Well, how did I miss this one. Love her giggle, had me going as well. Saw a ton of micro turnings this last weekend at the AAW show and can not wait to make some things for my daughters doll house (while she is still into that kind of thing)
Do u turn pens? There is a pen exchange getting started on Sawmill Creek Forums under the turners forum. Thanks for the excellent instructional videos. Don't stop:>)
Great video Carl , I will have to make one for my daughters doll house. I made her several miniature lamps for her on the lathe, this will make a good addition .
Hi Carl, Great video & fine project. I was feeling a little down when I saw this latest vid. I thought, well, Carl always comes up with the goods. Then I heard your little one laughing in the background, she has a wonderful chuckle & made me feel so much better. Move over Carl, there's a new superstar waiting in the wings. Please give her a big hug from me for making me smile.
Yep. I finally had the machinist come over so he can make a part for the tailstock. He said the collet i have is a 3/4" standard form and it's an R8. I have to pick up a new one tomorrow. He agreed that it's a really good machine. I'm going to find a bolt that will fit into the chuck i'm using and the slide into the collet. He can fine tune the threads on the bolt and the end that goes into the collet.
Nice little vase, Carl. Is that a 1/2" pin chuck, or 3/8"? Also good to hear and almost see your little visitor drop by. I just picked up a couple of morse taper collets for turning dowels for making spinning tops. We had a demo of doing them a little differently than I've done before. I might try to make a pin chuck to use with the collets, too.
@haydenHD I tried the 1/2" collet yesterday and it worked real well, held the dowel tight. It's just a collet with 3/8"-16 threads. I used a piece of all-thread to go through the headstock and then put a wood block, washer and wing nut on to tighten it up. It held it very well. I think it would do well with a pin chuck of the right size. I've also got a 3/8" collet and they (The Little Machine Shop) carry a number of different sizes.
love your kids laugh.

What beautiful wood Carl. If you don't mind me asking, "What type of finish in the pint jar were you using for your friction finish there?"
Also, a great way to enjoy time with your daughter?
