  • Love this video! I was at this exact spot yesterday and it has not changed much in the past 29 years! Its great that the original signals are still in use but I bet there days are numbered. Csx is in the process of changing out the south bound signals right now.

  • Yes, it is part of CSX's main line to Florida. Great place for train watching.

  • Is this line still in service today?

  • What was the purpose of Collier Yard? Was it a crew-change point? Did it classify freights?

  • @cbalducc Collier yard prior to NS and CSX mergers was the primary interchange point between N&W and ACL. SAL was also at the western end of N&W's interchange siding @ Secoast. Was only a small yard until SCL merger and handle both ex- ACL and ex-SAL traffic afterward. Not the only, interchange points, just the only one for all roads main trunk lines until the mergers of th "80's

  • If only the SCL didn't have to kill off the L&N, Clinchfield, and the Georgia and merge with Chessie to form CSX...

  • EMDs RULE! GE SUCKS! Give me the 70s and 80s when they ran real trains. I'm sick of the AC technology. SDs were the real deal. GE's catch fire. Lash up a bunch of EMDs and give us some real power.

  • @rhelmod ....

Amen brother.... those were the days

  • oh and by the way there are certain slow speed lines that can only have geeps run on them. there is still a need for those. just not as much as there used to be. and just because things advance doesnt mean you cant love the oldies.

  • @tipdrip215 i agree i lvoe ac600s tho best units on csxs roster for sure

  • i never said i was an expert. i like this for a hobby. and you shouldnt bash peoples hobbies. and if you say nostalgia for old EMDs is bad, there are a ton of other people who share my opinion on that, so get a life stop being a dick and being mr. knowitall.

  • well i know why they like GEs better. fuel efficiency. thats about the only reason why. engineers even say they dont like GEVOs dash 8s and 9s and that theyll take any geeps or SDs anyday over those.

  • they should change the name from GEVO to GESPLODE, lol.

  • i agree.

  • well now EMD is back on track with the SD70 kicking ass like they used to with the 40 series. GE has had their fair share of problems with GEVOs trash 8s and trash 9s. dash 7s are ok and CWACs are ok. but thats 2 things that are good from GE and alot that are bad. so yeah

  • Okay here in lawrenceville on the tracks below us is the old seaboard coast line (CSX) in use now to atlanta...and from atlanta thru athens to south cal.....at times u see old cars with SC/LN family lines on them....alot pass thru i wish someone would come n take some movie cameras of it.....

  • the 1582 in 4th on the SCL painted train is now CSX road slug 2335.

  • Awesome! One of my favorite spots to go to! I live in Virginia Beach, and we have an abandoned line that's supposed to go light rail by 2010. Basically, I railfan the NS Norfolk District and CSX North End Sub when I go here. BTW, there is now an overpass where that curve is. :)

  • Sweet video! makes me think of when I was 6-10 years old and lived by the SCL in Powder Springs,Ga! 5***** and favorite!

  • I agree...my dad worked 40 years on the L&N,SCL(Family Lines System),SEABOARD and finally CSX..All on the Corbin Division's East KY Subdivision, and he said the best of the bunch was the L&N..

  • I live in a small town in TN, and I was a kid in the 80's. The old L&N line ran right behind our house. I watched this line go from a very busy SCL/L&N Family Lines RR to a very busy Seaboard System RR to an abandoned CSX line. Luckily a shortline (KWT Railways) purchased the old line in 1987 and it is still in use today. Only about 2 trains daily now.

  • After the merger,CSX started to sell of or abandon a number of branch lines including some that were still making a small profit. Emphasis was on shippers with larger quantity car loads. CSX offered Many long time employees incentives to retire early as jobs were being cut out.

  • God its incredible that 20 years ago C30-7s were pulling the intermodel trains and now they're ethier scrapped, in dead lines, in South America or on regional short lines

  • You are so right man, my father used to work for SCL and went threw all the changes right up to CSX. He still believes when they merged all the railroads that formed CSX they made a huge mistake!

  • why was forming the Chicken Shit Xpress a big mistake?

  • DASCO...methinks you answered the question!

CSX spends more time trying to screw its railroaders now than actually railroading. Why I quit. Got tired of watching other people get screwed in a very bitter work environment.

  • Yeah, CSX Sucks. I'd take SCL or Chessie over their "son" anyday!

  • @DASCO2136

I use to think Penn Central was a mistake, but they did have almost every locomotive built dating from the 1940s to the 1960s. They had everything ALCO, BLW, EMD,GE, and Fairbanks-Morse engines in their roster. I agree with what you say though about Cheap Shit Xpress.

  • probably because theyre GE junk. most of seaboard's non dash 2 EMDs, and chessie's too for that matter, are still in service on CSX as slugs. and the dash 2s are all still in service...as theirselves because theyre great:).

  • amen!
