  • Cool, but why in E?!?!

  • @kcb3141 Because the transition in the middle IS in E..

  • Damn man, great playing!

  • Amazing video, one request please break it down a little slower. sounds perfect, but having a little trouble keeping up!

  • what kind of guitar is that

  • A ROman Pearlcaster...which has been stolen since this video from BillyBobs TX

  • @Singlpilot Sorry to hear that, twas a gorgeous axe!

  • Does anyone know a good free way to learn the basics of modes and keys in improvisational soloing? I've been playing for about two years and am struggling to try to learn how to improvise.

  • WHoa! That was sweet!

  • i have learned quite a bit from your videos. hope to see some more of these in the future.

  • do you have any tabs for your solos?

  • @jerryG72 Sorry Jer, sure dont...Way too time consuming, and the pedal steel lessons are taking all my time right now....thanks for posting though...Mick

  • a lot of people call garcia some stoned hippie picker, but these solos are melodic and beautiful, thanx BRO

  • @brehd AGREED!...Amen!

  • would it be too much to ask for you to write out tab for the how you play it? i love how this sounds. I have the basics down but I cant quite pin all the notes the way you do.

i know the vid is "old", but this has been my favorite dead song forever and i want to learn to play it well

  • dude thx a lot , this ll help a lot , pls keep posting vids and more bob weir stuff like the china cat intro :D

  • @mendex2006 thanks Mend, but concentrating on Pedal steel right now...I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to post though...maybe in the future I can get back to the Dead stuff...

  • Nice tone! And playing!

  • Any chance of doing more Dead guitar videos like this one ?

  • @poppyonepug1 What did ya have in mind poppy?

  • nicely done!! Question: what scale or mode is that solo in? E Major? Thanks.

  • @25Bees jerry is almost always in either myxolydian dorian blues but usually a combination of the three. definitely true in china cat.

  • @LorelleMartin34 Very true...

  • @25Bees It would actually be closer to A major...Its a modal E run...Mixolydian...They share siimlar intervals..

  • @Singlpilot Thanks for the feedback. I typically determine Key / Modal scales based on the Chords used ex., G,C,D = Gmaj = A Dorian, etc. It seems that Jerry's style goes way beyond that.. agreed? any further tips or comments is appreciated! Thanks:)

  • @Singlpilot Correct. The easy way for me to remember this stuff is that if you are in a 'major key' like E, except you have the VII chord (D), then play the mixolydian which has a flat 7th tone.

  • SWEEEEEEEET!!! nice playing dude-you really nailed it. Thanks!

  • damn

    that was awesome

  • Believe it or not they are Carvins..

  • hey what kinda pickups u sound awesome

  • Who is this???...LOL..Write me back...Mickey

  • Mickey Adams! You old dog! I'd know that voice anywhere. Miss ya old man!

  • I will no longer want to smack every guy wearing an american eagle shirt, well thats not true, but you are an exception. Well played, good sound, and nice guitar, keep up the good work.

  • Thanks a lot

    I found what I need

  • Will do bro...More up today..weather report intro

  • what amp settings do you use? i really like your tone

  • Its a Mesa Boogie 81 model SimulClass MKIIC with a 15" speaker. Boss DD6 Delay and a Route 66 overdrive/compressor. Bright switch out, bass on 3 mid at 7 treble at 6 reverb on 2...Mickey
