There are a lot of negative comments about Mike Smith here which is fair enough, when I think back to other interviewers of this era they would have been just as bad, possibly worse. Nick Ross and Selina Scott wouldn't have been able to handle this any better. This was around a time when Mike Smith was hot property at the BBC. Very awkward viewing. How could he not remember which was Jill and which was Rose!?
I wore out my original SS (mispressed) album, a thing of beauty in every way!
Love them, I'm a big fan. Love their accents! I'm French & I understand Jill much better than Rose.. :) I love the way she says "when you get into routine" !!!! lovely
This is brilliant! Thankyou! Have loved Strawberry Switchblade since the 80s. Now thats one band I'd pay to see reform. Jill and Rose, you listening..?
Also you know what. Strawberry Switchblade are better than suckish band Paramore. Problem there aren't enough all female bands and we need more of them.
To describe anyone as 'Boy George's' Sisters is a terrible insult to any woman. He was very false, and now, over the years he has proved himself to be what he really is: lowlife, a junkie, and a thoroughly rotten person. I liked Strawberry Switchblade. It was sad how they faded as quickly as they arrived. A great era.
@taoist77 she was married to Drew McDowall they were both in the band Poems together, they have a daughter who was born in 1980 Kari McDowall, you can she her on one of the later TV interviews from 1995. Drew must have know Coil from the days when did stuff in PTV. Later Rose was married to Robert Lee who worked with her during time as 'Sorrow'.
@taoist77 if you watch the interviews from 1995 she did she talked about The The, Psychic TV and other british bands, if she knew about PTV then she knew about Throbbing Gristle and Coil, Current 93 and all that I mean they were all in London in the Club scene and they would have crossed paths many times... Read the Book 'England's Hidden Reverse' if you really wanna know.
Just love their thick accents. So sad the two had to part over something so bitter as bad management and money. In the end they owed so much money to the record company that what they started out doing with love and creativity was destroyed by the politics of the record business.
Very pretty girls. Just a bit depressing that all the girls I lusted after in my youth are now post-menopausal. Except for Kylie - she's still only about twenty-five.

It's so hard for me to digest that this is the same Rose McDowall who sang on 'To Drown a Rose'. Mind-boggling.
Rhademanthus 1 year ago
@Rhademanthus Can you please explain why?
simoom37 1 year ago
@simoom37 It's the deep Glaswegian accent which is just such a contract to her high, clear ethereal singing on Di6's stuff.

@Rhademanthus ok I now see ;) I hadn't got it that way, sorry..

Weekday audiences actually. And it was aimed at adults, not kids. You obviously weren't born until about 1991.
AdmiralBirdseye 2 years ago
Is there a problem with being born after 1991, AdmiralBirdseye?
JohnnySwitchblade 2 years ago
Ain't that Sian Lloyd and Amy Winehouse? And what a boring fart Mike Smith is. It's probably why poor Amy turned to drug use.
