jimmy .. the xampp opens as a disk even before it was in the app folder .. is that okay?? does that mean it over writed the built in apache files or does that link to the xampp server as a link ?? and is that why there r security issues with it because it networks us to the xampp server?

and lets say User typed "TEXT" in the TEXTAREA and CATEGORIZED it with the DROP-DOWN-LIST OPTION called "OPTION1". After he hit the SUBMIT Button, I would like that his "TEXT" is saved in the

MYSQL TABLE under FIELD "OPTION1".

Php is basically a web programming language. Slightly better than that is cascading style sheets, which give you tons of options on how to arrange a website, but it's still not a web programming language. Languages like php and java-script give you ability to use programming concepts with a html page.

You should start learning HTML before you start learning PHP. PHP is optional. HTML is a markup language that specifies the format of a web page. PHP is a programming language that operates on servers. Any web browser will run HTML code, PHP only runs on servers. Any text editor can create HTML pages.

@osiris1503 I believe when you save your files, you give it a name, and under the file type, you have to specify "All files" which will get rid of the .txt bit after the file.

@caydnlofton go to xampp folder and click control panel, check if a green highlighted box is beside apache saying running, if it isn't the press start. If it blinks start and then says busy do a do a port-check, and check if all ports for apache is free, if it isn't than a program is using a port.

The Apache package on Debian has PHP as a dependence (actually most distributions do) so there is no need to use xampp. Perhaps, xampp is more useful for Windows users, but using the proprietary Windows operating system to use Apache is just silly, you should use a Free Software operating system with Apache seeing as -- not only -- is Apache designed for it, but you are also free to make changes to the operating system that you might see necessary. And you just can't do that with Windows or Mac.

I would just like to say that learning PHP on youtube is cool and all and there ARE some really neat tutorials, but If you ever felt that you wanna learn all of it quick, Simplephp is a complete guidebook to the php language in an e-book form. It takes all the useful information and displays it then goes on to the more complicated fancy stuff. Good php programmers can make like 125$ an hour so why not learn it and make the money yourself! I can't open PHP files with localhost. I don't fully understand what the root folder is. My OS is on harddrive E: and my xampp folder on C:. Does that matter? The phpmyadmin index.php file opens correctly, but when I change the address to another folder (with an index file in it) that file won't show
