(Bloody 'Studio 54' was no competition to ANY half-decent UK Soul club in any case, as it was mere vehicle for non-Soul celebrities like Bianca Jagger, Rod Stuart etc. to show off in!) Typically this so-called "poll result" was based entirely on membership numbers - as if that had any bearing on musical quality!

In Oxford St last month Schuh the trainer shop devoted their window display to "Northern Soul"a 60's obsession .

A rubbish telly, two worn out arm chairs, pictures of Quadrophenia, some plastic scooters, Stafford Top Of The World Posters c 85 and half a late 70s Soul Bowl list

You've got to feel a bit sorry for Russ, He is asked that classic - almost impossible to answer to everybody's satisfaction - question, "What is Northern Soul?" His explanation is complete in 20 seconds flat. In reality, his response probably lasted for several minutes, but it was edited down so heavily that any casual One Show viewers would have been left completely mystified (assuming that they were even vaguely interested)
