  • LOL, you sound like one of those sales people how your talking about it, but your hair looks really good. Well done.

  • Help. Idk to with my fone

  • i am 22 now,i seal and moisturize my hair once a week, sham+cond free sulfate once a week,i take capsules for hair growth, and vitamin c everyday ,i dont use relaxer any more, just blow dry n flat iron once a week,n i do home made treatment like yogurt n egg once every 2weeks,and also when i sleep i use satin hair cover all day all night when i am home but still not growing help me pls

  • @rutha70: try to use almond oil or any other oil as often as possible and also keep ur hair braided..hpe this helps :)

  • i took a day off just to watch all your video,i love ur hair,my hair s very dry,i never knew how to look after my hair,i went hair dresser n said shave your cos ur hair s burned is all rubbish,in 2008 had shaved my hair, last month i start looking after my hair as i felt growing up as a lady

  • hi sister how u doing your hair has grown so super speed, wow u got lots of video,i took a day off from college to see your video,

  • hey kimmay hopefully you see my comment but do you think that it is easier to grow hair longer when it is natural than it is when it is relaxed or texturized?

  • @yokinee1 i'm obviously not kimmay, but i'm fairly certain your hair would grow at the same rate regardless of what you do to it. it would appear much longer straightened than it would otherwise, too. i wouldn't do it personally simply because of the fact it will damage your hair.

  • @infraball yea it took me a while to realize that perm was certainly damaging my hair because it was taking the proteins my hair needed and chemically altering the overall texture of the hair while damaging it. I also think that it is actually very possible to grow when its permed but it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of care because it will still damage hair so you would constantly have to try to repair it with treatments, i'd rather just deal with my hair alone, but it is HARD!!

  • I love her hair! My natural hair is a lot like this girls but it is a lot shorter. My hair is longer when it is straight. This video makes me getting to wantitng to grow my hair out.

  • @KCALism It may also tangle more easily because of it's tendency towards curliness. On the flip side, because of it's delicacy it is more easy to detangle. I myself discovered that my hair grows more than an inch every month (I'm fully black and my hair is tightly coiled, FYI), but it barely grew an inch in ten years because I was flat-ironing all the time, not moisturizing, and barely washing it. Last year my hair was shoulder length. Now, a year later, with proper care, it's mid-back.

  • @KCALism Don't get upset with me for saying this, but I feel like that's an excuse that lazy people use for not wanting to take the time to get to know their own hair. That and the whole "mixed" thing. How fast any person's hair grows is entirely dependent on their health, and their genetics. Black people characteristically have very delicate hair, which can't take as much damage, as an asian person's might be able to. So it requires much more gentle treatment.

  • Im really excited to see how it looks straight

  • sooooooooooooo pretty

  • what the hell did u use btw ve got fine ass hair

  • inspirational! both your hair and toned body i am very much inspired glad i stubled upon ur channel think i can learn a lot as anew natural <3

  • When I look at your hair texture, it doesn't look like the regular texture of "black" hair. Your texture is close to a mixed person's hair texture. Are you of mixed race?

If so, isn't it possible that your hair growth rresults wouldn't relate to a person that has regular "black" hair?

  • @Zisin2day Nope, she's Black. She did the blood test with the National Geographic Genographic project.

  • @Zisin2day Maybe you are only used to seeing improperly cared for regular texture "black" hair. There are tons of uploads by regular "black" girls & ladies with well retained hair on youtube, maybe you should do to search? WL hair is slowly becoming the norm as educated hair choices are made rather than bandwagon hype. Just sayin'....:-)

  • @mrstoya25

Is that what you think black hair is? Uncared for? There is a difference between different textures and being unproperly cared for.

You aren't reading what I asked at all...she has a different texture of hair, meaning that her hair isn't tightly curled or as the mass may say, kinky, so I was wondering if that would affect the way we, as in most black people with the tightly cured hair, see her hair growth.

  • @Zisin2day I asked if the hair you was seeing was improperly cared for, not uncared for, and there IS a difference. I'm saying that hair that is being cared for, but improperly will not be in its best condition. I think you should look at some more photos on sites like fotki to see what I'm saying about well maintained hair on all textures of regular "black" hair. There are more ladies at or close to WL hair, myself included, than I care to count. It just seems like your lens is small...

  • @mrstoya25

I know that. I see it every day. I'm just making the point that it's almost like false advertising if she has a different type of hair, then it won' really relate to people with regular black hair, that's alll.

All I asked was if it was RELATEABLE.

But nvm, I just wanted an answer from the one in the video herself. Nvm.

  • @Zisin2day What is regular black hair??

  • Comment removed

  • @Zisin2day Hair texture and hair growth/length have nothing to do with each other. It's your genetics that determine the terminal length of your hair, not the looseness or tightness of ones curl/coil pattern. Please check out RusticBeauty, Sera2544 or mwedzi here on Youtube, these women have a tighter coil/curl pattern and all have waistlength+ hair. And no, Kim is not mixed.

  • @BurbujasDeAmor

I know, I know, I know all of this. What I want to know is does her experience really relate to people with regular black hair? But just forget it, please. I don't want a whole debate on a simple question.

  • Comment removed

  • @Zisin2day what is "regular black hair"?

  • I am encouraged Kim. Thanks to your great documentation and photos:-)

  • im newly natural i have so many questions...how often do you wash your hair?? what can i do with my twa to help with my growth journey??

  • Is it possible to grow my hair without protective styling??

  • Comment removed

  • whats your hair texture? b/c i think we got the smae hair texture!

  • I have have watched all your videos. I still find my self struggling with split ends. I have searched the web. I truly want to preserve my ends for growth. I can't seem to find a video on avoiding split ends. any suggestions?

  • kimmy, so your technique on stretching hair is basically washing hair normally, and when its wet you braid it and keep it until its dry, and detangle?

  • Do you have any suggestions/techniques to make my hairline thicker and longer? My hairline has always been thin while the rest of my hair is thick.

  • I don't understand how people just dislike the video.

    haters!!!

  • Your hair is beautifull, it have really grown fast. :)

  • love love love!!

  • what does it mean to "relax" your hair?

  • @doakacola To chemically straighten it.

  • What do you think about the whole moisture and protein balance thing? I've been natural for 3 yrs and no matter what I do, my hair isn't preserved. It doesn't seem as if my hair is breaking because I dont have huge clumps coming out when I wash/comb it.. but when i compare the length of my hair over the last 2 yrs there's little to no difference. :( I'm ready to give up.I've been following your channel for over 1.5 yrs, and using your tips.. to no avail. HELP!?

  • How often you trimmed your hair

  • wwooow!! BIG hair growth!

  • Wonderful! This video made me a subscriber. I am officially 100% natural as of this past February 2011. I began transitioning right after my wedding September 2009. I am still new at all of this and prefer to wear my hair straight but I see now that I am going to have to chill on the flat iron if I want to continue my growth. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • BEAUTIFUL, super AWESOME! :)

  • I am excited for my hair to get longer now! Yay!

  • Whats makes this video interesting is the fact that you documented it very well. My hair is also pretty predictable because It's been one year since my BC and my hair overall is 6"-7" long so I can predict that my hair will be 12" all around same time next year. I'm usually on my computer on my wash day to look at youtubers and how they wash there hair just to get me in the mood to wash my hair because I get lazy, and I take pics with my web cam and it's cool when I compare the photos.

  • i loooove your videos..im trying to grow my hair out it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate lol

  • How many years have you been natural?

  • Hi! do you have any advice on how to get in shape because I noticed that you are really in shape and that is how I would like to be for this summer. Can you make a video on maybe your weekly eating/dieting routine? That would be awesome lol

  • WOW!!! that's it...in complete awe

  • Hey Lady!!!!!!! Look at your hair...it has grown so much and I am so happy for you!!!!! Loooove it!!! Let me get caught up on your videos :-)

  • You know you videos are amazing and not just the growth and content but your voice. I really enjoied how articulate you are... Also shows you are your own person. So many Youtubers try to sound the same. I greatly appreciated your video and am now subscribed

  • I am still resting on that basic hair care series. Thank you for providing such wonderful information. It has really made a difference in my hair.

  • hi kim, i was watching your 4th journey video. so you actually havent used "a blow dryer or flat iron" in three years? that's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @LoveBunnies25

It wasn't that difficult for me. :o)

I'm going to create a video soon about hair and personality type. I believe they go hand in hand. Some people find it easy to create a goal and stick to it because they prefer stability & discipline. Others prefer "creativity" over stability, so they may find it more difficult to stick to a routine, because they desire change much often.

So in a nutshell, it isn't that amazing. I naturally gravitate towards stability & discipline. :-)

  • @kimmaytube Well said. I'm the same as you, I don't have to have my hair looking "fly" if I know that having it look plain sometimes will result in my hair being longer and healthier. Alot of my friends refuse to go natural because if their hair isn't fried, dyed and laid to the side, then they're not happy. They don't want to take the time to learn how to take care of their hair and learn how to twist it and wash is correctly. But to each his own. ;)

  • How long have you been growing your natural hair? :)

    It's gorgeous.

  • Hi i just wanted to know what products you used on your hair like leave in conditioners and shampoos and oils. I am newly transitioning and i havent had a relaxer in seven months now!!!! yay I wanted to know what are some good products i can use becasue my hair is thichker at the roots and thinner at the ends to prevent breakage. thanks

  • @bbnne1 Thanks for the information! I was so worried that wetting my dry hair every day or every other and sealing with my leave-in was going to break it after reading that article. On and I'm on the path of trying to figure out my hair porosity. Do you know official signs of high or low porosity levels? Read a couple but still a little iffy..

  • Its great to see this new epidemic of black women going natural.....with-in the next few years, im positive that with this new knowledge of understanding kinky hair....THE MAJORITY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN WILL BE NATURAL, WHICH IN A WAY WILL RE-DIFINE BLACK CULTURE.

  • @arab3515 that is soooo true. i was thinking the same.

  • @anewmeePassion yep, my sister who is in college right now is on the bridge of becoming natural, she already stopped getting relaxers, i think shes just gonna clip hair off slowly over time

  • @bbnne1

Why should she take it out? >_> I didn't mean to notice it. My eyes are just attracted to piercings...

    And shiny things.

  • Hi Kimmay. I'd like to know, do you still trim your hair every 2 months? If so, how much do you cut?

  • So how does it feel comin from lil to no hair ta maximum length in the amount of time that u did it cuz is truley amazing CONGRATS!

  • your channel is awesome i took my hair more seriously after seeing how long your hair is and that olive oil technique saved me keep up the good work

  • Is moisturizing your hair bad? I have dry hair and I took your tip on wetting with water and sealing with the sort of homemade leave-in, and then I ran into some information on over moisturizing which has thrown me off a bit. Care to enlighten? Also does porosity of hair play a part in hair retention?

  • you have a great voice! and lovely hair!

  • SN: Be careful I forgot about my navel piercing and I think one of my shampoos or oils entered the opening and it became infected. I had to remove it.

  • This is so inspiring! When you see somebody else, you think, wow I can do that too!. It just takes time, effort, and patience.

  • WOW!

  • Kimmay, just wanted to say thanks again for posting these video's, your hair is gorgeous! I hope you don't mind, but I share your videos on my FB all the time, just to inspire new naturals and ppl wanting to be natural. You are such an anpiration to me. Have a blessed and wonderful day! Your biggest hair fan :-)..lol

  • @Meisha622

I don't mind it at all. Maybe I should make a video entitled "Sharing on Facebook is welcome and encouraged."

    Thanks.

  • Your hair is beautiful!!! I completely AGREE with cutting damaged ends off strand by strand against a light background. That is the EXACT same method that I use and my boyfriend thinks that I am insane! I've been natural for 2 years 5 months with several haircuts in between and trimming the ends are what promoted healthy strands. I am now at APL with 4a crown / 3c front, back, edges hair. LOVE your videos!

  • how much shrinkage do u get?

  • My husband and I have been watching yr videos and we feel like were in class or sum. Yeah you school'd us! We have learned a whole lot from yr channel. I'm relaxed but yr methods help me when stretching 4-6 mths.

  • Hi Kim, is it possible to do a simple video on what your regimen is? I know all the videos contribute to the overall regimen but it would be good a have a video that brings it all together.

  • Thank you for all your wonderful and informative videos. Your hair is beautiful

  • @Msbeauty341

    Aw, Thanks!! :o)

  • btw Kim, i love the way you think, loool. i have to try harder at acheivin my set goals (just read what u wrote in the description box)

  • OMG!!!!! I LUV your hair length!!!!!! Just getting my natural hair past my colarbone without having to stretch it to see that its at my collarbone would be a start for me. You are a true inspiration Kim and thanks for putting up this vid on my birthday :)

  • How can anyone say they dislike this vid??? Haters, maybe?

  • Great video..Thanks for the update. I started my hair journey 7 months ago and I was getting very discouraged until I found your videos. Your suggestions and recommendations on hair care products and hair managing tips have helped me tremendously!!!! Your hair is beautiful! I want to personally thank you for allowing us into your hair care journey...it has saved me from making even more mistakes..

  • Your belly button is pierced?

Loved how that was the one thing I noticed. XDDDD -is a creeper-

  • @Erioas

omgosh. the things ya'll notice and pay attention to. LOL!

    It's a hair video!

I've had that piercing for 15 years now. I've forgotten about it. I don't even think about it.

See? I'm gonna wear tanks from now on! :o)

  • @kimmaytube I have been transitioning since may. Do you think that cutting my permed ends off will be more beneficial to hair growth and length retention than keeping the permed ends on? Thank you.

  • @Erioas lol i said the same thing. belly button club!!! lol

  • just when you think you've answered all the questions :) kimmay, will you ever do an updated detangling video? i remember seeing one where you detangle pretty quickly in the shower. but, it seems like now you have a new process that takes 4-5 hours? i'd love to see how you do it to keep breakage to a minimum, since that's my main problem (breakage during detangling). thanks for what you do! you look great!

  • You look so fit. I want your workout routine!! :)

Gosh I remember your hair from your very first videos. Incredible growth. You'll have bum length in no time. bon chance :)

  • Wow, I love you Kimmay!!!!

  • OMG whattttttt?!!!!

Kimmy, u r my motivation! wow! I have been going thru my journey for exactly one year now, and was getting discouraged cos it wasn't looking the way i hoped. I mostly wear my hair in weaves/braids cos i'm in med school.....but seeing this?! I really can't wait now! Can't wait to see my hair in its full glory come this summer! That was fantastic!

  • "I go through life setting and achieving goals. :o) Achieving the unthinkable thrills me." Man I love this about you! I am going to pray tonight that I can do the same with weight loss and my hair growth. I want to be a more consistant person.

  • Thanks for your videos and your inspiration. I look forward to seeing your flat iron video. I attempted then got scared and quit half way through due to way too much hair to handle. So I look forward to any helpful tips.

    Thanks again!

  • So, I have been looking at your videos for a couple of weeks and I saw that you also commented on one of Qaadir's videos. You sincerely have such a beautiful spirit that shows from the inside. I absolutely adore you and I wish you nothing but blessing.

  • You are my hair hero! :)

  • You are my hair hero! :)

  • I like your answers in the description box

  • @uniquedupree Thank yoyu for mentioning this

  • luv your video keep them coming.....

  • Very nice! Consistently great, informative videos--definitely one of my favorite subscriptions.

  • I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FLAT IRON VIDEO!!!! My family said that i was stupid for cutting my bsl hair in sept. after a year of transitioning. but they are ignorant!!!

  • Go head, Girl!

Wow, looks like 20 people may be suffering from a severe case of jealousy. LOL (cute!)

  • @brownshuga24 mmhmm. those dislikes were so not necessary. she's not performing or speaking on some controversial topic.

  • @thelivingpoet agreed!

  • Excellent job, Kim! May God continue to bless all your good efforts...

  • You are a top notch professional! I love your videos and you have inspired me for over 6 months. Keep up the good work!

  • Top notch professional! Thanks Kim, you have been truly a blessing to the natural community !!! I love your videos.

  • so i just realized in the description part of this video that you answered most of my questions...now I can stop being a weirdo waiting for the flat iron vid. lol = )

  • @imaMiLFohyes

Thank you for reading it. I spent a lot of time writing it and it makes me HAPPY to know that my time & effort is not completely in vain. lol. ;o)

  • Way to go!! You are my hair inspiration!! Love it!

  • omg, that is amazing how much your hair grew! wow

  • Kim..I have never commented on your board but have followed your channel for the last year or so. I have told so many of my friends about you and how inspired I am by your work ethic and discipline. I agree too that folks shouldn't focus on the dislikes, but I also don't think that has to mean anything more. Ppl are where they are! cud b sincere in their outrage becuz they feel ppl hate on you and they want 2 defend their "real friend"..lol. even tho they dnt know u, some may feel like they do!

  • OMG Kimmay!!! I can't wait for the flat iron video! Thanks for keeping me excited through my own natural hair journey.

  • Awesome retention, kimmay! I'm trying to get on your level chica! I got my game face on for the next 7 months! You said it, girl. Discipline is the name of the game

  • Hello Kim! Your personality is like no other. Not only do you talk a big game. You work hard to show a big game so to speak. That's just remarkable to see. I'm proud to see a Black woman like yourself with such courage. Its truly motivating. Yes we dont know you, but what you show the world, is truly commendable. Thanks for being a force of our my generation!

  • omg you waist is so tiny and great job on your hair journey.Great motivation and i cant wait to see your flatiron pix.

  • wow...my latest my greatest inspiration! xoxoxo

  • Please exxcuse my typos. Got a new netbook and not used to the smaller keys. I meant awe-inspiring

  • Thank you Kim for your awe unspiring growth update! The rate of growth in 7 months is incredible. I also love your conditioner. Well don. I look forward to the next vid when you flat iron.

  • Your hair is beautiful! I like the softly curl in the back of your hair when you wear your up do's. Your hair texture seem to have changed?

    Congratulations!

  • I am truely impressed by your hair journey and your hair results..and as much as i would love to follow your success, i find it almost impossible to moisturize and plat my hair everyday..so i usually wear it in a ponytail, keeping it loose and gelling the sides down..My question is this, can your hair achieve good length over time if you only finger comb it and condition it once a week?

  • I've referred so many people to your channel and I'm now enjoying watching their hair grow as well! Thanks for the inspiration and the information.

  • Go girl keep it up! I do have a question, At any time has your hair been so dry that it was brittle? its in a protective style but its dry and flaky. Yes I use medicated poos and deep conditioner but this winter is a hater on my baby(my hair).

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • Oh wow I meant to say congrats lol. iPad is always auto spelling for me lol.

  • Contests on reaching your goals!! Awesome inspiration as usual :) maybe I should set some hair goals... Hmmm ;) lol. Cant wait to see the flat ironed look!

  • So beautiful! I love what you said about discipline! Something I am wanting to exemplify more in 2011.

  • your incredible kimmay! i so agree with your words, hair growth is PREDICTABLE. i have realized that, i have been going natural for a while, i have actually reached my goal which is the length of your hair now but i plan to keep it going until may now because i am so more inspired. :)

  • wow your hair looks great.

i like the dislike thing. its just a game on youtube to come up with the most creative reason why people dislike the video, and get the most thanks. its fun lol.

  • 16 dislikes 16 jealous people who wish they could do the hard work that kim has done, kim has worked hard, and congrats to kim you are the biggest influence in the natural hair community you are most def qualified thanks for sharing all your knowledge with the world i am truely gratefull.

  • You go girl! :-)

  • Did you ever do a hair regimen video? If not can you?

  • I would love to see how diet and exercise effects hair as well. I know you mentioned it does in one of your previous videos. Are there any books that highlight on this?

  • Congratulations on reaching your goal.

  • Wow. LovE YOUR LENGTH!! Hair looks very healthy.

  • @theatrefilmgirl yes it does!

  • I'm so impressed by the amount of growth you've retained, but seriously people, I like to read comments and all the "OMG x-number of people dislike this!!" is getting to be a bit much, it really takes away from the video and everything else...people are going to dislike things, there's not a single thing in the world that is liked by every single person, and that includes YT videos, so please let's get over it and if you do like it show support instead of focusing on the few who choose not to.

  • @SouthernAndSexy89

Oh gosh, I AGREE with you! Maybe they can't multiply/divide to figure out that 99% of the total ratings are thumbs up. Or perhaps, the fact that I could care less as long as I get my Youtube honors (& *ahem* direct deposit from Google, Inc) ;o)

As far as I'm concerned the ones who point out the number of "dislikes" are most suspect. It's most likely them. I'd bet on it.

It's no different than "fake friends" who can't wait to deliver bad news/gossip to you! :o)

  • @kimmaytube You inspire me. I did the big chop in Dec '09 and up until I found your channel, I had been making a mess of my hair. But watching your videos has helped me get the maximum amount of growth. My hair is now the same length that it was when I first cut it a year ago (so sad) so thanks 1. for the numerous experiments you've done 2. for going so in depth about healthy hair and 3. for sharing your hair journey; I feel like I can relate better because I could actually see the results:)

  • @kimmaytube, To say "they can't multiply/divide" might be a bit harsh. I think most people are wondering why someone would "dislike" this. I don't know, maybe becasue I just like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I enjoy your videos and your hair growth is amamzing!! I always look forward to them.

  • This is like my 4th time watching...I just can't believe you went from between BSL to waist length in less than one year. I am really hoping I have similar progress. I am gonna buckle down and get really really serious about this.
