wankers... do not sign up to this piss poor service, bad connection, low internet speeds, bad interference... anything but this... read up on the complaints this service has received on the intenet
Oh Yes - Good old OfCom have struck again-they state on their website as at 31 March 2011 "On the evidence, Ofcom has not so far found that there is a breach of the EMC essential requirements. Ofcom has therefore decided against taking further enforcement action at this time"
But the ICO has forced them to reveal the results of tests instructed by OfCom in September 2008 (2.5 years ago) which clearly show that Comtrend devices fail the required EMC standards by 39dB ie 8000 times the limit FAIL
@6KlingonsRarelyDrop Yep, you only have to listen to this and view any of the other videos posted here to understand how compliant with EMC essential requirements (must not prevent any other equipment from operating as intended) these &*&%^* things are.
I had these things. One: they didn't work well at all, kept dropping the connection. 2: They totally screwed my radio reception with a horrible screeching racket. I had been listening to the BBC world service/Deutsche Welle every day for years. Got these heaps of junk, game over. Sent em back asking what the hell they thought they were playing at, supplying jamming devices posing as 'adpaters'. Hrrumph.
BT is recalling ALL the PLT adapters they supplied made by Comtrend, citing a safety issue. The recall appeared only three days after the ITU Recommendation on PLT interference maximum levels... The adapters BT are using to replace them hide the pollution until the adapters are used, Lee Talbot of BT Vision Complaints wrote, "While customers are watching video-on-demand services the adaptors will be in normal power mode and emissions will be the same as the earlier models of Comtrend adaptor."
@billiepipersteeth would you be saying that if you needed the coast guard to rescue you? who can't respond due to noise on there radio's. Remember you can't use mobile phones in places that require long distance HF bands. It's not just Coastguard affected - it's mountain rescue, search and rescue, military, and many many more emergency or vital communications being affected.
@billiepipersteeth Do you realise that even this low power signal (attached to one of the largest antenna networks possible) is capable of travelling around the earth at the peak of the sunspot cycle. Radio ham's are not making this up, there not fighting this entirely because the hobby is being killed off by naivety but because eventually lives will be lost too. Also many of the bodies that suffer from this are unable to fight this publicly due to control by the government directly or by proxy.
i use powerline so that i can hear german radio in my room. i need it to study. without it, i will probably not get the grade i need to get into uni. now i think going to uni is more important than crappy shortwave, which btw has been long superceded by the internet.
nobody is against you going to uni or using the internet the problem is that this type of device which transfers data over unsuitable and unscreened power cables causes interference turn this around and imagine that the interference was causing you difficulty in talking to your friends in germany on ham radio or preventing you from listening to german broadcast radio.this technology either needs to be improved so that it does not interfere or replaced with tried and tested such as wireless link

Complain, its always tthe damn way. What your saying is that a product designed to transmit something we call the 'Internet' should be banned because it interfears with your outdated radio transmissions. Sad, sad people.
So you are saying that it's OK to wipe out one part of the spectrum, but not another? Not a very democratic reply.
These devices have only really been a problem for the last 12-18 months since BT started heavily promoting them as part of their Vision package.
Why is having the products tested sad? The manufacturers make claims to comply with EU standards, and the products catagorically don't. Hey! Why not allow exploding PSU's onto the market and do away with standards totally?
My family personally have BT Vision, which granted to you is where we discovered the adapters existed, but we also own a further adapter for the other end of the house. Which we purchased off ebay and without it that end wouldn't have internet access.
Finally, if they were to blow up surely that would help you.
i got a bt voyager 105 modem. But i cant connect my games console to it cos it dont have enough ports. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a bigger one without having to pay more monthly?
As the video states. If your in the UK contact Ofcom, if not contact which ever department is responsible for your local radio spectrum. It is transmitted interference and therefore it contravenes national and international bandplans.

As an academic expert in the field of signal processing and radio communications, I highly endorse the PLAs supplied with the BT vision service.

@m1dlguk I live in Leamington Spa. Do you think there are many PLAs in use along Britain's beaches then?

If it wiped out the FM band completely, would that be acceptable to you?
Regarding radio being out-dated - 9/11 emergency service comms were down & hams set up emergency nets. Boxing Day Tsunami, hams set up comms.
When your Internet goes titsup and your mobile network dies, we still have worldwide comms.
I've had these things tested and DO NOT comply with UK EMC law and should not be on the market. .
BTW, if you want to patronise, at least get your spelling right, N00b

If the FM band went no it wouldn't be acceptable, But people would actually care as its not just 42 year old people that use it.
Also in terms of 9/11 if the shortwave worked with no problems why do you need to complain about the adaptors.
In terms of internet and mobile networks going titsup, i have no knowledge of how shortwave works so i'll keeps quiet with that one.
As far as having them tested goes it just emphasises my point about you all being sad.
Also "tthe" was just a typo.
