  • very cool

  • Seems like better if they call the Navy to fire some ship guns at the cliff. The videography is gorgeous.

  • I like this video. Thank you for posting it.

  • Great video. Chopper pilot is good with the pendulum.

  • why?

  • @jorasave

to stop the rock falling onto a car (like they make avalanches in the mountains so they don't have Dangerous avalanches while people are there)

  • @DuckyD22 oh thats why thank you

  • imagine of the wrecking-ball got caught in the rock

    :o

  • @gnamp if

  • @gnamp

they can release the load from the cockpit or from the Cabin by a number of methods same as a normal load.... all connected with the same system as normal loads "SACRU" (semi-automatic cargo release unit)

  • @DuckyD22 ok. imagine if they needed to release the load from the cockpit or cabin using the SECRU system because the wrecking-ball got caught in the rock.

  • @gnamp

Then it would fall to the catch net just like the rock did

  • @DuckyD22 Yes. Some time after violently jerking the helicopter towards the cliff-face, I suspect. How else would they know they have become entangled?

  • @gnamp There would be a crewman in the back of the A/C watching the ball/load to make sure it goes where it is meant to....

trust me I work with helicopters that use these systems

  • @DuckyD22 ...and I regularly encounter rocks that use gravity. Do you honestly think this is a completely safe activity?

  • @gnamp

    Yes!

There will be drills and procedures for this to be done, there will be all sorts of risk assessments done on weather its safe to get the heli in there, all sort of what happens if... etc

Is it safe to carry a 1000Lt tank of fuel under a chinook in 50 degree heat over hostile territory?

ask me again if i think its safe to swing a ball at a rock...... or do you get how i'm justifying this yet?

  • @DuckyD22 Do you honestly think that being in greater danger makes everything else which carries risk any less dangerous? Flying around in helecopters is an inherently less safe activity than being on safe ground. Attempting to smash a cliff-face with a huge metal swing-ball or flying over areas where the inhabitants are trying to shoot you down is less safe still. Danger money is paid for a reason. Have you never seen a helecopter getting into difficulties?

  • holy shit thats scary.

  • and russians would just blow it up..

  • @atolon123 And create an ever more hazardous place, thats pretty much russians yep.

  • @atolon123

    with a rocket! lol

  • -y tu a que te dedicas?

-pues por la mañana me dedico a exar montañas abajo con un helicoptero

    -y por la tarde?

    -las riego, pobrecicas

  • This is why Norway is one of the greatest countries in the world.

  • Awesome video!!! So what's with the water? I assume it's to wash away any loose debris.

  • Why does he drop water after? This is such an awesome video!!

  • @greaseline To clear out the rocks left behind!

  • NORWAY IS A STRONG nation, well That is what I THOUGHT;

But they dont have enough money to at least send canon boats to train shooting at the most obvious targets in nature that WILL strike sooner or later on bypassing bus or cars.

  • @Flyfisherman1962 How smart of you. Didn't you consider that using canon boats to do this would, just like napalmNewt said, damage the face? Using this method is a much better solution than shooting down the entire rock fall and putting lives at risk!

  • @Flyfisherman1962 What the hell are you on about?

  • This is what I call it a PINGLE ATTEMPT, or as a spring's kiss to a branch. But this only shows hos little capable Norway is to handle all situations of threaths, and to expose and put people's lives to the most, and twin their fingers for EVERY day that not a bus Full of school children will not be struck and destroyed as a man in his car unfortunately was hit by a major stoneslide.

    THIS SHOWS INCOMPATIBLE Norway as a NATION is;

  • this is why i love norway, they pay attention and care about everything, they all live like one big happy family am so happy to be here byebye iraq

  • Awsomeness!

  • Why didn't my career adviser tell me about jobs like this!?

  • @ChomFa Look at the job he/she has!

  • Just remember to be careful with that wrecking ball, or else it's rocks fall, everybody dies.

  • Epic fences.

  • Nerve-wracking task for even the most experience helicopter pilot, I wouldn't wonder. Always appreciate the better class of video on YouTube, there's so much trash that it's good to see something informative for a change!

  • What road is that? I want to find it on Google maps.

  • @JKVisFX it says Oppdølstanda in description so it must be road 70 at approx

62.711 N 8.564 E. There are thousands of places in Norway that looks almost like that. (Steep mountainside looming over road on a very narrow strandflat by a fjord)

  • @GormHornbori Found it! Looks like you are right. Google maps IDs it as 70 plus, the map seems to match up with the arial footage.

Google Maps also just posted street view for almost all of Norge now. Now I can "drive" even more of Norway.

  • Nice quality!!

  • Norway is a great place

  • Congrats! work professionally well done, not cheap but safety first!!

  • rozzissimi...

  • incredible that the fence held a rock that big from such a great height- mad skills norwegian civil engineers! come to montreal and fix our infrastructure!

  • Actually those fences are sold in Canada... made in Austria.

  • Wow! Just looking at those huge tumble of rock falling down! Shise!

  • water!?!?!!

  • for washing of los rocks.

  • Holy fuck !!!

  • Ah, how I love being an Norwegian. We're so weird xD

  • Awsome drop from 1:32!!

  • It is cool to see how that hill looks like from above. I've been driving on that road many times and there have always been some fallen rocks on the road. They are considering a tunnel to bypass this dangerous stretch of road. The video are from the cleanup after a rockfall that creamed a car and almost killed the driver.

  • i thought the water was so that the ground would turn into mud, and any loose rocks which fell onto the wet ground would sink into it and not fall away for a long time?

  • 5******

  • I can't beleive someone actually spotted that hazard way up there in the first place. Whoever it was can consider themself a life saver as they have probably prevented a terrible accident.

  • amasing pilot!

  • cool! the safety fence done its job anyway!

  • cool video... and a sick pilot =)

  • Smart people........ Nice work!

  • great pilot

  • theres a bigger rock waiting above :D

  • heli pilot has some skills

  • Amazing footage, would love to see it in HD

  • Norway road agency aren't known for faking footage of their infrastructure work...

  • Damn, that is ballsy and full of awesome.

  • Use a rocket launcher, it's easy.

    haha

  • Norway the most beutiful place on earth! I am proud to have been born in Trondheim :)!!

  • wow, what would mother nature do without a helicopter and a big swinging ball.

  • Very cool. That's one big Bambi Bucket!

  • Well, that's an odd sight.

  • Must be great to have such an imagination...

I bet the imaginary echo was pretty awesome!

  • nothing impressive? thats some skilled helicopter piloting my friend.

  • then i guess i am skilled =\

  • Cannonballs, you guys were too scared to get close to the rock?

When I was young we climbed up the mountain and knocked the rock down with a hammer and chisel and to do a clean job had 4 guys on the ground with a blanket to catch the rocks...

  • what was the water for??

  • just because its extremely good fun to lift water up high and drop it from a helicopter.

  • they use water to detach from the rock which remain on site

  • saab cars has now finished as from december 2009 but the volvo is still going

  • That was fJucking amazing.

  • LOL@ "The helicopter then displays its dominance of the Fjord by urinating all over the rock face." Bahahaha!

  • good job...pretty amazing!

  • whoa , i just got a new monitor and this video is the first thing i watch with it , is it just me or is this video extra crisp ? That and thats one hell of a job !!!! its funny to thing how crazy it is those fences are able to stop massives boulders falling from those heights . keep up the good work :D be safe :D

  • no... this isnt even HD

its actually somewhat pixelated to be honest

  • Man could you imagine if that was your job... fly a helicopter wrecking ball and smash a cliff... nice!

  • Comment removed

  • @GYKellner...it was in the video description: This is done to loosen and remove any remaining small rocks that may fail at another time and cream a volvo or saab on the road below.

  • How about 5 million bottle rockets?

  • epic vid .D ! 81 886 views on 2 days, thats pretty sweet mate :) !

  • Best video description ever.

  • "and cream a volvo or saab on the road below"

  • That must of needed a pretty awesome pilot to do that.

  • @sinlessmoon 'must have'

  • lol The helicopter than displays it's dominance of the Fjord by urinating all over the rock face.

  • "The helicopter than displays it's dominance of the Fjord by urinating all over the rock face."

lol I keep laughing at the description. I guess the helicopter is into a little scat porn

  • Great!

  • Badass Pilot

  • Just use nuclear bomb so they can blow up the whole mountain

  • that looks incredibly expensive.

  • That was cool !

  • wanna find a fellow who can satisfy my needs... Lol.

  • pining for the fjords?!? john cleese

  • Chuck Norris usualy do this with a sling shot but he wasnt available that day so Norwegian Gov. had to find a plan B.

  • @Retubetard

Chuck was getting his head kicked in by the Techno Viking

  • GET OUT ROCK I'M PISS

  • Why didn't they just fire explosive shells or use their air force to fire rockets onto the rock face?! that's hella of a dangerous job for the chopper pilot.

  • Because it's an unstable rock face. A large explosion would further destabilize the face.

Its flaky granite-- you'd have to set a nuke loose to ever get enough off that face so that all the flaky outer bits went away. And then you'd probably cause even more cracks.... etc etc

  • and you're an idiot.

  • An explosion on the face might cause a catastrophic failure and a full on avalanche. An artillery shell would open up fractures and might bring a huge sheet of rock down and totally obliterate the road below, leading to very costly repairs.

  • @syncmaster915n like napalm said. An explosion would also introduce more cracks and fissures that water would later get in a and freeze causing even more danger.

  • Lol the swings were sooooo weak, but the outcome was killer!! That was weird, but awesome at the same time.

  • i dunno bout sooooo weak, its prob like a couple tonne ball + the speed it was going at, prob was more than weak

  • great video

  • There's probably no safe way to get it in place.

    -jcr

  • I have no doubt that swinging a giant wrecking ball from a freaking helicopter is infinitely safer. in sweden.

  • Flying close to terrain that you can't land on is one of the more dangerous things you can do in a chopper.

    -jcr

  • Is the cliff ok?

  • Humans and our obsessions with Balls.

  • Amazing video. Thanks!

  • Fjord is a funny word. It is quite often used in WoW Wrath of Lich King expansion

  • @SpicyHam

Yes Fjord is a funny word. People laugh at me because I drive a Fjord Mjustang. Frankly, I don't understand what's so funny about my car.

  • @JRCrowley Ha ha! Trying to pronounce Mjustang with the Norwegian language is funny!

  • this would have been a great mission in Sim Copter

  • Helicopter wrecking ball operator was a career choice? I'm kind of pissed at my high school career councilor.

  • @nitwit005

Yea, no doubt lol. How sweet would it be to swing your balls around for a living.... o.o haha.

  • I feel like I'm in an tv store watching those random things about nature that they display on their lcds

  • good job road work

  • mankind is crazy.

  • Volvo XC90 is the safest care in the world so even if that big ass rock hit it, the Volvo wouldn't be the one with the scratches.

  • gimp

  • @thadopeman Go fuck yourself kid. Don't reply to this comment until you grow up and realize that an XC90 goes for $112k USD and that Jeremy Clarkson owns two of them...Have fun driving that Ford fiesta faggot.

  • lol, you're hilarious

  • and your mom is also your cousin, that's just the way it is.

    :)

  • For shale! That swinger's having a ball.

  • i woulda used a rpg.

  • The mysterious blue lights over Northern Norway were actually caused from a dust clown reflecting lights from this helicopter smashing rocks with rocks to watch them fall for amusement.

  • damn. USA better watch the fuck out.

  • @fozzymandias for rocks?

  • Best video I've seen this month. Good job, Norway!

  • I want that job!

  • Man that line would have gone at .13d now it's reduced to .12b What irresponsible management of the rock resource.

  • Impresionante. Que apañados los noruegos.

  • That is one of the best works of the world.

  • that has to be one of the top 10 jobs in the world:

I can't see anyone waking up and saying "ah man, have to go to work and break rocks off a mountain from a helicopter today...its gonna suck"

  • Volvo and Saab are Swedish. But the Norwegians do drive a lot of them. So.

  • I hope the terrorist don't get a hold of this beast.

  • @ResiduoFecal

No it´s not fake, you just don´t even know why they do this.

  • tard

  • I was more so reminded of Cliffhanger. Too bad that movie was never this exciting and dramatic.

  • It needed a mountain goat atop the rock for that extra dramatic flavor. :)

  • @perfectionbox and don't forget the narwhals from the lake below for that extra oomph.....

  • Beautiful camera work! Who spotted the instability in that rock? Do they have rock spotters or was it discovered by some random rock climber?

  • I was thinking the same thing.

    This is some hardcore maintenance.

  • awesome. the pilot must be a cowboy !

  • Amazing

  • HD Gyrocam looks great. The chopper is a Super Puma.

  • 2:09

  • So if you were to visit Norway, and you were happily driving along that road, your vacation wouldn't be ruined by a 100 ton wave-of-rock landing on your car.

  • To prevent the rocks from falling on to the road below while people are driving. Obviously the rock was unstable and was going to fall at some point. This controlled situation allows this to happen safely while the road is blocked off.

  • anyone with even the slightest capacity to think for themselves would have found this out :p

ppl ask stupid question, nice of you to help them :)

  • Musta been cheaper than a missile... though they could've maybe gotten some derelict barge or something, loaded it with TNT, and detonated it at the base of the rocks, that might've had a similar effect (more spectacular as well as saving choppa fuel)...

  • @DarthContinent I have a feeling that explosives would risk loosening up even more rocks, and making it more dangerous. Short of leveling the whole cliff, this is probably the best option.

  • They obviously knew what they where doing, so your speculations are pointless!

  • Thats a really really great pilot

  • I feel bad for Slartibartfast, In one move they dis his shit

  • Well played. one free internets for you.

  • amazing skill

  • Epic. What I most want to know is...how the hell do they pick out THAT ROCK out of all the available rocks to smash away and piss on?

  • Epic description: "The helicopter than displays it's dominance of the Fjord by urinating all over the rock face. "

  • So, Sven, what is your job. Well, Niels, I'm glad you asked. I am helicopter pilot who...

  • what an awesome job
