Fox News, John McCain, anyone who supports John McCain, Brit Hume and anyone out there that is a Republican in THIS election cycle... is pathetic and stupid. Period.
Even if Obama did support it, I think that in general, peoples' fear of children knowing anything about sex is absurd. Why do you think teen pregnancy rates are so high, and that kids giggle and guffaw whenever anything sexual is mentioned? If you turn anything into a taboo, that'll only increase interest, and without education, that interest will be unfounded and misguided.
"Age appropriate" is used in the bill too many times, forcing us to assume that the people who were to abide to the bill were to have common sense that teaching kindergarteners about sex is just disturbing. Good job Obama you screwed up haha
13otany: The issue isn't whether this particular clause should have been in the legislation. The issue is whether McCain's campaign ad was correct or not.
You're correct about our primary education (K-12; ages 5-17) system. We rank 3rd among industrialized nations in per capita spending and are in the mid-30s on reading comprehension and math. IMO this is due to the Teacher's Union and Dem tinkering with curriculum.
BTW, you look very pensive in the photo on your profile page. lol.
We have a simillar debate in germany going on since years. The public oppinion is to reform curriculum and teachers education in universities without cutting spending.
For McCains add, it is a nasty distortion at the least and as such fits the definition of propaganda. McCain knows how a bill is a basic outline, that becomes more detailed regulations later on.
The ad tries to paint democrats as child molesters. Its undertone is no coincidence.
"(9) Course material and instruction shall discuss and provide for the development of positive communication skills to maintain healthy relationships and avoid unwanted sexual activity."
The internet can be your friend in "trying to look at this objectively"
where does it say that kindergarteners would ONLY be taught this? They could easily be taught about the contraceptives part too. There is no where in the bill that states what or how Kindergarteners would be taught. It loosely states everything with age appropriate which is just dumb.
who's arguing it doesn't say anything about unwanted touching? no one.
this is the argument:
"Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV"
Read the bill! Read it! Now! I quoted it for you above. You see? Up there?
Now take emphasis on "age appropriate". The bill lays out a plan for a curiculum. That means that everything in this bill will get broken down in bits and pieces and tought step by step over the years in an age appropriate manner.
Your common sense tells you, that you do not teach kindergarden kids how to f+ck, dosnt it? Its not age apropriate. So, whats the whole problem?
the bill mandates instruction to Kindergartners on "sexually transmitted infections". Infections. that are transmitted sexually. Not infections that are transmitted by sitting on a toilet seat. Not infections that are transmitted by high-fives on the playground. Not infections spread by sneezing. the bill is about sexually transmitted infections, not the spread of the common cold or chickenpox.
so tell me how you teach a Kindergartner how infections are transmitted sexually? and why?
No where in the bill states the limitations of its application to kindergarteners. So why Obama expect us to have esoteric knowledge and somehow read his mind about what he meant when the bill he voted for doesn't provide any evidence for it and why he calls Mccain a lier for bring his voting record to the voters attention.
if there wasn't anything in the bill that most americans would strongly disagree with?isn't that what talking the"issues"mean? Why he doesn't take responsibility for his record like a man of honor should?
13otany13ay,"Your common sense tells you, that you do not teach kindergarden kids how to f+ck, dosnt it? Its not age apropriate. So, whats the whole problem?" Whose common sense? The bill doesn't provide limits and checks and balances that some nut-job educator would not insert his perverted and irresponsible notion of "age appropriate" into the class. Age appropriate means different things to different people! Your argument is silly!
Yupp, as I said, I made the mistake to believe no american could be a coplete doofus. I thought teachers in the U.S. would have a special education and training for the job. And I thought a bill would become a bunch of regulations and a curriculum. I didnt know Amerika drafts its teachers from the local sewer and lets them loose on their kids without any instructions or oversight whatsoever. My fault.
13otany13ay,you are worse than the journalists in spinning!! Was that all that the bill said! For god's sake! The bill included far far more than touching and "maintain healthy relationships and avoid unwanted sexual activity." and it didn't even clearly mention what the bill meant by so-called "age appropriate"! Obama is not honest! But you are right Internet is our friend and people should read the bill for themselves and see if they want their kids to be subject to its content!I read it too!
Yupp, may be you are right. Reading the bill again, one possibly could interprete "age apropriate" as teaching a five year old how to suck a dick or lick a pussy. To do so one must be a complete doofus, a moron, an idiot, BUT one could possibly interprete it that way nontheless.
This is really disingenuous 13otany13ay!For many american parents things far far milder than the nonsense you wrote above is consider totally "age inappropriate"!! Beside mccain in his add didn't even tell how you should interpret the bill! He just brought the bill to the voters attention. He didn't say it meant the stuff you said! So why is he called a lier? Did Obama voted and supported the bill or not!! You are SO illogical! It really shocks me!
Watch the add again! It implies the bill would force teachers to teach five year old kids sex. Does the bill do so? Anywhere?
McCain knows how the process of legislation works. He knows a bill is passed into regulations. He knows how to read a bill. And yet he choses a more then awkward and doofus way to interprete this bill. Why? Take a guess!
"Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV"
"Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV."
tell me how you teach that "age appropriately" to kindergarteners.
The bill also stated that information would be taught at age level, and parents could opt to not have their child taught. After seeing Monday's Oprah show, about the thousands of men who are molesting little babies, "because they cant talk and tell" I want to scream out to everyone.
This is fox news! It will agree with any conservative bull shit!

As abstinence-only education goes up, so do abortions and teen pregnancies. FACT. Look it up.

Very true. I started sex ed in 5th grade, and nothing's wrong with me. *shrug*

The ad was technically correct. Obama voted for legislation that did in fact include language as cited in this vid.
I doubt if Obama knew the language was in the bill, but he signed it and should have known. The ad is fair and legit.

McCain's ad is correct!
Go read the bill for yourself!!!

Damn liberals. Read it yourself.

You are right. American teachers are so uneducated, numb, stupid and deaf, they could never ever possibly undertsnad the term "age appropriate".
And by the way - its a bill. In every country I know of a law is made into regulations, further detailing it. Something as a curiculum in this case.
But why do I as a german explain the american legislative practice to an american? Because american teachers are pinheads and american schools suck?

Oh Fox, you are so retard. If the bill says age apropriate and K through 12 means from the age 5 till 18 years, then the bill seems to say:
In kindergarden we teach to be aware of evil sugar-uncles.
In far later ages we teach the rest.
Fox is so unbelievable.
13otany13ay 3 years ago
"sexually transmitted infections" does not equal "evil sugar-uncles". are you even trying to look at this objectively?
