I really don't like that crowds start cheering throughout the song. Makes me think of opera and classical pieces. People there know there is reverence for a song. It is ok to cheer, but stop drowning out the artist. It may not be my favorite, but I like this rendition.
Not a fan, I have to say, Love the song, but it should be a celebration; I've never heard anything so dire. I was waiting for it to speed up and for the trumpet to kick in, and it just didn't!
@everythinglive "When the saints" is just a song that's better suited to big bands, and Jazz, it's usually the sort of song you could dance to, not the sort of song you could fall alseep to, Just think old bruce should stick to rock and roll, he's no Louis Armstrong.
@jacobandvicki i can agree that louis did it better and it IS better suited to jazz . but today i found out i lost 2 friends and i'm glad i found this version to post in honor of their memory. It does seem strange to be using a song i usually associate with joy as a funeral piece but its some how very appropriate
I do believe that there is a power beyond us , that we can not control . But i also think that there are different verisons of that grat power ,. I really find this verison beautiful ; I like it better than the original :)
For You There is No God. At least not right now. But there is Hope For You and it's Not too late. One Day You will Stand Before The Great Almighty King God Jesus and You Shall Kneel before Him. Either out of Respect or because your Knee Caps Shall be Shattered! Regardless, You Will Bow and you Will Proclaim His Name as King of Kings. Lord of Lords. Praise The Name of Jesus, The Son of The Living God, For Lord I care NOT If I am last in line, But I too want to be in that Number!
@xieh000 what do you mean by "the singer" do you mean all of them or just the ones in the video.... surely you cannot mean ALL singers because there will be quite a lot of them who are pretty bad...
I saw Bruce do this version at the '06 N.O. Jazz Fest ( 8 months after Katrina) and it was hard to find a dry eye at the Fairgrounds that day. ALSO, the N.O.Saints were drafting Marques Colston with the 252nd pick in the 7th round at the same time . Talk about an omen!
Well I as a atheist just can't find beauty in anything spiritual. Sorta like how Ray Charles couldn't find joy in writing his music he new he'd never "see".
I also have no clue what I believe in but I think song is super as well. Amazing Grace is also one of my favorite songs of all time, check out Arloe Guthrie's version of it. Where some of us need alcohol or some sort of huge event in our lives to emote, these people can do it because of faith. In a way I am envious. Much love towards em all. Peace man

It's great how Bruce finally brought this song back to the deep, soul-nurturing number it's supposed to be, as opposed to the marching band/French Quarter rape of the tune.
When Bruce FIRST introduced this song, at the 2006 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest he made the comment, "there are at least a dozen people on thses grounds right now that can do this better than me... but I'm going to take a turn."
This version is triumphant! But I would suggest that even The Boss would disagree with your perspective on the song in general.
