I have the laguna 2 gt and it runs up to 5000 rpm with no problems:D it just kicks ass. i havent seen such a high reving diesel engine before until I had my laguna:D. it is the 2.2dci with 150 hp and I had no big problems with the car and I drive my car 2 years now with 190000km. This is quality :D

ummm, 2.0 dci from renault is one of the best diesel engines in the world atm. It quiet like petrol engine, its goes much smoother and better than 2.0tdi, it doesnt loose power before 5000 rpm. Go and drive it..

I did drive it, it's not that bad it has power, very uncorfotable (my opinion). the RPM has nothing to do with this!

the 2.0 tdi does 160 km/h at only 2900 RPM, and goes over 240 Km/h no problem, and this is only the 140 HP not the new 170 hp, and damn, it accelerates two times faster than the 150 hp renault.. plus, they are heavier than renault, and still more economic!

You can't compare a german engine quality to a french engine.. srry

tdi doesnt accelerate faster because laguna has 0-100 pretty same as tdi, and 80-120 in 4th and 5th gear are faster with laguna.

Also, 2.0dci does 235km/h with no problems, and its more quite....TDI is too rough...too loud.

I have tried Mondeo 2.0tdci with 130hp, I have tried passat 2.0tdi 140hp, i havent driven a3 2.0 tdi, but my friend has one, so i can ask him for a test drive....Also , i have drived citroen c5 2.0 hdi....and none of those cars arent quite like laguna, and none of those cars dont pull from low rpm to high rpm like laguna.

I just drove again yesterday a Laguna, and I was so disgusted, I never really liked any french cars, they have too many useless things, it's calm and has power, but I dislike the way they drive!

german cars are more simple, and much more best quality. I dont really care about the power, if it's an Audi and that I can be sure to drive it till it's 300000 km with no engine issues

try the + 2005 sportback model, it's much more quiet and powerfull, I was honestly surprised for a diesel!! BTW, the new A3 2.O tdi delivers 170 HP wich I havent try yet!

I agree for expensive services, but we have a garage with 60 cars, and the first cars that has technik problems are the french ones!! specially Renault, the worst part is that those ones only have like 50k km..

ok....renault has 2.0dci with 175bhp, which is more powerful than new audi 170bhp engine, and still its quite like petrol engine.

And i had 3 renaults, and never had a single problem with them...true the laguna 2 had quite poor interior build quality, but the new one is very close to BMW and Audi quality. Much better materials than passat, mondeo or 407.

And if you didn't know, on Euro Ncap test, laguna III has max 5 stars, and they said that laguna is the safest car... you stupid f**k every1 knows Renault builds state of the art engines. The only diesel on the market that beats Renault 2.0 dci 180bhp is the BMW BI-turbo that delivers over 200bhp. But it's a biturbo engine if your head can understand that. For sure Renault lacks a lot (or at least it used to) but not engines.For ex Passat had a recall short time after it was released (ECU related issues); Renault builds diesel like no other. And wait for the V6 3.0 dci;It's gonna rock ur world.
