are you serious? According to scripture in the Mahaparinibanna Sutta of the Tipitaka, the Buddha said to "vanquish and refute" other false religions and to establish Buddhism as the "pure religion of truth" so that it is "well proclaimed among men." Seriously, learn more about the Buddha's actual teachings before you make these false claims.
@BTNH24 You can believe whatever you like. Buddhism transformed into 8 different types after the Buddha's death and spread around East Asia. They all claim to be teaching his true teachings, yet they can't agree on a lot of things. We can sit here an entire lifetime and argue about this, but it's not going to get anywhere... Buddhism was never meant to be a religion, the Buddha was not meant to be worship as God. But the religion will tell you otherwise, and religion is what everyone follows.
@GetDamage buddhism didnt really split these different sect just FOCUS on a paticular teaching u can find pureland, zen, and tibetan buddhism in the pali canon and vice versa also we need to recongnise ALL religious texts are written by men & the truth can be rewritten to keep women beneath men.it is true the seeker of the dharma is not supposed to be ATTACHED TO RITUAL religion is just a preception,BUT buddhas are PURE and the greatest being in ALL scriptures the buddha was worshipped as HIGHEST
@BTNH24 I'm no longer interested in this subject. I've written this a long time ago, and someone has brought this up before. Thanks for taking the time and sharing some knowledge. I wish you the best on your journey of Buddhism and the path of truth and knowledge.
@BTNH24 If you really want to know the answer to your questions. I suggest you watch the Dalai Lama's lecture. You can scroll down to find the title of the video. It's an hour long. I think that video will answer your questions. I think you will enjoy the video. I think it's a must watch for all Buddha followers.
@GetDamage From this experience, I have gained a better knowledge of Buddhist followers and their views. I appreciate everyone for sharing their views and experience. Take care people .
u r right/with a first look i thought they were atheists(like:ex-christian atheists)...so they are budhist atheists u say.i don t know why atheists are always so insulting .the fact are budhists just amazes me more..it means their ethic is after all affected negatively by their beliefs and honestly i don t see why would that be.another interesting point is that as soon as you answer in the same way..suddenly ..there is more ...respect.(?)
@delagrazia Hi. Thanks for leaving a comment. I found the answer to my own ignorance. I realized that if I wanted to learn about Buddhism, I should learn from a well respected Buddhist. According to the Dalai Lama, Buddhism is non-atheist. If you are interested in Buddhism, I recommend searching for "Harry's Last Lecture on a Meaningful Life: The Dalai Lama." It's an1hr30 mins. long. A very inspirational lecture from the Lama himself. just copy and paste the title here on youtube. Thanks again.
@delagrazia I'm not a Buddhist but... Yeah, I'm positive. It came directly from the Dalai Lama's mouth in this video. copy and paste this in the youtube search bar: Harry's Last Lecture on a Meaningful Life: The Dalai Lama. In the lecture, he talks about the meaning of life. He also talks about the negative effects of not believing in religions at the 1hr and 16 mins mark. He also talks about why it's bad to follow only one religion, and he talks about why we should respect all religions.
for me,the question of god or no god ain't the core bussiness of life.why bother when there's no definate answer? In reality, there's a need for man to purify his heart. There's so much misgivings, inability to forgive..it takes upholding religious precepts to change all that
let me provide you with the reference : the Jataka mentioned was Bhuridatta Jataka. Next, about the divergent views, its in the Brahmajala Sutta. ~ peace
If Anatta - no soul is universalö character of all things How come a GOD exist. You are just taking literal meaning. In Buddhism there is no place for Creator GOD. Only "you" (your wisdom) can lead you to liberation. Study Theravada Buddhism and read Burma, Sri lanka and Indian Interpretations of Buddhism.
For Example "what the Buddha Taught" by REV. Walpola Rahula-
Jataka may be non-canonical, but Buddha rejects God in the canonical Tipitaka and Mahayana Sutras. Go to the Tittha Sutta (Tipitaka), the Culla Vagga 6:2 (Tipitaka), and the Lankavatara Sutra (Mahayana). In the Lankavatara Sutra, Buddha rejects God at least 10 times, in the Culla Vagga, he refutes the theory of a first cause creator God, he uses the problem of evil, and even refutes the God-theory of the Absolute.
@BTNH24 The Dharmapada was the only text that was believed to be the direct teachings of the buddha. It seems like the Tipitaka has different views from what was written in the Dharmapada, The Eightfold Path, and The Noble Truth. Buddha's main concern was to help others end their suffering. That's the path of the Buddha... These other scripts that came afterwards seems to have been written with other purposes in mind, so just keep that in mind. Peace! =)
Buddha rejected God, Soul and a creator. What you are repeating about dhammapada is a stupid lie. Dhammapada is written in KUDDAKA NIKAYA in SUTTA PITAKA , one of the volumes of TRIPITAKA.
You know nothing about Buddhist scripture. The Dhammapada is part of the Tipitaka, yet you say the Tipitaka is a separate and later writing. You also have no evidence to back up your claims.
Also, you're dead wrong about Buddha concerning the union with Brahma. He was talking to Hindu Brahmins who believed that union with Brahma was the highest achievement and they asked how to go about this, so Buddha taught them the path to Nirvana, because to the Brahmins, union with Brahma is their version of Nirvana.
Not once did Buddha ever equate Brahma with Nirvana. Please, read your scriptures before spewing non-sense.
Buddha clearly rejected "soul" . According to Buddhism soul-lessness is one major character. So howcome there be a creator-God?? get your facts correct and read Thripitaka .
buddha was a cool sensible guy he taught people to be good and compassionate,to be loving even towards animals,he knew people wer wasting thr time on god so he just kept silent abt it,buddha is the greatest human being ever his teachings make much more sense then whether jesus was crucified and the evil teachings of mohammad, buddhist is a school of philosophy and is a part of hinduism when it moved out of india it became a religion,in india it ws part of the shramana tradition of hinduism
uhh i hate to break it to u ....but buddhist DO have gods, goddess and demons and they believe in REINCARNATION which sounds fairy tale to u! they are polythiest, not athiest! just like the hindus. plus every religion has thier own philosophy of life, not just buddhism. buddha himself beleived in gods and supernaturals in his lifetime. please!
I read about EVERY religion and i know what i am talking about. Buddha was born in nepal and nepal had dieties(god) and he believed in them he also had trouble with demons in his life. he was a polythiest. he became enlightened and he had the same alibi as jesus christ (disicples, enlightment, teachings, followers, philosophy). not only God, but Gods.
Dude! if yoy think thats what Buddhism is , well I hope in your next life , you will have more wisdom. I left Islam and I am amased by the philosophies and discourses of Buddhism. " Buddha was a Polytheist"-- ROTFLMAO
the gods u referred are those deva or devi, who will still be in life cycle. Buddhism doesn't believe there is a universal Creator like christian or muslim Allah!
In buddhism, they do believe supernatural power possessed by human, but it's not ultimate goal of buddhism.
Every religion has its own self development! not only buddhism. yes buddhist do rely on external powers...nirvana, meditation, spirit, riencarnation and etc.
FYI, Mara is none other than death, which only in Buddhism where "Mara" is defeated by stopping Birth or becoming ("re-birth" -No soul in Buddhism") by conquring "craving" or "Desire". Mara is Not a person, but personified term for death, (and Suffering- Dukka )
really then why in wikipedia it said that mara was a DEMON? he tempted buddha! he tepmted everyone from spiritual life. now u are saying that death tempts everyone? even buddha? early buddhist seen him as a force of evil. wats going on?
this is 3rd grade iconising dude! this Mara is , desire for sensual pleasures which arises because of ignorance, because of false view of there is a permanent soul. Because desire it finaly results in death and re-birth and again the cycle continues. this is what Mara is!
So mara is a death personification? Death is also personified by all religions like christians called death gabriel or the angle of death and other religions too. for christians when we die...as jesus taught our eternal life is our consciousness and we are in peace.
if you want to taste coffee, please pour out your tea that filling your cup, then you will be able to understand the taste of coffee. If your cup is still filled with tea, how can u taste the coffee that filling into your cup?
But still riencarnation is rebirth which mean "life agian"...come back as a plant or a an animal or a human, thats what my cambodian buddhist girlfriend told me. thats not supernatural? ok what if i said that our soul (consciousness) gets free from our bodies and floats around the earth...as jesus said. we are just energy floating around because we are really consciousness and not bodies? thats not supernatural?. FYI faith, prayer, hope are also inner power.
reincarnation is everyone has to experience. It isn't supernatural, just because you don't discover it. Your faith in whom? pray to whom? still to external power - God! It isn't self-development. Buddhism teaching every being can be Buddha, Buddha means enlightened one, NOT an external superpower body.
of couse its self development...jesus had taught us morals to a good life. faith and prayer is inner power because he taught we are all gods. as said in the scriptures. but we just have a higher authority (god) but we say we are part of him. jesus was also an enlightened one. read the book from deepak of jesus and buddha: story of enlightment! hey either reincarnation or heaven (conscious free). jesus and buddha taught us that we make our own heaven and hell to our suffering.
@waynehyl They dont even know what jesus taught and what he is really trying to say either...they just accept him for what he is not. there is so many similarities between jesus and buddha that they teach the same messages but in different ways.
what a stpud argument! Can your God save you from you having cancer?? or Alzhimer?? why some people are rich and some poor?
The whole philosophy of Buddhism is about EXTINGUISHING of Desire and Craving and there by becoming free of infinite cycles of births and deaths and obviously suffering in life.
Yeah dream on! Thousands of little children die from cancer and other congenital diseases , your Allah is help less. They suffer for years , your Allah cant bring end to their suffering?? yeah believe in Non-existing imaginary god. good luck! you might need lot of luck! ;)
Did you read Quran? God never said he will come to earth and cure the cancer. So many people especially athiests have this misconception about Allah that he,the God is for giving goodness to people when they live in this world.
Islam teaches that God is examining us sometimes god will give much money sometimes cancer. What we got we have live in good manner so that we will get paradise.
Who told you that God is for curing disease? What do you think about God?
[God is examining us sometimes god will give much money sometimes cancer], that means no matter how much effort we put is still dependent on God's consent?
what is wrong with those victims of tsunami or earthquake? Aren't they living in good manner?
God was conceptualised by ancient human to answer what was beyong their knowledge during that time. e.g ancient human didn't understand how thunder was formed, they thought there might be a supoerpower to control it. Therefore they started to pray the thunder.
Did you take any interview with Ancient man? If not Where did you get this information?
Quran didn't say to worship God blindly instead Quran says to conduct research and find the truth.
Not only ancient human but also modern man don't know nothing about many disasters in this universe. Do you know about why speed of light kept constant always? There may be a master brain to keep this entire universe.
Islam ?? whats that? The cult of a pedophile? The fairy tale for the uneducated low IQ Morons? why even mention it here ? Islam even cant stand with deep Buddhist philosophy and Discourses.
ROTFLMAO! first learn what is Buddhism. do you whats Philosophy or Discourse is? do you Know in Quantum Mechanics only Buddhist Philosophy explained what was observed?? get some decent education! Dont make your self a Joker!
ROTFLMAO! yeah right, but Buddhist philosophy what used to explain sub-atomic particle behavior! do your research, I wont do it for you! you are funny though!
BUT Toaism explains it better than buddism because it gave us the idea that we are all connect to eachother, to the earth and to the whole universe! plus every religion connects to science in its own ways. there is islam and science, hinduism and science, christian science, toaism and science and more!
Thats "Your" view. It is CHATHUSHKOTI logic in BUDDHISM ( Four fold logic) which was used in intrepeting the dilemma of momentum and position of a subatomic particle! This couldnt be explained by Jewish -greko-christian two fold logic.
@craigMellow WTF! every religion have its own philosophy of life u idiot!...u flap ur mouth about buddhist this and that and this and that like its the perfect religion.
Christianity: love, warning agianst evil, togetherness, marriage
Islam: wisdom of man, friendship, etc
hinduism: karma (consequences for past wrong doings), etc
Plus Buddha had the same Alibi as Jesus. they taught the same messages, had followers, came from both parents, taught different afterlife, teached on areas of life,
budda is long dead and dust and no longer maggot food! another false religion created by a man who only taught as a man and died as one too! only problem for him is that he's still dead and hasn't risen at all because everyone dies, but not everyone lives! the same goes to mohammed.
Even buddha died, no god rising again does not make him any greater. but buddha shows us that all of us have to die inevitably!! so deal with it. you are not god and most people are not, so the rule does not apply to you
gods in buddhism is not like god in christian where the gods'll live in heaven for eternal.gods is also a part of the samsara(six) realms and gods will be in heaven for a very long time but it's not eternal because it's part of the illusion as well.enlightenment is the only way for us to escape from this endless cycles of reincarnation.
I have many books on the Buddha and meditation. If God is a concept in the mind than Buddhism will not agree with you...But if you discover your true enlightened nature and see reality directly then God becomes clear and buddhism will agree with you!
Buddhism was in fact under huge threat from some Brahmin controlled rajput kings and Muslims...
Theres no denial that Buddhism have made a huge impact everywhere even the cruel Mongols who made their enemy hide in trees and behind rocks converted to the glourious teaching of the Buddha..
Buddha does mension God but not as the monetheist religion adresses it but Buddhism adress God different..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Gautama Buddha acknowledged the existence of devas (gods) and even Brahma. Read the suttas. Buddhism is extremely misunderstood. The Buddha even said rain falls because gods make it rain. Rain gods! Thank goodness for the European enlightenment. If you like Buddhism, please consider delving into existentialism. Buddhism almost died out in India and China FOR A REASON! Not because of Hindus or Muslims... There own people rejected it.
I'm fairly ignorant about Buddhism. But that is the impression that I am getting. Buddha seems to be a philosopher. Are you Buddhist? can you recommend the best way for me to gain an understanding of Busshism?
Buddhism is more a philosophy or way of living. No, unfortunately I am not a Buddhist, but admire him as the most scientific approach to existence. You can search , first in wikipedia, and these two users have fine material:
adding on, maybe the universe came from god, but now He doesn't run our lives... it's up to us to seek the power from within. Shakyamuni figured this out. It is that if we RELY on god, that can lead to suffering. weather or not you believe in god is up to you. it wont affect your path to enlightenment. gasho
Buddhism doesnt revolve around god, but you can believe in god if you want. I am a Mahayana Buddhist and I believe in god. I just dont personify god like most poeple do. Like how the jews and christains call their god the god of abraham. I just see god as this unknown force. And yes I believe in karma as well. It is the only law of the universe... and imperminance

Maybe the qualities you presume are 'godly' aren't!
Maybe you reject reality and wish for an existence that doesn't exist nor will happen. You want God to be Santa Claus, reward you for your adherence
to 'rules' that are nothing but your false idealogy. Or you believe that people
who don't live by YOUR idealogy should be punished. That sounds like
religion. The true nature of God is beyond mortal men, whether they are
priests, mullahs, rabbi's,guru's, philosophers or scientists.

God doesn't matter,
ricksullivan 7 months ago

The Buddha is the Spiritual Father of Christ.
Remember what the Buddha taught his companion Ananda, "Having admirable friends is the whole of the holy life!" (not just half).
The primary source of all human bliss is relationships with admirable people.

@GetDamage
Have you even read what Buddha taught? Stop repeating like a parrot what you have heard and take look at what is in TRIPITAKA- th e Buddhist scripture. The Greatness of Buddhas Philosophy comes from denying a Creator God, Rejecting a hidden Soul and realisation of Impernance in everything (emptyness).
craigMellow 1 year ago
@craigMellow yes, I'm a big fan of Buddha and Jesus' real teachings. I learned about the Dharmapada, the Four Noble Truths, and the Eightfold Paths. These are believed to be the true and direct teachings of the Buddha himself. And the those words I spoke of earlier came from those scriptures. The Buddha was never for or against any religion. Thanks for telling me about the Tripitaka. I will read up on it when I have time. I'm not repeating any thing from anyone, I've done research on my own

Mate ! Dhammapada is a part of thripitaka. LOL! I rest my case. !
please read and gain knowledge before acting like a arrogant genius
craigMellow 1 year ago
@craigMellow Yes, and the Dhammapada is the only part that was originally passed down from the Buddha to his students before he past away. Do you know what caused it to split into two branches of Buddhism? Because the monks could not agree on the later teachings that were added. Period. Since you're starting to act like a five year old kid, I will ignore you. Good luck on your path and don't bother replying back. good luck.
GetDamage 1 year ago
@GetDamage
The split had nothing to do with the Dhammapada vs. Tipitaka. The two branches of Buddhism happened because of Tipitaka vs. Mahayana Sutras. The earliest branch, Theravada, accepted the whole Tipitaka.
BTNH24 1 year ago
@craigMellow I do get what you're saying though. The Buddha's original teachings has been alter and some branches has changed and added there own teachings and claimed it to be from the Buddha himself. Some even believe in Gods and superstitious rituals. Just like how early Christianity and Jesus' original teachings are a lot different from what is being taught in the bible and in churches nowadays. Peace my friend. I hate debating about religion and stuff. It usually gets nowhere. Peace!!

Have you read Buddhist scripture? If not, shut the fuck up, you don't know what you're talking about. Btw, Buddha scorned people for misrepresenting his teachings, so he would likely express the same contempt towards your slander of Buddha.

craigMellow 1 year ago
@BTNH24 Just checked it. Buddha couldnt have" given the entire discourse refuting God in the Cullavagga.". Do you know why??.. Because The Cullavagga was written after the first and second Buddhist council. Buddha was already long gone by the time the cullavagga was written. "Buddha would most likely express the same contempt towards your slander". I highly doubt that because the Buddha taught to love everyone, even his enemy. and I'm right about him not being against God. I have proof.

BuddhismJodoShinshu 1 year ago 7
@BuddhismJodoShinshu Thanks for the comment. From searching around I realized that this video was talking about the "personal God". The God I was talking about is the "impersonal God" . There's a big difference. According to Mahatma Gandhi, " God is life, truth, love, light, and the supreme good." So in this case, God is real. I sent that video to craigmellow hoping to clear some things up, but he was too busy being rude. and then Btnh24 decided to give me a piece of his mind.
GetDamage 1 year ago
@GetDamage Not knowing what the whole conversation was about,Btnh24 decided to get involved. I have never met a bunch of rude Buddhist followers ever. From searching around, I realized that a lot of Buddhist monks are against "God". Maybe evenangrily towards that idea. I remember reading about the Buddha not caring about God because he thinks it doesn't really matter if there was a God or not. And that he taught to respect other peoples' religions and believes by not going against other religion
GetDamage 1 year ago
@GetDamage
BTNH24 1 year ago
@BTNH24 Basically, he is saying that it doesn't matter what he believes in. Whether he believes in one or not. He gave the people the option to choose on their own. In fact, I think I read that their was a branch of Buddhism that believes in Gods. I am pretty sure. You can google this if you are interested in it. I'm sorry, but I am no longer interested in Buddhism.
GetDamage 1 year ago
@GetDamage But to be fair, I do agree with what you're saying... You can tell that the buddha does not agree with some religions. That's why he said, "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. ..
GetDamage 1 year ago
@GetDamage ... Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
-- Buddha . He didn't want to call out any religion... I think we should respect that.

Buddhist1986 1 year ago
@GetDamage
BTNH24 1 year ago
@BTNH24 You can believe whatever you like. Buddhism transformed into 8 different types after the Buddha's death and spread around East Asia. They all claim to be teaching his true teachings, yet they can't agree on a lot of things. We can sit here an entire lifetime and argue about this, but it's not going to get anywhere... Buddhism was never meant to be a religion, the Buddha was not meant to be worship as God. But the religion will tell you otherwise, and religion is what everyone follows.

The three characteristics of world/universe is
1 Dukka (unsatisfactoryness)
2.Anicca (impermanance)
3.Anatta (No-soul)

BTNH24 1 year ago
@BTNH24 The Dharmapada was the only text that was believed to be the direct teachings of the buddha. It seems like the Tipitaka has different views from what was written in the Dharmapada, The Eightfold Path, and The Noble Truth. Buddha's main concern was to help others end their suffering. That's the path of the Buddha... These other scripts that came afterwards seems to have been written with other purposes in mind, so just keep that in mind. Peace! =)

Also, you're dead wrong about Buddha concerning the union with Brahma. Not once did Buddha ever equate Brahma with Nirvana. Please, read your scriptures before spewing non-sense.

nirvana, meditattion are inner power not external power nor soul.
reincarnation is just like transformation of energy from one form to another form. it's a phenomena not a supernatural power.
waynehyl 2 years ago
But still riencarnation is rebirth which mean "life agian"...come back as a plant or a an animal or a human, thats what my cambodian buddhist girlfriend told me. thats not supernatural? ok what if i said that our soul (consciousness) gets free from our bodies and floats around the earth...as jesus said. we are just energy floating around because we are really consciousness and not bodies? thats not supernatural?. FYI faith, prayer, hope are also inner power.
SudanCarib 2 years ago
@SudanCarib
reincarnation is everyone has to experience. It isn't supernatural, just because you don't discover it. Your faith in whom? pray to whom? still to external power - God! It isn't self-development. Buddhism teaching every being can be Buddha, Buddha means enlightened one, NOT an external superpower body.
waynehyl 2 years ago
of couse its self development...jesus had taught us morals to a good life. faith and prayer is inner power because he taught we are all gods. as said in the scriptures. but we just have a higher authority (god) but we say we are part of him. jesus was also an enlightened one. read the book from deepak of jesus and buddha: story of enlightment! hey either reincarnation or heaven (conscious free). jesus and buddha taught us that we make our own heaven and hell to our suffering.
SudanCarib 2 years ago

there are 3 main categories of Buddhist:
1) believer - just believe Buddhism
2) follower - just follow the religious practice like praying, offering, etc.

But most of the Buddhists we know in this world are of the 1st two categories. they don't even know what Buddha had taught.

U mean God is examining our capability to find a way back to his heaven after creating us?
U mean human beings are in HIS game?

@skr786

ROTFLMAO! yeah right, but Buddhist philosophy what used to explain sub-atomic particle behavior! do your research, I wont do it for you! you are funny though!
craigMellow 2 years ago
BUT Toaism explains it better than buddism because it gave us the idea that we are all connect to eachother, to the earth and to the whole universe! plus every religion connects to science in its own ways. there is islam and science, hinduism and science, christian science, toaism and science and more!
SudanCarib 2 years ago
Thats "Your" view. It is CHATHUSHKOTI logic in BUDDHISM ( Four fold logic) which was used in intrepeting the dilemma of momentum and position of a subatomic particle! This couldnt be explained by Jewish -greko-christian two fold logic.

budda is long dead and dust and no longer maggot food! another false religion created by a man who only taught as a man and died as one too! only problem for him is that he's still dead and hasn't risen at all because everyone dies, but not everyone lives! the same goes to mohammed.

Even buddha died, no god rising again does not make him any greater. but buddha shows us that all of us have to die inevitably!! so deal with it. you are not god and most people are not, so the rule does not apply to you

Buddha didn't reject God he just thought God was a complicated matter.

gods in buddhism is not like god in christian where the gods'll live in heaven for eternal.gods is also a part of the samsara(six) realms and gods will be in heaven for a very long time but it's not eternal because it's part of the illusion as well.enlightenment is the only way for us to escape from this endless cycles of reincarnation.

I have many books on the Buddha and meditation. If God is a concept in the mind than Buddhism will not agree with you...But if you discover your true enlightened nature and see reality directly then God becomes clear and buddhism will agree with you!
MrEddievanhalo 2 years ago
Buddhism was in fact under huge threat from some Brahmin controlled rajput kings and Muslims...
Theres no denial that Buddhism have made a huge impact everywhere even the cruel Mongols who made their enemy hide in trees and behind rocks converted to the glourious teaching of the Buddha..
Buddha does mension God but not as the monetheist religion adresses it but Buddhism adress God different..

Buddha never said nor denied that God existed. He set that question aside. Buddhism can be taken more as a philosophy or way of living.
