will any core i7 work on a atx mobo, I want to make my own PC and i dont know jack %*&^ about these things, so i am starting out at just making a rough price estimate for the necessary parts, but with core i7 and a good video
930's do exist, and should be in retailers soon. It's supposed to be a replacement of the 920. And for those who don't know, the 32nm 6 core (12 thread) i7 980x should be out soon too.
I have done some overclocking with this chip, in a room I got 4,2GHz stable with HT on and about 4,35GHz stable with HT off. When OC-ing with -18C room temp I got 4,4GHz stable with HT on and nearly 4,6GHz stable with HT off. With better cooling it's possible to go higher.
nice, lol.. i just have a air vent with a 90mm fan in it blowing the cold outside air directly into my water coolers radiator and i was able to get my i7 overclocked to 3.8Ghz down to 12C(53F)... plus, it cools my room down when it gets to hot..
is the stock cooler enough or should i buy a cpu cooler like the cooler master v8?? pls reply ASAp coz ive already ordered my i7 i wanna know before i assemble it ...and no i wont be over clocking it
Hey i just got my new computer with the i7 920 and theres this thing where it says i can "upgrade" my cpu to a 940 and i have to restart my computer. so.....whats up with that?
hey a liddle question , did yuou put thermic pasta on the CPU before you putted the cooler on it caus i see sometimes people who dont put pasta on it and isnt that wrong then ?
Wow, for being so expensive, it comes with a terrible heatsink. Intel is making TONS of profit from this processor. AMD's Phenom II X4 955 competes against the Core 2 Quad Q9550, costs the same, comes with a MUCH better heatsink with copper heatpipes and more aluminum fins, and is also faster. *sigh*
Wow, are you kidding me? Way to miss the point. For the price it's selling for, it should come with a decent heatsink. And it doesn't. It comes with a terrible heatsink that keeps it at more than 75C under load. The Phenom costs less and comes with a bigger heatsink with copper heatpipes that will allow moderate over-clocking.
Or they could just do like AMD and provide a good heatsink stock. You can take a Phenom 900 series stock heatsink and over-clock the processor to 3.4GHz and maintain cool temperatures. It's not very hard to do, is it? Either you provide something good or nothing at all. So yes, Intel should not provide a heat sink so that it lowers the price somewhat, since the stock one can barely keep it at safe temps.
AMD stock heatsinks aren't so good... my old Phenom 9850 @ 3GHz reaches to 70C with stock heatsink and Arctic Silver 5 paste which is too high for Phenom 9850. If you want to do some serious overclocking you have to buy an aftermarket heatsink anyways...
Yeah, right. Bullshit. Seriously, how can you say such a lie while keeping a straight face? And if it's not a lie, it just means you installed it incorrectly. The max. it could have reached is 55, and even that is doubtful. It's impossible for a cooler with copper heatpipes to get those temps.
No, it's theoretically impossible for it to be reaching those temps. unless you were doing something wrong or put the voltage core ridiculously high (1.6+).
Do you have Phenom 9850 @ 3GHz and 1.5V? If you don't you can't say that I lie about the temps... I have no reason to lie. Of course if I lower the room temp to 16C the CPU load temp drops to 65C. and If I run the computer next to a window (about 8C outside) the temps are around 45-50C.
No, I have a Phenom 9950, which is still exactly the same. At 1.5V with the stock cooler it runs at 41 C when idle, and 52 C under load. You're taking bullshit. GTFO.
intel is better for work and a little for game but AMD is fast but it will soon crashed.but this cpu core i7 is excellent for game and work and better than amd Phenom 2.and i use just INTEL.
Core i7 is not good for gaming when you consider the fact that it gets beaten in some games by the Phenom II X4. Their performance in games is pretty much the same. And having an AM3 or LGA 775 platform with DDR3 is much cheaper than an LGA 1333 platform.
AMD is lagging behind, and that's the reason for that Intel is best.
A friend of mine said. "But AMD's page clearly says that the AMD CPU's is a lot better then Intels. Why?"
Well, on AMD's page says that they're flagship is better than the old Intel serie. That's true but if you compare in a fair way, you'll have to compare the newest models from the both sides. And then Intel is the better.
Yes, Intel is faster at the moment (Core i7 VS Phenom 2)... but definately Phenom 2's are not bad CPUs... they overclock very good and also they run with a lot cooler temps compared to i7.
Core i7 doesn't compete with Phenom II, smart ass. It competes with nothing—it has no competition. The Core 2 Quad competes with the Phenom II. And the Phenom II is faster for the same price, so...
Well yes, I agree that P2 X4 920 is faster than C2Q Q8200 and P2 X4 955 BE is faster than C2Q Q9550 (also better for OC). I just don't agree that Phenom 2 955 BE is faster than Core i7 920.
I never said that the Phenom II X4 955 is faster than the Core i7, so what is your point? They are at different price points, therefore they don't compete. Looking at price points we can see that the Phenom 920 competes with the Core 2 Quad Q8200, and that the Phenom 955 competes with the Core 2 Quad Q9550.
940 has 23x multiplier and 920 has 21, 940 has 2,93Ghz default speed and 920 has 2,67GHz. If you're not going to overclock your CPU then the 920 definately is better for it's price and 940 is not worth it's price.
personally.I have ordered this gorgeous prosessor and it will become mine in two days. But I have ASUS Silent Knight II for a cooler.its the best.check my vids to see my pc.
Those intel stock heat sinks need an upgrade. Push pins aren't so great :( i7 is awesome, but I just don't have the money XD Got myself the Phenom II 940 BE ^_^
Btw, what motherboard was it that you have to RMA?
system just didn't post... i'm currently waiting for new one... i can't be sure yet that it was the motherboard's problem. It's possible that it was the chip's problem or PSU's problem too.
I can understand how you feel right now. When I bought 2 x 3870X2's one of them was 'broken'. A dipswitch was not soldered properly. first the store said it was customer damage but i managed to get it RMA-ed. Then i figured out another problem that my motherboard didnt support quad gpu. So i bought a new motherboard aswell in that store. after a month or so I finally got it all running. Was supposed to be video card ugprade but in the end I bought so much extra its just a new system lol
Unfortunately my mobo was broken and i'll RMA it tomorrow... i hope that they'll send me a new one faster than they did with my memory stick lol (10 weeks).
mul tuli selle videoga see meelde kuidas ma esimest korda oma q6700 karbist välja võtsin, võtsin õige pool alaspidi lahti ning jahuti ja prose kukkusid kohe välja kuid õnneks voodi peale :D
Great vid and nice CPU hope I can get a core i7 but waiting until westmere 32nm comes out and more support for x58 b4 I convert from 775 being I just got P45 board and all.
If i was unboxing that id be shaking while doing it because of all the shit id do with that beast. :)

Well, consider this:
AMD Phenom II X4 920: $150*
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200: $160
And the Phenom is overall 10% faster.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition: $215
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550: $220
The Phenom in this case is faster for gaming and the same speed except for encoding. And again, it's cheaper.
Also, you have to take into account that LGA 775 is on it's way out and AM3 is a new socket.
Atheismrulez 2 years ago
Well yes, I agree that P2 X4 920 is faster than C2Q Q8200 and P2 X4 955 BE is faster than C2Q Q9550 (also better for OC). I just don't agree that Phenom 2 955 BE is faster than Core i7 920.

yeah... if you turn off the hyper threading you'll get 4 cores that are 25-30% faster than same-clocked Q9650.

Do you gone nuts lol? :/ but of course you defend something for what you spend a lot of money.
HongKongKanto 2 years ago
core i7 is up to 40% faster in multitasking, and around 25% faster in singletasking.

Those intel stock heat sinks need an upgrade. Push pins aren't so great :( i7 is awesome, but I just don't have the money XD Got myself the Phenom II 940 BE ^_^
Btw, what motherboard was it that you have to RMA?
MinimeDrummerBoi 2 years ago
Phenom 2 940 BE is nice also! The mobo was Asus P6T.
arvutihull 2 years ago
It is! Dang that sucks, what was wrong with it?
MinimeDrummerBoi 2 years ago
system just didn't post... i'm currently waiting for new one... i can't be sure yet that it was the motherboard's problem. It's possible that it was the chip's problem or PSU's problem too.
arvutihull 2 years ago
I see. Good luck. Hope you get your mother board up and running next time.
MinimeDrummerBoi 2 years ago
How is the progress on your RMA-d board?
keldererik 2 years ago
new one should arrive somewhere in next week (if it won't, i'll call and remember them it lol).

Was supposed to be video card ugprade but in the end I bought so much extra its just a new system lol

yawn. We have all seen this. Show something good, such as start-up or benchmarking. Even temperature monitoring.
creakydoors 2 years ago
I would love to show you people these things but unfortunately I can't do it right now because I RMA'd my motherboard yesterday.

This is actually the video I was looking for. If you don't like the video look for the one you ARE looking for and don't post unneeded comments.
