This is a Hell of a mess. People need to think, you will be told anything when it comes to MONEY being made. People are expendable :-( . Why build something that could blowup in our faces one day and cause distruction to many people or our children's children one day. FIND ANOTHER WAY!!!!!!!!! PUT SICENCE TO FULL ACTION.
Three Mile Island was CREATED. It happened 12 days after the multi-million dollar blockbuster CHINA SYNDROME was released. No problem before or since on that scale, then BA-BOOM, predictive programming highly-marketed mega-movie followed by (manufactured) reality. Result, nuclear power was sullied and soiled, while oil was made to keep hold and benefit the entrenched big oil interests. Wake up.
@33rdPatriot your fuckin crazy, i agree money rules all, but chernbyl n now fukashima, shit aint safe just cheapER, then others, the movie [part i stilll dont get..
Neuclear is in my opinion the best energy option, despite chernobyl. Which had they not cut corners while building the core would have never happened. Also they've learned much from chernobyl the same would never happen again. Honestly I would give anything to be working a job in one of the control rooms. I think that would be the coolest job ever. That much power at your fingertips. Simply Amazing.
some "radioactive waste and debris shipped off site to be stored." Stored where? And for how long? What other people are at risk? Solar power is the way - ah, but you can't tax the sun, that's why it's taking so long...
considering it was basically the first commercial nuclear accident in the US, i think they did a great job handling the situation and luckily their was basically no impact on the environment or peoples health, unfortunately the same cant be said about Chernobyl
Wikipedia says "in the Three Mile Island event in 1979, a theoretical person standing at the plant property line during the entire event would have received a dose of approximately 2 millisieverts (200 millirem), between a chest X-ray's and a CT scan's worth of radiation. This was due to outgassing by an uncontrolled system that, today, would have been backfitted with activated carbon and HEPA filters to prevent radionuclide release." This wasn't a big deal.
Remember Chernobyl? That could have happened here. I'm from MA & I remember Three mile Island. Scared the hell out of me. I did a virtual film the other week on Chernobly. It's a machinima film on an exhibit of photographs taken this past April 09 by a young kid from France he went there w some of his friends & went thru the town there that is now a ghost town not to mention almost the whole region surrounding it. They better rethink this nuclear energy rl well. We could c another disaster.
Statements requiring comment: (1) "to this day there is debate whether or not anyone's health was affected by the TMI accident." Multiple independent studies by government & others have been done. There is absolutely no credible data suggesting anyone's health was affected. (2) "a complete core melt down would have made this area uninhabitable for decades" This is untrue - the containment systems are designed to handle a 100% core meltdown & other more serious hypothetical accidents.
What systems are going to contain radiation spread outside the reactor. The radioactive isotopes will leave via gases and spread through out the area through the air. Chernobyl being a great example of that.
hahah TMI lol

@33rdPatriot - Agreed, it was all a plot by the oil companies to keep us dependent.

@jcorley2710 Yeah I agree with you on that nuclear is the best energy option at this time until we figure out other means.
I wish I could get a job as an operator in the control room but my mathematics skills suck big time. Frustrating really.

environmental protesters don't know that though.....
i still don't get whats the beef with atomic energy....yes it produces radioactive waste..
yet so does the coal power-plants,which releases countless amounts of mild radioactive waste into the air known as "fly ash"

no it never could, unless hell freezes over.
3 miles" had a containment facility, Chernobyl did not.
