I usually don't vote Republican but Ron Paul gets my vote. He's a huge reason why it's important to think beyond your stated party affiliation; sometimes it's necessary as a voting citizen to carefully decide on your presidential candidate, regardless of which side of the political spectrum you're on. In this case, Ron Paul is the most qualified, best choice and wisest candidate currently running for President, and we need him badly.

@toolejitful I want to let you know why most economics regard Austrian economics, as opposed to Chicago, Keynesian, and neoclassical economics, as heterodox. Austrian economics is based on the principle that economics cannot be measured mathematical—that is have predictions (future inflation, interests rates, prices, etc.) made based on currents trends and probabilities reflecting those trends—because people cannot be trusted to act in their own interest. Most people view this as illogical/silly

I also think Ron Paul knows much more about economics in general than most congressmen, and it is only his emphasis on the Austrian school that concerns me. No. But, he has been saying this not since 2003 but since the 1980's. So although it is correct he's not the only one, what matters is none of the other candidates he's running against have the same level of understanding about economics. By the way what is it about Austrian economics that freaks you out?
@toolejitful The refusal to use econometrics, the fact that most Austrians want to implement a gold standard, the refusal to look at futures in a reasonable way, the strange ideas about how utility should be calculated and the way this could influence public policy, the way some Austrians would not want to break up monopolies, etc.
Still, Austrian economics is better than entirely Keynesians policies and any form of socialism, at least in my opinion.

In the end there aren't enough resources for everyone when only a small group of people decide how much true knowledge gets disseminated. I think knowledge is the key. Knowledge to say, grow food, harness sunlight energy and water from the atmosphere can liberate society. No one said that any model is entirely accurate, which is why I simply said that non-Austrian neoclassical economics were "best." Austrians make decent analysts and work to answer questions that can help consumers, but they do not make good leaders. Keynesians have their share issues. Paul is still better than Obama on economics.

I usually don't vote Republican but Ron Paul gets my vote. He's a huge reason why it's important to think beyond your stated party affiliation; sometimes it's necessary as a voting citizen to carefully decide on your presidential candidate, regardless of which side of the political spectrum you're on. In this case, Ron Paul is the most qualified, best choice and wisest candidate currently running for President, and we need him badly.

RP went 'Republican' because the the syesten is so favored to a two-party system. He is a through and through Libertarian - but most don't know what libertarian is about. - 90+% want the Libertarian notion IMO - The prob is that they are not funded my major corps/lobbies because the one fucking us over are the ones who support either Dem/Rep. That is very true. No matter which election I've witnessed during my lifetime (about 7), it's all been about Democrat vs. Republican. After I started learning about all of the current United States political platforms, I realized that Libertarians are my people! 8)
It would be great to see the other parties, especially the Libertarian party, gain enough funding to compete directly with the Big Two, but it's gonna take something big for that to happen.

Paul just gets to the core of the problem..we've strayed from the Constitutional blueprint. Give me any current issue and I can trace it back to some legislation that defied Constitutional principles. The majority of Washington is trying to put band-aids on problems when surgery is needed. Paul understands the need for surgery, its a harder task but produces better results.

@toolejitful I want to let you know why most economics regard Austrian economics, as opposed to Chicago, Keynesian, and neoclassical economics, as heterodox. Austrian economics is based on the principle that economics cannot be measured mathematical—that is have predictions (future inflation, interests rates, prices, etc.) made based on currents trends and probabilities reflecting those trends—because people cannot be trusted to act in their own interest. Most people view this as illogical/silly

@toolejitful He was just one of few politicians who was outspoken about it. Many economists and people in finance were almost equally concerned. I also think Ron Paul knows much more about economics in general than most congressmen, and it is only his emphasis on the Austrian school that concerns me. By the way, using such an argument is illogical anyway: It is entirely composed of an inappropriate use of ad hominem. Just because he is Austrian and right doesn't make Austrians right.

@PolitcalIslam Granted, nobody knows everything but I'm not saying Austrian economics is right. What I was saying was that Ron Paul was right. Was he the only out there trying to warn people? No. But, he has been saying this not since 2003 but since the 1980's. So although it is correct he's not the only one, what matters is none of the other candidates he's running against have the same level of understanding about economics. By the way what is it about Austrian economics that freaks you out?

@toolejitful The refusal to use econometrics, the fact that most Austrians want to implement a gold standard, the refusal to look at futures in a reasonable way, the strange ideas about how utility should be calculated and the way this could influence public policy, the way some Austrians would not want to break up monopolies, etc.
Still, Austrian economics is better than entirely Keynesians policies and any form of socialism, at least in my opinion.

@PolitcalIslam I'm no economic genius but it appears there's no perfect economic model? In the end there aren't enough resources for everyone when only a small group of people decide how much true knowledge gets disseminated. I think knowledge is the key. Knowledge to say, grow food, harness sunlight energy and water from the atmosphere can liberate society. But when you introduce propaganda (advertising a product you 'must buy with THIS money' all that goes out the window). Me thinks, I dunno.

@toolejitful That's neoclassical economics in a nutshell: people competing for limited resources and looking for the best possible way to use allocate those resources. No one said that any model is entirely accurate, which is why I simply said that non-Austrian neoclassical economics were "best." Austrians make decent analysts and work to answer questions that can help consumers, but they do not make good leaders. Keynesians have their share issues. Paul is still better than Obama on economics.
