my K&N looks just like yours fits in there perfect I saw some guy had one but i guess he installed and wasn't able to put that box around it so it does look nice. its just hanging there. did you put that decal on the hose? that looks cool I will put one on mine that is a decal correct? the hose came bare and you put it on. i have an 02 high sport and the added the same K&N air intake system do you notice any difference what i did mess up was taking off the factory mufflers and putting on these annoying loud flowmasters.if i put back the factory mufflers would the engine be any louder with the K&N intake because if that is the case i will leave it alone i want to restore the cabin to the quite
@rammstein11004 yeah I definately feel a difference with the K&N intake, but you will optimize your power if you dyno tune your car afterwards. when you put your factory mufflers it will make the cabin quiet. With the intake you will hear a nice little roar from the motor under acceleration from the outside. not anything annoying though. is your resonator still on???
@rammstein11004 i put on the K&N hoping to save fuel and if i gained HP great but i dont see how a car could have more horse and conserve more fuel. it makes sense to me that the more horses under there the more they have to drink. where is the resonator and who would have taken it off the one that installed the K&N or the one who put on the flowmasters? thanks. they are really loud they suck. I want it back to factory sound it was a luxury sport coupe and that is what i wish to return to. TY

For those of you looking into buying a GM vehicle with the 3800 make sure to do a scan before you purchase, because the 00-03 predecessors have the p1811 : Max adapt/Long Shift error code for the transmission aka (Pressure Control Solenoid) needs to be replaced. This causes hard delayed shifting. My car has it and Mr. Transmission quoted me for a 600$ repair. Apparently some 04-05 models have it as well. Make sure to check if the transmission is the 4T65E model which most likely is with the 3800
I had a 1990 oldsmobile delta 88 with the 3800 in it. It had 244,000, still running, but no power steering lots of vibration while driving, lots of rust, basically scrap yard material. Until I started searching for an Impala LS, or a Monte Carlo SS with the same motor. Now I have a 03 Monte with 115,000 (2 weeks old), spent about 7000, and has identical vibration, needs a transmission valve replaced and has a clunky steering feeling. I love the car but its reminding me too much of my olds.
I sure as hell think he deserved one. Im in the process of buying one of them myself within a month! i love jeff gordon and i think him and jimmie johnson are the best 2 races nascar has even seen.
Hey all, ive got a BEAUTIFUL '00 3400 that everyone without a keen eye seems to think is brand new. Ive decided im gonna keep it for a very long time, and im rollin the ball on upgrades. I cant seem to find any nice Cold Airs that are rated for the 3.4L.. would using a K&N rated for a 3.8L be alright?
Laugh all you want about the 3800 v-6. It's been on Motor Trends top 10 engines of the world list for years. These engines are bullet proof and will last forever if you take care of it. I've got the same engine in a Grand Prix GT.
This is a beautiful car that pays for itself in gas savings. I bet you're getting 30mpg or better on the road, I do, burning regular 87 octane.
Most of these kids talking about superchargers and v-8's, are just that, kids...

@shorewood100 totally agree on the 3800 series 2 - its a solid motor - my 2003 SS has 210k miles and the motor is strong as ever - no burning oil...the only thing that was rebuilt was the tranny. I owned a 90 stang for 10 years blown and juiced and although alot of fun (124mph in 1320)...its nice to get nearly 30 miles to the gallon on the highway with modest 200HP motor - and the car handles decently...and I have 3 kids which 'fit' in the roomy back seat. I love this car.
@jjs777fzr i dont run my 02 hard but when did you need a tranny how many miles i have 105,000 and when i drive slow it feels like something gives like a little kick like it kicks going into gear automatically even though i am in drive. you feel it shift is that normal or is the tranny starting to go. i first changed the tranny fluid after like 69, then just now. i found out that i should have been changing it every 25000
my digital computer on top with the ave mpg tells me something like 22.5 but it seems to always stay there and it appears that the needle goes down very fast. i am i really getting 22 to the gallon it doesn't seem like that and when i drive up state then it might say that i am getting 28 to a gallon this is impossible isn't it. i have a pig 08 trailblazer ss that the deal stays on a disgusting 12.6
@rammstein11004 22.5 for avg fuel economy sounds right about what I get - its an average number so it doesnt move up or down quickly - The most I have gone is 342 Miles on a full tank of gas and then at fill up it showed I had about 1.5 Gallons left in the tank...so figure I could have gone about 362 miles on a single tank.
@shorewood100 exactly right, my N/A 3.8 in my 01 buick regal has 198,000 miles on it and it runs perfect, got some mods on it but not putting down nearly the power of those regal Gs's or grand prix gtp's
yes!! I install intakes on montes, impalas, Grand Prixs, Hondas, etc. (this is just a side job though!) Whoever installs the intake should ALWAYS disconnect the battery!! This is for the PCM to relearn the new mod you have done....

what tires are those? i have a 04 monte carlo ls with the winners circle package and it's the same color as yours and has the same rims and those tires would really nice on it.
You know all the mods I had to this car: headers & cat back exhaust, 180 T Stat, HV Throttle Body, HV3 Gasket, Flipped Motor mounts, K&N Intake, reprogrammed PCM(which was really pointless) all this and I never ever tuned it to the new mods!!! WHY?? IDK!!
Lesson learned: You will never see the FULL potential of your mods, until you tune it AFTERWARDS!! If I did, lets just say I would have given some superchargers raised eyebrows! ;)

Alot people thought that they were supercharged but they weren't. They made a couple of JG editions in 2004 & they were all supercharged! For supercharging or turbo, you still have to change the heads on a N/A 3.8! check out what did on my "more info" also a tune will wake the beast up. I installed the HV3 gasket in my upper intake and you can definately feel a difference in the mid to upper RPM's! Check out ZZperformance. They have alot of things for you, just unorganized at times!
ran pretty good!! very powerful in the upper RPMS thanks to the HV3 gasket. I had all these mods and it wasn't even tuned!! If this car was ever tuned, Some superchargers would have been raising eyebrows!! ;)
no this downpipe came with the SLP headers 3 inch down pipe indeed!! no u bend, high flow cat, and just straight unrestricted air flow. You know this car breathed excellent. K&N air intake, ported Throttle body, removed MAF screen(with no issues) HV3 Gasket installed in the plenum (upper intake), high flow cat no resenator, SLP headers, mandrel bent exhaust & SLP mufflers, ya know true full performance exhaust from front to back! So clear you can even hear the throttle body's plate whistle @ 2K!

The back windows have stickers that came with the performance mods that I purchased: SLP & K&N. The windsheild decal is from Ebay! The chevy bowties, the little tiny flags on the window and the red bowties on the mirrors are all from pep boys or our 24 hour auto zone! The hendrix motorsports on the ground effects, ghost flames and jeff's 24's and signature are all stock. So you can easily purchase this from the dealer, well hopefully!;) If not, try ebay!

I know you can get these automotive paint pens from jegs or something, just get them in yellow, it probably wont be an exact match, but it would look better than the white lettering.
Check out my channel in a few weeks, im gonna try to get a 0-60 test of my dads monte carlo (same as yours) and a walk around. Its stock, but it doesnt have the ghost flames and a few stickers. Musta got hit in the front by the previous owner.

I don't know about 25, but I can safely say at least 15! You can really feel the 3800 free herself and has more pick up and top end is amazing!! I "had" installed the HV3 gasket in the upper intake. Now that is one thing I will assure you that THIS WORKS!!! With the HV3 Throttle body and the headers, this HV3 gasket really awaken the 3.8 in the upper RPMs!!

@jjs777fzr i dont run my 02 hard but when did you need a tranny how many miles i have 105,000 and when i drive slow it feels like something gives like a little kick like it kicks going into gear automatically even though i am in drive. you feel it shift is that normal or is the tranny starting to go. i first changed the tranny fluid after like 69, then just now. i found out that i should have been changing it every 25000

my digital computer on top with the ave mpg tells me something like 22.5 but it seems to always stay there and it appears that the needle goes down very fast. i am i really getting 22 to the gallon it doesn't seem like that and when i drive up state then it might say that i am getting 28 to a gallon this is impossible isn't it. i have a pig 08 trailblazer ss that the deal stays on a disgusting 12.6

@rammstein11004 22.5 for avg fuel economy sounds right about what I get - its an average number so it doesnt move up or down quickly - The most I have gone is 342 Miles on a full tank of gas and then at fill up it showed I had about 1.5 Gallons left in the tank...so figure I could have gone about 362 miles on a single tank.

yes!! I install intakes on montes, impalas, Grand Prixs, Hondas, etc. (this is just a side job though!) Whoever installs the intake should ALWAYS disconnect the battery!! This is for the PCM to relearn the new mod you have done....

You know all the mods I had to this car: headers & cat back exhaust, 180 T Stat, HV Throttle Body, HV3 Gasket, Flipped Motor mounts, K&N Intake, reprogrammed PCM(which was really pointless) all this and I never ever tuned it to the new mods!!! WHY?? IDK!!
Lesson learned: You will never see the FULL potential of your mods, until you tune it AFTERWARDS!! If I did, lets just say I would have given some superchargers raised eyebrows! ;)

Alot people thought that they were supercharged but they weren't. They made a couple of JG editions in 2004 & they were all supercharged! For supercharging or turbo, you still have to change the heads on a N/A 3.8! check out what did on my "more info" also a tune will wake the beast up. I installed the HV3 gasket in my upper intake and you can definately feel a difference in the mid to upper RPM's! Check out ZZperformance. They have alot of things for you, just unorganized at times!

ran pretty good!! very powerful in the upper RPMS thanks to the HV3 gasket. I had all these mods and it wasn't even tuned!! If this car was ever tuned, Some superchargers would have been raising eyebrows!! ;)

no this downpipe came with the SLP headers 3 inch down pipe indeed!! no u bend, high flow cat, and just straight unrestricted air flow. You know this car breathed excellent. K&N air intake, ported Throttle body, removed MAF screen(with no issues) HV3 Gasket installed in the plenum (upper intake), high flow cat no resenator, SLP headers, mandrel bent exhaust & SLP mufflers, ya know true full performance exhaust from front to back! So clear you can even hear the throttle body's plate whistle @ 2K!

The back windows have stickers that came with the performance mods that I purchased: SLP & K&N. The windsheild decal is from Ebay! The chevy bowties, the little tiny flags on the window and the red bowties on the mirrors are all from pep boys or our 24 hour auto zone! The hendrix motorsports on the ground effects, ghost flames and jeff's 24's and signature are all stock. So you can easily purchase this from the dealer, well hopefully!;) If not, try ebay!

I don't know about 25, but I can safely say at least 15! You can really feel the 3800 free herself and has more pick up and top end is amazing!! I "had" installed the HV3 gasket in the upper intake. Now that is one thing I will assure you that THIS WORKS!!! With the HV3 Throttle body and the headers, this HV3 gasket really awaken the 3.8 in the upper RPMs!!
