  • What about "hey farmer bob, I know how to sew, how about I trade some clothes for some food?" It is a bit of a stretch to say "as soon as electricity stops we all need to go kill people and steal their farms and learn how to farm." Society existed quite fine without electricity for thousands of years. Sure some of us would learn new trades, but that's just life as usual.

  • @andiWILLwanderon millions will die. i guarantee it. city people are fragile even if we won't admit it.

  • ill i gotta say is this ---> watch?v=6gKlBGjDbfI  ..

  • our technology can go byby in an instant with solar flares, EMP bursts from us or them, and the FCC chips in everything electronic are setup to disable upon receiving the right signal. learn to survive without technology anyway you can. search trap making, gardening, shelter building and REMEMBER how to doit after watching it. Dont just save it to look at in bad times unless its on a custom shielded/modded ipod with wikipedia loaded into it with a roll out solar panel - that may survive...

  • That is the failure of the capitalist system.

    Take that suckers!

  • i would love to use that lighter to lite my bong up

  • What the journalist fails to note, is that society was this way before. We have lived without electricty. True it would be difficult in modern times. But what we have is knowledge. With smart minds getting together, electricty can be brought back using alternative means.

  • Fuck it, when the shit hits the fan ill be a raider and looter

  • I love the way he says all the city people will go into the country side and STEAL. Food, shelter, whatever. News flash folks, won't happen. Country people stay supplied with food, fuel and most importantly guns and ammo. Sorry you city people are so inept, helpless fools. But, that will get you little sympathy from us. You think we won't have heard about the collapse of civilization? Really. This guy would get blown away back @ 3:00. Don't listen to this clown, his is advise will get you killed

  • ................ DAMNIT!...

  • WOW, just...wow. Yep, better prepare and pray to God we don't all DIE. I am being sarcastic but seriously, PRAY and prepare.

  • i think id be ok without power but if my pc didnt work id be screwed.

  • where i live its just like that...except for the internet...

  • Im going to buy a plough. Its the only way.......

  • Sounds like the only way to live comfortably (or at all, if you don't have the right skills) in that situation is with a machinegun or ten.

  • would it be possible for you to notate the name of the documentary you extracted this from? would love to view the whole thing if possible. thnx.

  • @d00m0racl3 nvm, i did some searching & found a great collection of mr Burke's videos, those also interested can look up the jamesburkeweb channel here on youtube.

  • He's forgetting one thing... what if I already knew how to produce my own electricity!! ...I mean... I don't... But it'd be good info to look up now while I can!

  • @VitaminTMan alot of info on it on the web. get yourself plans, schematics which show you how to make a wind powered electric generator. its pretty ez actually, good luck to ya, but i'd advice you to get the hell out of city living enslavement & become independant while you still have time.

todays "civilized world" is trully believes they can cope w/catastrophies. seems we never learn, have you people in usa forgotten about Katrina so quickly?

  • @d00m0racl3

A very good point. Being in such tight-knight and (relatively) well-run societies gives us such a false sense of ability! "Ohhh, look at me, I have a Master's degree and am good with computers and am trendy and attend cocktail parties!" But can you make a fire without a match or lighter?! Probably not. Survivalism: Among the most practical and worthwhile hobbies there is!

  • @VitaminTMan TRUE. Starting a fire without matches or lighter fluid is challenging, but it is kinda fun!

  • @d00m0racl3 People naturally don't learn. it take a few times "repeating things" to get it into ones skull/mind. Oh, and television has turned people into brainwashed zombies.

  • Critical mass of any population of animal will, and history shows this true for humans repeatedly, collapse to the carrying capacity of the landscape. Who decided that the wisdom of our ancestors was nothing more tha the ramblings of "dirty savages"? When it comes to the law of nature, there is NO COMPROMISE.

  • Its actually quite obvious as to why they had riots in just two days... in more civilised countries, or indeed in the country itself, I am sure riots would not be the initial outcome..and people in the 70's were a lot less interested in their environment and things around them...it was a very selfish time...

  • @mediamaker How old are you? First off, the riots didn't happen in NY because they were desperate to survive as a result of discontinued resources, it was a reaction to the social climate they were in. Have you ever lived in a third world ghetto in what was at the time the richest country in the world? They had an opportunity to get what they could not before and went crazy. I'd beg to differ that ppl today in the US would be civilized. We can't even hold doors for one another now.

  • @funkyladybean I guess what you andI said are along similar lines - that the area where this happened was not a civilised part of the country - exactly - a third world ghetto - and given that security was compromised, their reaction was to loot - no respect even for the belongings of their own neighbours. I guess what you are saying is that it has not improved in the last 30 years. I was in my 20's and living in Australia.

  • brought to you by john deere plows. when all else fails, you can count on that plow

  • Comment removed

  • this guy has got some bushy eyebrows

  • That guy's one good plow salesman.

  • With all due respect, my fellow citizens don't have a clue how to survive on their own. With military training, I 'll give those people anywhere from a week to a month and half the people will be dead, dying and desperate.

Still think the right to possess firearms is an antiquated concept?

We'll find out soon enough, won't we?

  • You can farm with out a plow, its called permaculture.Where you use methodes like forest gardens, raised beds and no dig garden.

  • Obviously done in the '70s as a scare tactic. He reminded me of the croc. hunter, a lot of hype and little substance. In WW2 60% of all food consumed in the US was grown in urban gardens, mostly without plows. Creating community is more important to survival than just running to the country and hoping to find an abandoned farmhouse. It always amazes me that we don't show how people banding together in the cities have made it quite well through disasters. Instead we show scary pictures.

  • @woodswoman783 You are a bit optimistic in my opinion.

  • I won't deny it.;-) But what did I write that made you think I was a bit optimistic? I actually think that this video is a bit optimistic because no way is a city person going to walk out into the country and find oxen just waiting for them to hitch to a plow.;-) I have trained oxen-with the hard work put into them, no farmer is going leave one behind. It just seems to me to be a silly little video that is meant to scare people who like to be scared. Fear is a fun adrenaline rush.

  • I think the point of the vid is to illustrate how systems dependent we have become and when that system breaks down just how helpless most of us will be. I agree most wholeheartedly on that.If the electricity went off for good tommorow most people in america would probably die.I think you are optimistic to think people in cities would band together in that scenario. I think they would loot and kill each other. We are a far different society than we were in the depression.

  • I'm going to come off a selfish with this. I don't like it when survivalists tell people to move out to the country to survive. I live in the country and I don't want more people out here. When city people move out here they bring their city problems with them. So, because I want them to stay in the city I encourage them to try to fix things there instead of running away and bringing their problems here. We country people are pretty well armed and we can be crotchy.;-)

  • So, with that in mind, the media loves to show us the bad things that happen in a disaster. Looting brings more ratings than showing people working together. In NO after Katrina many of the old neighborhoods banned together and did armed patrols, set up bartering centers, took care of each other, and all without electricity. People do ban together, we have seen it. It's just that we see more looting because fear gives ratings and the media would rather have good ratings than show truth.

  • Well i can understand that. But the real threat is the developers that buy up cheap land, carve it into lots and sell them to make a fortune. That type of city dweller is truly clueless about country life and the first thing they will do is tell you you cant have livestock or do this or do that.

  • You know it. Before the finacial collapse we had to fight yuppies making rules all the time. Since the collapse they've all moved back to the cities to be close to their families. For me, the finacial collapse was a good thing. I've bought the land surrounding me to keep more people out. Keep the city people in the cities and have them fix the cities up. If they come out here, the country will start looking like the city.

  • Great!. Te big problem here in recent years has been the land prices going way up and the locals have been priced out of the market.Even the amish have been priced out and cant get farms.I hate to see subdivisions built on good farm land

  • It probably stems from a basic distrust that people have for each other nowadays.

  • That's not what happened in 2003, when there was an even bigger blackout then 1977. Interesting video though.

  • Having played Fallout and Fallout 2 I am more than qualified to survive in the event of a freakin blackout thank you. Tag small guns, unarmed, and repair.

  • Great video, thanks! Wish more new survivalists understood that cities will be death traps when something happens.

  • At about 3:40 he would receive a blast of buckshot.. maybe with a warning first, maybe not. Or he would become a slave on the farm IF the farmer needed one. Don't mess with rural folks, we will have ZERO sense of humor in dealing with you, and what's ours is ours, not yours!

  • AMEN ...

  • In the country there are dogs, guns, fences and neighborhood watch. Those are formidable challenges for thieves to overcome..... at their own peril.

years ago when my city neighborhood was "blessed with drug dealers", I sold my house and bought a little house ten miles from the nearest city.

That's a long way to walk. If everything goes to hell, the neighbors will see any strange cars and prepare a defense. All country folk I know are stocking up on ammunition, strictly for defense of course.

  • Funny, out in my rural area we once lost power in the dead of winter with snow and ice for 11 days, no looting, no riots.. but then we ARE over 90% WHITE. And BTW white rice does not "go bad" neither does sugar, honey, salt, wheat, etc

  • @7pt62manNW thank god for hillbillies!

  • @7pt62manNW

People in rural areas will be more self-sufficient and spaced out. That would be why your poxy backwater didnt have a riot , which is a shame because we need less racist fuckwits like you around.

  • @7pt62manNW

    Yep, I can relate.

We were with out power for 3 weeks, and still no rioting or looting.

I will shoot the first man to lay a hand on my hen house without my permission......

  • @7pt62manNW i suppose you didn't see the white people rioting and looting in any video ever showing rioting and looting. racist hillbilly

  • @7pt62manNW Fucking Racist.

  • @7pt62manNW

Do you eat rice white ghost? White ghosts don't attack and loot Asians?

  • @7pt62manNW

Oh and you're white bread, not white rice you stupid anus-faced white ghost. White bread decays after a few days, so no thanks.

  • @SeventhSun wonder bread turns green in 3 minutes.

  • @7pt62manNW white rice may not go bad, but its bad for your health. Sceintifcly, everything or at least most white foods are bad for your health,... j/s

  • Woo hoo, we're setting ourselves up for failure :D

  • fuck the plough im goin cannibal when it happens

  • the amish do it

  • going to need alot more then most people think, i will mainly rely on my firearm and not living in the damn city, did you see all the blacks looting? they would cut you to pieces to get your food, water, weapons, shelter' what ever it takes.

  • funny - plow in front of cows... walking up to an (unknown) farm... this guy wouldn't last a minute. first off, the farmers would have shot his ass before he got within 100 feet of the house. BTW: seed are good, but WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO EAT WHILE THE SEEDS ARE GROWING? and then, when all the starving people see your garden, how do you keep them from raiding it? what will stop them from killing YOU. Firewood? yup, let all the starving folks know EXACTLY where you live. smart.

  • Clever thinking. However, you can store rice in a couple of 5 gallon buckets and they'll last up to 20-30 years before "going bad". You should check search for vids using these keywords:

mylar bags, oxygen absorbers, white rice.

All vids on this subject are really helpfull. I've now got 2 buckets of rice, 1 filled of salt and sugar, one I filled with macaroni, and the last one is a bucket of dogfood (I dont want to see my dogs starving to death in a crisis-situation...

    Just a suggestion

  • good points, youd have to get your buddies together and arm up and hold down a spot, i have such a plan

  • I have a preparation template and supply list available thanks to our Veterans. If anyone wishes for a copy just message me.

  • love how the plow is hooked up in front of the steers.

  • head to the coast.. go fishing.. grow herbs, pick mushrooms and wild berries :-) looking forward to it. screw the plow lol

  • We have summer cottages by the lakes and fields. Water is pure enough to drink from the lake and we've been teached about farming and agriculture and nature since 7yo. Most of our summer houses don't have electricity. We'd be fine here in Finland. But what is the most important thing we are calm and intelligent and we care for one another , even the strangers.

  • dont want to burst your bubble but u need to get that water from about 40 - 60 feet down in order to avoid montezuma's revenge. surface water is risky

  • fuck i've got some changes to make to my Zombie Apocalypse plan an is it just me or does this guy bum the plow a bit too much

  • lo!l

  • Mine's designed around not having technology. When I have a home of my own, I'll be having a shed full of gardening supplies and seeds, firewood, and other survival things. I'm that cool.

  • i had to watch this in physics class and i thought it was alright but my classmates hated it?guess they dont think its "cool"at least we didnt have to do another macuk lab lol!

  • hehe a horse and cart

i realize its just a cultural difference but its funny

  • My Name Is BillBlaze.....I Was Born On That Day.....Real Talk.....Im A Speacial Baby.....Im Spiritual.....Im One Of The Chosen Ones.....I Was Born On A Day Of Kaos And Darkness

  • Hah. It's good to live in a rural area when the power fails you.

We had a 5 day blackout in one area of Newfoundland, Canada. It really wasn't that bad.

It would be difficult to keep everything under control for a longer period, if not impossible...

    Interesting to think of.

  • This is narrated by a great guy called James Burke in a tv series called "Connections" Torrent it.

  • Very good video. Shows how much of our comfortable lives depends on technology: all of it.

  • james burke's connections. sorry, but you could at least credit what you've uploaded.

  • Hey Awakened

You say your ex miltary....what do you know that which is not far off?

    I'm interested

  • The avg person knows nothing of self reliance and sustainability and are unprepared to go maybe 1 week at most if SHTF and things shut down.... You think a gun will allow you to steal what you need? Thats a good way to get killed. Lawlessness is not acceptable, learn how to survive, prep, hunt, provide security, etc. Take it from some of us ex military...... and you better learn fast because the things that are coming are not that far off.....

  • good thing I bought that oliver competition plow

  • Coming soon to a city near, oh, not near, this is it folks! You can expect this to be your life soon. But that farm won't be empty. They will be well armed and you don't stand a chance with the patrols they will hire to protect their farms.

  • wow I never thought a disaster like this would happen. I feel like everything I know can be gone in the blink of an eye.

  • This video reminds me of those old Zombies movies. I am waiting to see a zombie appear somewhere and start attacking the old guy.

  • if technology fails, stay away from me... I will eat you alive.

  • I remember this guy, is he still alive

  • I am always prepared, I keep my iphone fully charged in case there is an emergency and we lose power. That way I won't need a map and I can find the nearest gas station with Google maps. Also, I can find the nearest resturant if I am in need of food.

Why would people need a plough when they have a gun?

  • Google is still operating in this scenario? How about the internet provider to get to Google? How about the gas station operating?

Biggest joke of them all: the restaurant is still operating in a disaster? Maybe you could hold a gun to them and force them to serve you food? LOL

  • "Reminder"

The video only shows a fraction of our dependency and reliance on modern technology.

However in the unlikely event of such occurence. We must best be prepared. There are good survival books out there and that goes without say, lots of old fashion non 21st century gadgets....

  • I wish you had done the entire show. This is good.

  • It's from a BBC series called Connections - look on piratebay.

  • Just look at Katrina and how ppl started to prey on the weak including own race.

  • i enjoyed watching the video however I do not believe that we could lose power permanently, it is possible only temporarily.

  • "i enjoyed watching the video however I do not believe that we could lose power permanently, it is possible only temporarily"

Ever watch the show ( JERICHO )

We were without Power & Water for 3 weeks

during Hurricane Hugo ! and we

Lived in the City of Charleston S.C

The Question is How long is

    "temporarily. "??????

  • Plow > Modern Technology

  • It's nice to be aware of how unprepared we all are but it would be nicer if there were any viable ideas on how to survive. If the government would not keep the technology to themselves on how to produce free electricity we could be a million times better off. If all the car designs that don't need gas but just water, were made available to all of us, that would help us. If we learned to grow food using methods such as hydroponics and airoponics, that would be useful.

  • I already knew that we're so dependent on technology that it could pose a risk if something catasrtophically collapses society, but I didn't realize HOW MUCH we were so dependent on it.

I surely don't know how to slaughter animals.

  • @Colombian459 If I had to eat, I might slaughter an animal but...just doing the act would be...difficult! It's a cute animal staring into my eyes with innocence....and fear. Hello, cow, how are you today? Mooooo! Yes, yes, you mooo, I know. Mooooooo! Calm down cow. Mooo mooo moooo pony mooooo. Fine, I will feed you grain, cow. Moooo, I'm a cow moooo. I know that. Mooo please don't kill me!!! Mooo.

  • @Consumerofknowledge Stupid user you don't have to kill a animal to survive, only a fool would kill a animal in a area of vegetation, anyone who thinks eat or be eaten rule is necessary he's a retard. So stop being a retard and when you kill a animal, it can have parasites, diseases. If you are somewhere in polar and desert regions, you do have to kill to survive, other then that, not necessary. You think 7 billion people kill animals? Even farmers rarely kill animals in their whole life.

  • @Consumerofknowledge Meat can be diseasely and take time, while plants are safe and can be eaten in a second.

  • Wow. Connections doing survival stuff? Wow.

  • If technology failed most people will die and others will turn animalistic

  • Basically, a "I am legend" scenario.
