  • How come I can only hear this in the right channel?

  • Ray gets his verses mixed up singing here if you listen carefully! It shows hes singing live though

  • I actually just got into The Moody Blues. I only knew their songs Nights in White Satin and Question. But after hearing this and Isn't Life Strange, I've developed such a huge respect for them. They are so original and unique and beautiful in their sound. Such an incredible band.

  • and adam and I , was about his son. who was in 911 , though it was written back in 1975 and sad loss indeed. ray other than pinder is who made the moodys the moodys. just listen to from the mighty oaks album.

it has a full orchestra. just like days of future passed.

  • I named my cat after this song! LOL

  • Lyrically profound. How many people spend their entire lives in meaningless outward pursuits, when they should be searching within themselves for meaning and purpose?

  • @mrsolofeo True you are. MB music does make you think about "stuff" in your head. LOL! I just think their music is beautiful with my kind of rythyms. Very easy to listen to and even if you're not the spiritual type (and there's nothing wrong with that!) the Moody's should appeal to a lot of music fans. I know most young people today will think this is just terrible music and you're not going to change their minds if they've been listening to JZ and other etc. hip hop bands.

  • @cloudjia Edge wrote songs too.

  • I thought Justin was the lead singer.

  • Great songwriting ,,

    the lost art of ..

  • I have ALWAYS loved this band, I grew up in a hippy household and my mom loved the Moody Blues (and Roger Miller) so I love both to this day.

  • @ameliessong lol

  • Would now be the right time to announce that Ray Thomas is in fact my 1st cousin twice removed? My nan's cousin :)

  • timeless

  • Oh how I have always loved this song!! This song takes me back to a much happier time in my life, full of true happiness and innocence! The Moodies are truly a phenomenal band of all time!! Their music is just so beautiful!! This is one of their fun songs indeed. I remember being a kid and just loving this song!! The Moodies have touched so many souls through the years with their truly brilliant music!! A true gem to the music world.Pure Magic!! The Moodies forever my friends!! :)) ♥

  • simply timeless.

  • Second only to The Beatles themselves.

  • Giz a job!

  • ............. was this ever cool? :S

  • two thoughts:

this one always sounds a bit Monty Python to me!

John looks like Ron Weasley here....

  • Wow, they sure look young, and Mike Pinder is even with them here. Very nich video.

  • Just great to see Ray Thomas and the unbeatable moodies from the sixties. They look as groovy as they sound. Wonderful!

    Great video.

    Tony.

  • they look like two boys and their two mustache dads. this song rules.

  • I bought this album in 1972. I bought another, and another...the whole set (had to wait for Seventh Sojourn). They wore out, so I bought 'em again. Bought some 8-tracks for the car, then some cassettes and eventually CD's and DVD's. Best money I have ever spent-they bring me peace.

  • The dude on the keyboards is definitely the one who got the most booty.

  • @Nza420

I'm gonna disagree. Hayward or Lodge probably got the most!!! Hahahaha

  • Awesome post!!! This is the greatest group of artist, writers I know of....My Favs for decades... Thanks man!

  • Where did you find that clip? God, they looked so...YOUNG back then!

  • Spinal tap!

  • God in Heaven!

  • God bless Ray Thomas. His contributions prevent the Moody Blues to slide into a Justin Hayward Band. On the other side it saved him probably from a life in cabaret circuits. I wish he had learn at least some acoustic guitar to strum along and gave him a more important role in later years.

  • Great clip ; who would have thought all those years ISOTLC was one of my very fav albums that i could be watching these clips all these years later ! They were there all the time though i guess somewhere.Pity about the 'dirty lense' effect for some of it ; not as 'Groovy' as intended !

  • too bad ray retired from the moody blues

although his contribution to rock n' roll music will be seen for generations to come

  • Ray Thomas is a jolly gentleman.

  • seeing him smile and being so happy when he sings make me smile, i just can't help it

  • Only the best and that is The Moody Blues!

  • If you go back and review the contributions by Ray and Mike to the MB, you realize they were substantial. I have never read so many genuine appreciative / positive remarks about a band and the posters here. I don't know who was responsible for the Edge/Pinder split, but both rather selfish and stubborn IMHO for not burying the hatchet over such a trivial remark..if that was indeed the true cause. So Mike, Ray, Graeme how about it? Just a studio album ? No need to go on the road. Music, Life!

  • These guys were so underrated and probably more original in sound and concept than any other art rock band of the late 1960's and 1970's.

  • @skilletchops Wasn't ELO a original art rock band?

  • @locojets

ELO came along several years later, but they're definitely in the same genre.

  • the thing about this band is that they all seem to be having a fantastic time while hammering out thier awesome songs. trully great band. . .

  • I think this song is about the search for meaning in life. It uses the metaphor of physical exploration for inner exploration.

  • They were absolutely GREAT, I saw them once in Texas, and will not forget it.

  • That's Pinder not ponder. They were never the same after he retired.

  • thats BULLSHIT they had world wide hits after they got rid of pinder

  • mmgdavis: What I meant was that after the 'Core 7" & "octave," the style, after pinder retired was so completely different as opposed to when he was writing, singing, & playin the "Mellotron." Patrick Moraz played strictly keyboards at his style, but nothing like pinder did. Moraz never sang or wrote. "Go Now" & 67-73 were when the MB's were at their finest. Hall of fame material. I define anything after 7th sojourn, good but not great. Pinder is credited with being the true founder of the band.

  • Did Ray sing this on the Album?

  • Yes bellybutton, Ray wrote it & sang it. He sang every tune he composed. The video left out the line "There are polarbears & seals, there are giant antartic eels." The video was shortened.

  • Sorry, my mistake on the explanation of a left out verse. I printed out the lyrics, & it appears that on the 3rd chorus, Ray repeated the line, "I've seen butterflies galore, I've seen people big & small." He instead should have sung, "I've seen polar bears & seals & giant antarctic eels." He goofed up, I guess. That's OK! We still love Ray! Hope he gets better with his health.

  • i love songs like this...you know songs with a story....a weird story...GO RAY!

  • Um, did he mess up the words? I seem to remember something about giant antarctic eels.

  • You are right.. good catch..

Polar bears and seals, giant antarctic eels..

  • it must be the acid

  • They are lip syncing. Listen to the acoustic guitar towards the end while Justin is playing an electric.

  • He's obviously not lip syncing. He screwed up a verse. They're miming their instruments, no questions, but unless they purposefully recorded incorrect vocals for this show, he's singing live. Which, I understand, was a popular format at the time, prerecorded instruments with live singing.

  • yur right they didnt have the tech they have now to do what they could do then,

it wouldnt work , they played it over a speaker to all of them ,yu dont hear that ,.then they doub the song simple

  • Great vid, thanks !! Moodies one of the best ever. And to the living trolls, whose brain hasn't hatched yet, go to the Michael Jackson crap.

  • it's very english music like kinks donovan and important to british movement across the broad

  • Ray is the man

hes got the best voice of all

    troll homophobe losers beware

your karma might catch up with you one day

  • Always loved how this song led into House of Four Doors with Pinder making the crossover.

  • You seem rather knowledgeable talking about gay...takes one to know one, I guess?

  • What's your point about Ray possibly being gay? Did that lessen his wonderful talent in making beautiful music? NO!

Stop the labeling...it's a very low form of hatred, just like racism. And, no I'm not gay.

  • I love the MB

  • @skatingantihero ray is still alive , he is on twitter from the mighty oaks. his solo album.

he lives with his family now. is seperate from the moody blues like mike.

  • Oh my gosh you look at this video and Ray and he's a packer! Is Ray Gay?

  • I thought Justin Heyward was always the singer.

  • Usually, whoever wrote the song was the singer for it. Since Ray wrote this song he performed it, just as NIWS was writtent by Hayward so he sings it. By the way, no one in the band sounds bad at all but I think Ray sounds the best.

  • I think that the MB is not inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is because they "snubbed" the recording studios during their early career. They willed to live their art not enfringed upon by studio "politics" and social engineering. Their bold adventure is why we have such an awesome musical legacy in our lives. *Goodwill*

  • could anything be funnier

  • I love watching Ray sing! He looks like he's having such a good time!

  • Shut the Hell Up.

  • rays vocal track sounds live but the rest of it doesn't. curious.

  • Rays definitely singing live as he gets one of the verses wrong!

  • he doubles part of the first verse

  • Just wondering how many other folks were hip to a very solid lip-synch/play-acting performance. 5 stars for the rhythmic accuracy of the visual performance, though. Of course, it takes nothing away from the Mighty Moodies' greatness!

  • If the MB's are so great,(& they are)then why would they have to fake it? Great vocals, harmony, instrumentation. The worlds smallest symphony orchestra, by far. Exit D.laine & C. Warwick.....The rest is HISTORY!!

  • I love you forever, this song is so hard to find on the internet. Of course I forgot to check YouTube for it until now, but that does not diminish my love for your providing this. Thank you very much!

  • Boa musica pra curtir!

  • This is such a great little gem. As far as I know it has never been played on the radio. But for the first seven albums put out by the Moody Blues every song is amazing. They are one of my favorite groups of all time. Peace

  • a talk radio show in new york used thinking is the best way to travel as a theme.

  • Love The Moody Blues, I saw them in concert on Halloween 2000. Got all the Lps, this one is a great track. Great Video!

  • LOL! What a great song!

  • yeah sweet

  • This song is brilliant. When I was in college I played the album In Search Of The Lost Chord till the grooves wore out. The Moody Blues are one of the greatest rock bands of all time. They still perform and they still sound great. If you can you should go see them in concert. You will be amazed. Peace.

  • Ray did not lose his creativity. The band worked best as just that--a band. Ray's flute playing is some of the best crossover from classical to rock in pop history. All the Moody's possess unbelievable musicianship and gave the Beatles a good run for the money.

  • abdulfez,

Giving you a big standing O to your incredible post!

  • So True! Thanks for your insight. I couldn't agree more!

  • You're right. Heck, Justin has one of the greatest voices in the history of rock and roll. Very unique, too.

  • I agree Ray had a great voice and did write some great songs, but there would be no Moody Blues without Justin. The songs that he did were the classics, he may have had the best singing voice ever.

  • Ray wrote some great songs and had the best singing voice. Somewhere along the way he lost his creativity. Legend of a Mind, My Gentle Lady, And The Ride Rushes In...wow.

  • Sorry, but that's TIDE not Ride. OK, OK, I'll shut up & go to my room.

  • Can't believe I wrote that! Inexcusable!!!

  • This is one of my favorites. Since Ray has retired, does that mean they no longer perform this song in concert? I hope not!

  • kalatzis,

Sadly, I'm afraid that is the case. As far as I know, none of Ray's [lead vocal] songs are performed. I miss him!

  • Fantastic song! Ray the best ;-)

  • Hey... I'm thinking about going trick or treating as Dr. Livingstone!? No on second thought, maybe an anonymous megamillions winner??

  • Candle,

I think I'll go trick-or-treating as "Nurse Livingstone" LOL!! Or maybe that Vampire idea I told ya about. Looks like I need to loosen up Rays collar there! I vant to biiiiite his neeeeeeck!!!! ROFL!!!

  • Hi Terrs, Well, Well... The good doctor has missed us all! Wait a minute Terr, "What's that Dr. Livingstone?" You say we've been naughty and you want to "what??!!" STICK US WITH A BIG NEEDLE IN OUR #SS!! Noooooooo, Terr, come on, let's make a run for it old girl... (to be continued...)

    ROFL!!!

  • I can't believe this! Where have you people been? Not been here to see the dr. in month's??

  • Now, that's Moody Blues!

  • One of the best things about the Moody Blues is their in depth historical knowledge. Very educated guys. Map lovers, British history lovers, all lovers --- everyone loves the Moody Blues!

  • Kinda surprising to see Ray's voice the only voice that isn't pre-recorded. Did he have anything which hampered him from lip-syncing?

  • berrygirl I agree 100%. Thos rays can just keep shinning down on me.

  • ahh,it is always good to catch some rays!

  • Hey Berr, I wasn't aware that you were krn's girl friday. I see you wear many hats my friend...

  • Where is that Berr??? Is she out there anywhere?

  • I wonder what happened to this director. It's a clever and nice video to watch. Thanks !

  • Berr,

I fear the same! Have mercy, redbaron! After all, we ladies cann't be held responsible for our own actions when it comes to the MB's. It is the MB's fault we act this way! lol!!!! And with that said, I think I will go to bed now and dream of my lovely Ray, if I sit here one more minute, I will crach head-first into the keyboard! LOL!!!! Nite all!!!! :) zzzzzz

  • Oh I´d give my life so lightly

    For my gentle Ladys

Give it freely and completely... to my Ladys!

  • red,

ahhhh, those words are dancing through my head like a beautiful butterfly!!!!!

  • Berr,

I'm back! Geesh! I haven't seen lightning like that in a very long time!! And very windy!!! Now the sky is a weird pinkish yellowish lookin'! EEEW!!!

  • Terr, Seriously, I hope everything's okay. Hi Berr, I was in rare NH having a few words with Mr. B. Stepping out for the evening...

  • candle,

All is well! What a storm! Massive lightning and wind!! Now we have a funky yellow/pink sky. I think the worst is over. @.@

  • Hey, the three of us were on a roll! I'm worried about Terr. Storm sirens? You sound like you're in Kansas Terr. I predict you'll wake up before long saying, "There's no place like home" with Ray bending over you caressing your hair...

  • candle,

Ahhh, yes! What a way to wake up!! I would immediately attack!!! lol!!!!!

  • OMG! Berr found the missing smelling salts!!!

  • candle, berr,

the storm sirens are going off. Guess I'd better hit the deck! I'll be back later. (hopefully)!!!!

  • BERR,

I bet he smelled better coming out than he did going in! XD

  • Berr, Speaking of partying, Terr and I were just wondering if "Big Bird" is also a slang for see-saw???

Oh wait... oops, I'm in the wrong video, OOOHWHAA!

  • Berr, I have great news!!! It wasn't Graeme driving the cab after all, a case of mistaken identity. I'm not sure who it was that your doggy ate... Hey, at least the tour can continue now! LOL

  • candle,

I think it was that dude from the Muppets.

  • Terr, I sent you a post before and it never showed up, does that happen sometimes?

  • candle,

yes, and I can't figure it out! Then when I go to post it again, I forget what I said sometimes, LOL!!!

  • BERR,

Yikes! Give that doggie some ipecac syrup and induce vomiting immediately! Graeme has been recalled and can no longer be used as pet food!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!

  • Girls, I think someone ought to contact Justin, John, and Ray 'cause we three ladies need a little comforting tonight after all this hooplaha! HA! HA! HA!

  • CANDLE,

I'm back. Had to mash in those letters in the pretty colored box that says I'm exceeding my comment limit!

  • Terr, Yeah, I feel like they're trying to tell me I'm talking too much or something!

  • candle,

Yeah, what's up with them? they should make an exception to the excessive comments and the 500 character limit for US ladies!!! We should be able to speak often and freely!! lol!

  • candle,

Tell them to get here STAT!! Drop their pant...oh, uh, I meant to say drop what they are doing and get here now!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!

  • Terr, Drop their WHAT???

  • candle,

    um,, their, uh, drawers???? XDD!!!!

  • Berr,

spray him down with some Dawn dish soap, get out the hose, and start blasting. lololol!!!!!

  • Berr, Maybe you could invite him in for a cocktail???

  • BERR,

Don't let him get away!! Detain him!!!

YIPES!!! THUNDER BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!! At first I thought it was just me generating electricity, but this is the real thing!!!

  • Terr and Berr, That wasn't thunder! It was me crashing into the back of his blasted cab!!!!!!

  • candle,

bahahahahahahahahhhaaaaaaa!!!!! In tears laughing so hard!!! Oh my goodness! ROFLMBO!!! typing from the floor!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDD

  • Berr,

Yep, I get the warm fuzzies for Justy and Johnny, and the absolute HOTS watching Ray bouncing with the music!! lol!!

  • Terr and Berr, Warm, Fuzzy? Even better than my oldest slippers ladies!!!

  • Alright, you beat me over Berr! I hit traffic on the way... I have this cab in front of me, some guy driving with a beard... Wait just a minute, I don't believe this!!! It's Graeme!!!!!!

  • berr,

Caressing??? Oh, my but that Ray has a way with words! OH BOY!!! Well, if he needs to "brush up" on his caressing lessons, the TEACHER IS IN!!!!! ROFLMBO!!!

  • Terr and Berr, You gotta help me out here. I don't always get these abbreviations. I know ROFL is "rolling on floor laughing", but the MBO? Does that mean "my bathrobe off"???

  • candle,

Ohhhh, possibly!!! XD!!! Depends on why we are rollin' on the floor! hahahahah!!!!!

  • Berr,

Tap happy!!! BAAHHH HAAA HAAA!!! Ray came up with a good one there!! Oh, that Ray. Such a sweet and funny guy!! You know, I bet he would be an absolute blast to have over for an evening tea!! He would probably keep me in stitches the whole time! Such a witty, smart, fun guy!!! Oh, I could stir his tea with my finger to sweeten it up!! LOLOLOL!!!!!

  • Terr, NO, NO, NO... Didn't you mean to say have over for an evening "of me" instead of "tea"??? HA, HE, HO!

  • candle,

Oh, yes! Darned keyboard made an error again! XDDDD

  • Berr,

Watch what he "lights up" too. What may appear to be a Marlboro, just MAAAAAYYYYY be something else altogether!! HA HA HA!!!!

  • Wheww!(wiping sweat from my forehead)that was close...

    hee, hee, hee!!

  • Yeah Berr, that's right. See Terr, nothing to worry about... Dr. Feelgood, I mean Mr. Thomas, we hardly paid him no mind at all, although...he seemed to be paying Berr an awful lot of mind... Wait a minute, no one else can read what I'm writing here, right???

  • Berr, Saw you in "New Horizons" no vocal track. Love this version and without the vocals you can hear the beauty of the melody so clearly. This has always been a favorite song of mine...

  • Hi Berr, I sent you a post, but I think I hit discard by mistake. Must be from the wine. Speaking of wine, It was Graeme who gave it to me while I was riding in the back of his cab. I see he's back to his old tricks again!!! HA!

  • I have a splitting headache from 2 glasses of wine so I'm signing right off. I'll try and have the prison guard slip a note to you both tomorrow... Geepers, we sure get into a lot of trouble when we're together. We're like the three musketeers! LOL......

  • berr,

and our teeth......ohh, Ray just called and said "Bite me, Baby".LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Berr,

Well, I am very glad that you all landed safely after Graeme buzzed my workplace in the Lear Jet!! It's a wonder RB didn't have heart failure!! LOL!!! I hope RB saved me a piece of cake!!!! He can feed it to me in little tiny bites, and hold my tea for me to sip, since I'm so tired!! hee hee~!!!!! Really, Edgie needs to leave the flying to somebody else!! He's just miffed because we can't find him a girlfriend!!

    BAHHH HA HA!!!! :D

  • Hi Terr, Berr and I were REAL GOOD GIRLS! Right Berr, we just went to a little old birthday party for John. It was totally harmless. We did nothing but eat cake with lots of kissing oops!, I meant to say icing that is...

  • candle,

Who, oops, I mean what was the icing on? LOL!!!!

  • berry,

Ohhh, tell Ray that when I get rested up, he is in the most wonderful "trouble" he has ever been in!! LOL!! I hope you ladies took it easy on poor Ray, after all, he is pushing the 70 mark, and has some health troubles!! Hope he has something left for me! ROFLMBO!!!! Too bad I couldn;t have been there to lick the birthday cake off of Ray's precious face!! LOL!! XD!!!

  • Yeah, if kissing and hugging these guys is against the law, then we'd definitely be commiting crimes (of passion, hee, hee!!!) Oh Officer, arrest us... LOL

  • candle,

Oh yes!! We are "Guilty As Charged" LOL!! But our guys would bail us out!! They would miss us so badly, we wouldn't even spend a whole night in the slammer!!

    BOND IS POSTED!!! LOLOLOL!!!!!!!

  • Candle,

Ohhh, I just had a thought!! Ray, Lodgie, and Justy in full cop uniforms, HANDCUFFS and all!!! Saying to us 3 ladies, "You are all under arrest!! We're gonna have to haul you all in and book you!!" Ohhh, yeah!!!
