Very nice mandolin -- the pickguards were not tortoise shell however but a very early form of plastic --probably a celluloid. You should find a March 1909 patent imprint in the lower corner.
Yours is was made after 1921 because it has the truss rod. I can see the finish is original and its in nice shape -- congrats.
