Seems that the quality of their instruments is a weak link, especially the brass and the violins. I also think that the violin players should apply more force during strong passages.
Lim Kek-tjiang: Its is skilled presentation of most tough composition. Lim Kek-tjiang reminds of Karajan's careful and emotional conduct of symphonies. Lim Kek-tjiang has done exceptional job, in the same auditorium, in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA
These young and skilled Chinese (Taipei) professionals beat the tired, where-is-my-pension-already Euro-Finnish ocherstral salarymen and salarywomen by 6-0, possibly by even more! And that in the game the Finns themselves should know how to play!
Finnish commets are just random tought of finns but this song here is played perfectly. I love to see it as world wide song because its really beatifull.
This song describes history of Finland and mentality of Finnish people so well. Melancholy contrasted to undying hope and endless guts, humility combined to proudness of homeland. That proudness is the undying flame in hearts of Finnish people that gives the will to never give up in most desperate situations. That proudness is the reason for Finland being independent, unified nation despite all the poverty and enslavement it had faced. "Brightness of dawn dispatches the reigns of night."
This piece of music is rousing, and makes anyone feel patriotic, finnish or otherwise, it is a beautiful piece of music, one of the best. I also like anitras dance by grieg, and La campanella by Liszt, and griegs piano concerto in A-minor, chopins scherzo no.2... u get the idea
i gotta say. this is more then national athem. it is just awsome piece of music. if we ever have seat in galactic goverment, this shuld be humanitys national athem.
@mmikkone Yes, I think that the only other version that compares to this (and is actually a live performance video) has the video about 1.5 seconds ahead of the audio. I think the horns and trumpets were a tad harsh in their exchange with the violin ascending line where they had those quick triplets. The microphones were a little too high so in the end when the music got louder, there was tiny bit of distortion. This is still a great version of it though.
extraordinary performance by the orchestra, even heard from the speakers of my laptop i must say this is probably the best finlandia-performance ive heard =)
Finlandia is in fact not the national anthem of Finland, even though many (including me) would prefer that it was since.
And it is a great and pretty "patriotic" song to many Finns due to its lyrics (in the hymn version) and it having been used as a soundtrack to a legendary black and white movie named Tuntematon Sotilas (The Unknown Soldier) depicting the continuation war of 41-44.
The national anthem of Finland is a piece called Maamme ("Our land") composed by Fredrik Pacius.
@PuoskarinRuoska Thank you very much for giving the correction. I come to know Finnish history because of the singing group Yliopiluskunnan Laullajat who visited Iloilo City, Philippines sometime in the late 1970's. Indeed, it is a patriotic song like our Bayan Ko, which when sung, unites all Filipinos into action.

I just saw the Newport Symphony Orchestra perform this piece and was utterly blown away! It's a great piece of music to perform-- thank you~

힘있고, 또렷한 연주는 칭찬할 만한데 .. 너무 정교한 맛은 떨어진다 ..

Simplesmente Fantástico....

Did the last timp. stroke go earlier or was just a conductor's wish? strange... in score timps & orchestra stop playing simultaneously.

Makes me want to cry listening to this. As a Finn, living outside Finland it just makes me feel so much like home every single time. It has all that being a Finn means in it!

I am a Finn living abroad in China (though I spent most of my life in Canada), and I feel the same way.

Ha, the timpanist reads the conductor wrong in the very closure and finishes before everyone else, because the conductor makes a confusing move. :-)
