do you know if a rc dieselized two stroke has more torque than a nitro 4 stroke of the same size since its dieselized and people say diesels are ussuall more stonger??
is there any way to modd. a nitro to run on straight deisel. i know deisel is pretty much just oil so you shouldnt need to add any lubricants right? in my head and my theory, if you have a high enough comp. ratio, hot enough glow plug and the correct fuel, air mix then it should run on diesel i would think. plz reply with your thoughts, suggestions, or comments
These are two strokes that run on a fuel and oil mix. The primary fuel part can be, pump diesel, kerosene and jet fuel and are more refined in descending order.
The formula is,
39% kerosene
39% ether
20% oil
2% Amsoil Cetane Booster
And this is, in fact, a model fuel but there is also glow fuel which is a mix of methanol, oil and nitro-methane.
These use a glow plug to initiate combustion.
Diesel engines use a contra-piston and are pure, compression ignition engines.
A diesel engine is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel, which is injected into the combustion chamber during the final stage of compression.
"which is injected into the combustion chamber during the final stage of compression." nope, this one uses a carb and compresses the mixture, not just air!
@hopeso I had a little cox power PT as my first control line. One day I started it and when dad let it go it went backwards. Used the same spring starter as this, just did it the wrong way.
You make or buy a special head that has an adjustable piston over the regular piston. As you adjust the compression ratio, you find the correct compression to spontaneously ignite the fuel on compression heat alone. No spark plug or glow plug required.
Your fuel is 40% kerosene, 40% ether, 20% oil and a bit of cetane booster helps.
yeah I agree! and if you guys are afraid to use your hands there is an option, get yourself a dowel or a stick just make sure you wrap it with a rubber or something to hang on to the props better yet ask your local hobbyshops they sell those
To the guys bitchin about the way he is starting the engine, It is perfectly safe to use a spring starter and all large gas engines are started by hand. If you were in the hobby thirty years ago starters were frowned upon do to the wear they caused on the back plate and drive washer. I hand start all my engines and it is perfectly safe... if you know what you are doing.
What I am trying to demonstrate is how easy AND safe it is to start a diesel using a spring starter. It amazes me how this has been misunderstood.
And, as you say, hand starting is also safe, especially with such a small engine.
I have hand started weedwhacker type gassers but prefer to use a ripcord. But I am lucky to have a lathe that lets me make the necessary, extended hub.

Is RC planes worth losing a friggin finger? Dont be an idiot. You think they would have found a way to start these without the risk of losing their hand. Dummys
hes not doing it right, rotate it counter clockwise.... not clockwise. there are more chances that it will start up backwards then forwards, and if the engine fires at compression, he could seriously hurt himself.
Yes, most of the engines in my videos are converted from nitro/methanol based fuels. Airplane guys call them Glow engines because they use a glow plug. Diesels don't need a glow plug.
cool, my nitro cars and boat use glow plugs but i refer to them as nitro. i always wanted to get ahold of a diesel, i love the way they use no glow plug, instead compression to ignite the fuel.
Sorry for the delay in answering. YouTube doesn't always alert to when there's a comment.
The fuel is 40% kerosene, 40% ether and 20% Klotz Benol, castor oil. About 2% of Amsoil cetane booster is also added.
The tank has a vent line attached to the muffler. This pressurizes the tank. Blocking the muffler while spinning the prop applies a charge of prime to the engine which is a two stroke.

it all depends on the engine...

@phin3s Not in this case - no injecter, is an air fuel mix.

looks like you were spinning it backwards?
adb140275 2 years ago
No, I'm using a spring starter. Note that I engage the clip at the hub, then I crank it back a turn or two and let go,,, in the correct direction.
But I WAS trying to start a .15 backwards, the YT title is "Something Wrong"

i had a .40 os and i alway start it backwards and rev it and runs clockwise lol

I'm using a spring starter. You wind it clockwise and then, let it go,, counterclockwise,,, the correct direction of rotation.
Look at the hub of the prop while I'm cranking it. You can see a clip of wire, that's part of the spring starter.
hopeso 4 years ago
I recon you should watch the clip one more time and think things through before you post nonsense. Think, it doesn't hurt one bit to do it.

1. where do you get the parts to dieselize your Norvel .074? Is it just a "plug" or head too?
2. what is the plane you are showing here?
Thanks-
4nedeer 4 years ago
I made a diesel head to fit. It uses a contr-piston to adjust the compression ratio.
The aircraft is also my own design.
Do a search on Google Video for "Norvel Diesel" to see it fly off of the snow.

what's the electronic device being held in front of the engine?
killensworth 4 years ago
That's photocell tachometer. As the propeller blade passes by the sensor, it reads the flashes and translates them into an RPM reading.
hopeso 4 years ago
oh i see thank you

has anyone else noticed the delay in the sound of the engine firing?
boredmud 4 years ago
Yes, the out of sync in the sound is a kink with YouTube. I've asked them about it many times but apparently, it's a glitch that they can't fix.
Thanks, THERMACTOR.
hopeso 4 years ago
bummer, makes a nice effect though lol, your engine by the way is very cool, was your engine a standard nitro with the head converted?
boredmud 4 years ago
Yes, most of the engines in my videos are converted from nitro/methanol based fuels. Airplane guys call them Glow engines because they use a glow plug. Diesels don't need a glow plug.

Unfortunately, the Russian made Norvels are no longer in production. Best bet is EBay or the classified ads on RCUniverse.
Not mentioned is that the diesel head for this and all my Norvels are custom made. My fault for not making that point in the original comments.

Must be two. So, is it running on gasoline, fuel injected then? Muffler block startup, thats great! Thank you man!

This is a Norvel .074 two stroke glow engine. A custom made diesel head was made for it.
