"What could offer more control than that?"
Hello Wii Remote
I don't even have a (working, thanks overheating 1995 model) PS1 anymore, but I've still got one of these dual analogs with the box because it was such a good controller with the longer grips, and in theory, it's supposed to be pretty rare.
i know right,, the ONLY thing i hate from playstation is the high prices for ps1 classics,, i mean come on resident evil1 (hard ass game) for 10 bucks i can see mgs1 for that much but re1 is expensive as well as the 6 dollar others too,, if they were like 3 bucks id buy all of them,, but man it just seems expsnsive since yu can get soo many better ps2 and even a cpl ps3 games for the same price
stop being a retarded Sony fanboy! How about we all respect ALL of the consoles? damnit! I'm sick of you little imature kids! PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are all good consoles!
That'd be a bad move, I've never been able to use ANY analog sticks comfortably apart from those on the PS controller, for me personally the 360 controller is just as tragic as the one on the Original Xbox.
Well, not strictly like xbox, those controllers have these extra bumps inside and the round thumb indents are smaller. This one here looks fine as it fits to the entire thumb.
Still, I can agree because having none makes it easier to move it around due to it raising up to touch your thumb.
I see what you mean, did you have one of these controllers? I whipped mine out today, the only game i really needed it for was Ape Escape, but hell my thumbs were significantly smaller back then lol. The grroves are fine, the traction just isnt as balanced as the DualShock. As for that green LED mode.. well i never really had any flight games apart from Warhawk, was disappointed to see it didnt use it.
i remember these. preferred the analogs on the dualshock controller that come later though, as the plastic on these had virtually no grip and your thumbs would just slide off.
I got one of these bad boys very soon after they were released in the U.S., since I'd been following it in PSM for months and months prior. I was upset that they omitted the vibration from the U.S. version, but regardless, this controller made Croc, Rally Cross and a host of other 3D games a breeze and a blast to play.
Ah, the memories! I was so PSYCHED back in the day when I got this controller!
I still have one of these actually... in some ways I liked it better than the dual shock. It's a bit bigger, which is kinda hard to tell in the video, but it's nice. Not so many hand cramps. ;)
Do not forget that the Nintendo 64 was the first to have this innovation with the Stick in addition to the Rumble pack. A great example is best platform game of all time Super Mario 64.
Leave it to Nintendo to innovate and for others to follow. Also, my opinion is not meant to be flame bait, just my opinion. But true gamers know the facts.
Exactly, then nerdy Microsoft stuck their nose in and desperately tried to make gaming revolve around the internet, because they know its the one thing they wont get crushed at. Casual gaming will never be the same thanks to their ignorance.
I remember getting one of these right when they came out cause I needed a new controller. It was amazing then and the design is still amazing to this day. Playstation, imo, since the old Analog controller and the Dual Shock, has had the best controller design out there. Hey, they've use it for all three systems and they really haven't changed a thing, simply because, you don't mess with perfection.
It's the distance you must push a joystick before the controllers records the change. It doesn't matter in platformers or RPGs since they don't require as much precision, but in FPS game, it's really a hassle. I've been killed countless times while playing BattleField 2 online just because of the joysticks.
So far, the only controller which had a suitable deadzone to me was the 360's.
Hehe it sure would be. Still, I could rack up about 70 kills every games when I got to play BF2 on 360. Only because of the joysticks. Then I went back on PS2 and I was like "Wow, why am I even playing this?"
It also depends on the game. I've played both Call of Duty and Killzone 2 on my PS3. Although I feel the controls for the former are comfortable, Killzone 2 was unplayable to me (they have/are releasing a patch to enable "precision aiming"; pfft).
"Dual Analog Controllers" as they were called were sold for a short time before being replaced by the Dual Shock Analog Controller in 1998. They are quite rare and collectable at this point of course.
lol...i remember when this came out and was boxed in with my playstation when i expected the other one. I HATED IT!! lol...refused to use the damn sticks. Now i could never imagine being without them. ....TOTALLY loved croc and crash, fun video I lose these flashback videos they hold my teen years in their hands.
Will this work with all ps1 games??

Why did they dump the concaved analog sticks?

@sayhellorosco Because convex is significantly better and more comfortable.

compare sony's first analog sticks to the current day xbox360's analog sticks and notice how they are both not outward or rounded unlike the ps3's
it seems M$ is living in the past..

FPS anyone?
Today we take it for granted.. no controller can not be less then 2 sticks to be a great one.
By the way, TODAY with PS3 even the D-Pad is Pressure sensitive, so now Every button is pressure sensitive, except select and start.
I tink it was like this since PS2
NoxNoctisUmbra 2 years ago
If I recall correctly the d pad on the dualshock 2 for ps2 was digital only.
gamemaster14neo 2 years ago
Hmm I have to disagree there. PS2's joysticks aren't really suited for FPS's. The deadzone is way too great.
Rovelius 2 years ago
what is the dead zone?

agreed although i cant stand analogs for 1st person shooters. would be great if i could hook up my razer deathadder mouse to a ps3 or 360.

I wouldn't know because I haven't played any PS3 game to date. However, I do remember the controls on Killzone 1 being completely horrible.
The only FPS games on PS2 which I thought aiming wasn't so bad was the TimpleSplitters games, Area 51 and Urban Chaos.
Rovelius 2 years ago
I had one of those the first day it came out. Now I seriously regret getting rid of it. Those are really hard to come by now.
