Does anyone know a good free way to learn the basics of modes and keys in improvisational soloing? I've been playing for about two years and am struggling to try to learn how to improvise.
@jerryG72 Sorry Jer, sure dont...Way too time consuming, and the pedal steel lessons are taking all my time right now....thanks for posting though...Mick
would it be too much to ask for you to write out tab for the how you play it? i love how this sounds. I have the basics down but I cant quite pin all the notes the way you do.
i know the vid is "old", but this has been my favorite dead song forever and i want to learn to play it well
@mendex2006 thanks Mend, but concentrating on Pedal steel right now...I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to post though...maybe in the future I can get back to the Dead stuff...
@Singlpilot Thanks for the feedback. I typically determine Key / Modal scales based on the Chords used ex., G,C,D = Gmaj = A Dorian, etc. It seems that Jerry's style goes way beyond that.. agreed? any further tips or comments is appreciated! Thanks:)
@Singlpilot Correct. The easy way for me to remember this stuff is that if you are in a 'major key' like E, except you have the VII chord (D), then play the mixolydian which has a flat 7th tone.
I will no longer want to smack every guy wearing an american eagle shirt, well thats not true, but you are an exception. Well played, good sound, and nice guitar, keep up the good work.

@25Bees jerry is almost always in either myxolydian dorian blues but usually a combination of the three. definitely true in china cat.

@LorelleMartin34 Very true...

@25Bees It would actually be closer to A major...Its a modal E run...Mixolydian...They share siimlar intervals..
