  • The pre-runner of SVT was SVO, and this 4 cyl. 2.3L was one of their first offerings, all be it very limited. Izzy my hats off to you for making this SVO this quick. In the years that followed SVT moved away from the in line 4 and developed the DOHC V8, but I can't help but wonder what they might have been able to do with the lighter, 16 valve, DOHC 4 cyl. I guess we will never know.

  • @BorntorunaJD Thanks.... but its not my SVO... i wish! Its actuall Jon Dell Blair's.

  • @BorntorunaJD see what happens is that the 4 cylinder turbo mustang was becoming to have more potential and possibly becoming faster then the traditional v8 mustang. that was a "no no" for some people and for ford. thats why they stop making those cars and why we have yet to see a dohc turbo version of that engine. that dohc engine that was suppose to be for the mustang actually became the engine for the ford sierra cosworth in europe.

  • @AEdgar86 The part where the turbo 2.3 was going to outperform the V8 is true back in '86, but this prototype engine had influence only in the decision Duckworth made in powering the first Sierra RS Cosworths overseas. The plan was to bolt up the DOHC 2.3t in the Sierra intended for the axed '87 SVO (sadly never seen) until the decision was made to build a whole NEW engine the 2.0T for '87. The 302 V8 had multiple applications (truck, RV) and ford couldn't risk losing that status to a 4 cyl.

  • that is i cant quite explain that sir great job glad to see someone else boosting 4bangers instend of stuffing v8s in mustangs

  • @Feralspirit15 I couldnt figure out ur link, what is it?

  • The SVO's were a affort to save gas and help with smog and still be quick. They were more intended for road racing but do good on the strip... There nice for what they are stock and can be very fast as you can see from this vid, there cool there just not for me... I dont argue that maybe a SVO can be faster then a 5.0 when both have bolton's and tweaks just sayin a stock to stock untouched comparison

  • The SVO's arnt really much lighter then the 5.0, there still like 3100lb ish. A SVO and 5.0 might be a good run for eachother if your talkin about a 84, 85, 85.5 or 86 5.0 vs a SVO back when most stock demestic V8's sucked between the mid 70's to mid 80's, but the EFI Foxbody 5.0's were faster stock vs stock even with less rearend gear (2.73:1 auto) vs the 5 speed SVO with 3.45:1 and 3.73:1 in the later years, theres almost if not 1 seconed faster acceleration with the 5.0.

  • @tyebrawn O yeah and stock SVO dont have more power then a stock 5.0 both untouched, the most powerfull stock SVO made like 205hp/240tq and the 5.0 makes 225/300tq . So how are u figurin the stock SVO makes more power?

  • @steelcityracer1320 the svo weighed less though and with the power it made and its power to weight ratio that made it fast enough to run with a 5.0

  • @tyebrawn I guess he wasnt feelin it much eather cuz its sittin in the ally behind his house now for sale. He went back to his 89 5.0 project. But hey I like all cars and any1 can be in the crew with whatever that person likes, like I said we got all types of shit in it, its better that way

  • @tyebrawn We have all types of cars up here but our LS1 F-bodys get way more then 10 MPG and have close 2 if not 300whp stock (none of ours are stock). I got a turbo Civic that I been tryin 2 get motivated 2 rebuild. We got everything from Camaros to EVOs to Civics to mustangs etc etc, All motor, turbo, nitrous, new school old school... Just stating my opinion, My buddy got a 85 SVO over last summer and yeah at 1st I tought it was cool and I tryed it but I just wasnt fellin it, just me

  • SVO's were built for racing stock. Koni adjustable suspension, hurst short throw shifter, and at the time, the highest turbo boost of any production car.

  • @Tpena92 Hey man are u from PA? is that ur Merker? tha red one with tha red wheels? I was lookin at it on here but got confused on whos vid I was watchin lol. If it is thats a nice car, some ppl from around me attended that Carslise show earlyer this year, hopefully I can sometime in tha future

  • @Tpena92 I wasnt tryin 2 argue, just like talkin and debatin things... I seen them stinger products parts but I'm not sure there name brand and thats all I could find is tha stinger stuff, some of tha stuff on there is name brand but not sure about all of it (I like all name brand parts) . I've heard that they can make a reliable 400-450whp on stock bottomend with a aftermarket turbo, ported head, cam and bolton's and thats pretty impressive

  • budget like a lot of ppl including me its a lot cheaper and easyer 2 do a V8 mustang... And what if they got a little more then a semi stock 302 5.0 or even something diferent then that 4 that matter like a 331, 347, 351, 408 etc?... Dont get me wrong, I love tha 4 cylinders (I'm a tuner guy myself) but back 2 what I was sayin them SVO's are 2 hard 2 find parts for and 2 expensive 2 do. And a preformance car is only as good as tha aftermarket there is for it.

  • Thats y I do Tuners, ppl underestinate them.... Tha SVO Mustangs are so expensive to mod and hard 2 find parts for... And there has been tuners sence tha 1970's, remember tha Datsun 240Z? That was tha 1st japeniese car 2 compeat with tha American and European cars... And there was plenty of small engines making around 200hp in tha 80's... I's tha car in tha vid yours? nomatter whos it is I wasnt meaning 2 put it down just meant that tha mustang was meat 2 b a American Muscle car and if your on a

  • Building up a Mustang SVO is more trouble and money then its worth, I'd much rather just build up a V8 mustang. . SVO's are a poor attempt at an Americen Tuner.

  • SVO's were before the "tuner" era. And how are they a poor attempt at anything? SVOs were way beyond its time and the SVO team accomplished its goal of building an all around performance mustang designed for track courses. Any high school kid can make 8 cylinders fast, but to have a 4 cylinder making 200hp in the mid 80s was unheard of. I agree, the sound of a V8 mustang is amazing, but the looks you get when you blow a semi stock 5.0s doors off and they realize its a 4 is more worth it to me.

  • @izzyiskool I dunno about being ahead of their time hahaha. Do you happen to know about the Audi UR Quattro... or sport quattro? Might have been ahead of it's time for the good O'l US of A but not for anywhere else. xD

  • @izzyiskool Id rather run a 4cyl turbo..just the fact of a 4banger putting out power like this video shows..anyways Ive seen 2.3turbos blow off 4.6's

  • @izzyiskool No see you don't know what your talking about. Steelcity he knows. You see the mustang 2.3 was a nice try but the 2.3 block is only gunna handle 250-300 hp for 3 hours and then it goes boom!! You see, I have a 3000 Gt vr4 3.0 v6 factory my 3.0 block will handle 600hp..beg for more and thats all wheel drive. It's stupid to by this car cause at somepoint that 2.3 has got to go...It's just a junk block and ugly. Ppl dont get that Supras vr4s ect can get 500hp easy couple mods. PSHHHHH

  • @steelcityracer1320 not trying to start a argument but what makes you think finding parts for a FORD 2.3 turbo motor is hard to find and expensive because it's clearly not... whens the last time you heard of a fully mandrel bent 3in exhaust for just under 300$? or a center mount header for 200$ or gutted and ported intake manifolds for under 300$ Our motors makes plenty of power with just those simple bolt on to hang with mustangs/sti/evo's/etc....lets be serious...

  • @steelcityracer1320 There's no such thing as an american tuner. The 2.3 is still all american.

  • @lilheners It really is a tuner car dude. I didnt realize this until I bought mine and started modding it. The whole look, feel, the way it drives, the way it responds to mods. It is a tuner car for sure and one of the best ones out there, too.

  • @steelcityracer1320 Actually the SVO is in fact one of the best (if not THE best) tuner cars ever built. Don't believe me? Come drive mine. It handles like a dream, rides and drives great, and will eat 600-700cc street bikes alive from a highway roll. I hung with a modded 03 Cobra from a roll too, he did end up pulling me in the end of course. Maybe one day I will upgrade the stock turbo and injectors and start tearing up LS1s, but for now I'm having too much fun just driving it.

  • @steelcityracer1320 Also understand this, your opinion is in the minority. I live in a town full of tuner cars, WRXs, Evos, etc, and the SVO gets mads props and respect from all. It is a really, really fun and cool car.

  • @steelcityracer1320 lets consider this... im guessing you and/ or your little buddies own v8 mustangs or camaro's.. cool? do you like driving to the drag strip with 10mpg only to find every other mustang there is a 302 or 347 maaaybe a 351w with the same cheap cowl hood and weld racing wheels on 245's in the back talking about how on spray they make 350hp if theyre lucky? i dont see when i go there in my 86svo i know im gonna be the only factory mustang there with 35whp on a stock 5.slow

  • @steelcityracer1320 your a tard.. svo's made more power than the 5.0's stock to stock. up the boost change timing and intake and exhaust and no stock head stang could keep a car behind you.. plan and simple.. you needed intake exhaust and longtubes just to hang with a stock 86svo. power to power isnt everything svo's had rearend gears posi, five lug and less weight over all. oh and 28mpg is nice too :D

  • @steelcityracer1320 If you think that then youve NEVER heard of John Hubers 9 sec mustang watch?v=QyncDceRkmo&feature=related

  • sorry guys i was thinking of the aussie svo 302 fuel injected 5l v8

  • sorry guys i was thinking of the svo v8 that came out here

  • Comment removed

  • the svo engine came out here in australia to it came out in our svo falcons

  • Wow! That thing rips!

  • S/c or t/c would b the magic that makes up for displacement those numbers on top of the manifold represent the displacement of liters of air so if you force more air.....I sure you all now the rest....

  • That thing is bad ass

  • All I want to know is where I can I get his build sheet and how much is in his motor? SVOs RULE by the way! Thank you for buildign this into the monster it could be!

  • 3.0 thats a small block right the same 3.0 in my o2 ford ranger sport

  • Dude read the comments, its a 4 cylinder 2.3liter based engine bored/stroked to 3.0 liters, not a V6 3.0

  • o ok lol

  • thats a big frakin 4 cylinder man! good god

  • @scottywoodral NO, your Ranger should have a V6 3.0. Their's is a special 4 banger block stroked to 3L from 2.3.

  • dude i know...thats dave flanders car...i'm a member over at turboford and he is as well...i had a heavily built 84 svo with a 2.3t and i'll soon have an 83 lx with a 2.3t swap ...i know alot about these motors

  • i did'nt mean to type dave flanders...i'm drunk sorry....i know it's johns

  • LMAO i was gonna say... thats Jon Dell Blair the legend lol.

  • i'm pretty damn sure that car is in the 550-600 rwhp range...i'm also sure it's not 2.3L anymore..probably stroked out to 2.5-2.8L

  • Like I mentioned in above, this engine is a limited production "tall deck" Lima engine (same 2.3 Pinto block with extra tall deck height) that Ford Motorsports produced limited quantities of. With the extra tall deck height he is able to stroke out 3.0 liters of displacement OUT OF 4 CYLINDERS! He dyno'd at just over 700 RWHP and still gets over 22mpg on the streets. Pretty impressive.

  • dude a friend of mine races mini stock mustang with 2.3l based motor and the best factory based block he found was from a used junked JLG personel lift, the mains and pan rails are way thicker than a car block, just some fyi to you svo boys looking for a cheap alternative to an after market block, not to say you can find these lift motors easily, just look for them in more than just cars.

  • This is one of the sickest SVO vids on the net, my little 306 hat is off to you!!!

  • whats all the talk about the V8s? its a fourbanger...a pretty damn baddass one at that... daaaaamn that thing was fast!

  • The talk about v8's is that they are able to play without power adders. All motors have to follow the same rules...there is no magic to make up for displacement. And it's never an even trade off. If you haven gotten this by now then oh well. How many full weight, pump gas, all motor 9, 10 sec 4 cyls street cars are there? None.

  • Im sure theres some out there bro, and no one doubts the power of 8 cylinders but its just soo seckseh when you put out those numbers with half as many holes... you gotta admit and credit where its deserved.

  • sick! i always wanted a fast 2.3... someday

  • If you do the math 302CI is 4.95 Liters.

    61CI=1L

    302CI/61CI=4.9508L

You always round up... Hence the 5.0L.

Yes, I know the GM 305 was a true 5.0L

  • *5 SVO stock is 3036 pounds and 205HP up from 175 in 83-84.

  • id love to see the ricer 4 bangers do wat the 2.3 does nice car!

  • pretty brutal man

  • its at least 300 or 400. and its a 2.3 which ford has a wierd rating for their engines... soo the 2.3 is pretty much a 2.2. the 5.0 is a "4.9" from what i heard from guys dont know if thats true or not. all i know is its more that 300 or 400 horse lol

  • Well to be honest wicha bro all manufacturers do that. Everyone always rounds up to the nearest decimal centimeter. But don't get it twisted tho, becuz Ford also made a 2.2 in the early Probes that were completely different than the the SVO's 2.3 Lima motor and Ford also made a 4.9L I6 300cuin motor in the mid 90s F150's completely different than a 5.0 302 motor. So yea the 2.3 actually measures 2289CC or 2.289 so it rounds up to 2.3. The 351W motors also only measure 350.7cuin

  • Math much? It has to do with converting litres to cubic inches and previous machinery. The 302 was called a 5.0 because Ford already had an engine that was 4.9 litres. The 300 IL6.

  • damn that thing hooks!!

  • Hell yea it does. Fat slicks and a built C4 trans.

  • No way man that thing is putting out an estimated 700hp. The block is based on a limited production stroked 3.0 liter tall deck block.

  • you really need that much for a car that only weighs what 2,400 LBs lightened up that car probably weighs 1,500 Lbs. I've seen 400Hp 289 do 9.35. that only weighted 1,800 Lbs. it's a Nice car.

  • Yeah but this Mustang has a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine and all SVO's weigh approx 3036LBS, its really hard to get fox Mustangs under 2000 lbs but it is possible. But in my opinion its sick as hell when you put out these numbers with full interior and everything... true street car. Screw gutted cars.

  • what's the HP 300 or 400 ?
