love you guys alot, its lovelly to see that they are getting some help and i will continue to spread the messege about thses guys and their homes, thankyou for posting these videos, look forward to helping out more.xxx:)
Sad & tragic as it is for these babies, the reality is, if deforestation & habitat loss continue, it is NOT logical to help rescuing them, who need very large, prestine habitats to live in. They are not meant to live in caged facilities. We, as homo sapiens, either leave them some of the earth's habitats or we should not even try rescuing them. Extinct animals are better off than caged animals, especially for the large majestic ones who have psychosis & neurosis in captivity.
there's got to be more that can be done than adpoting. We need LAWS in place to make cutting down the forests illegal. Why can't the locals organize and go out to the forests and refuse to move in the face of bulldozers etc, while another group organizes to adress governments and demand certain laws to be put in place. Our consumarism will end one day anyway, when there are no more resources, what will we do then when the planet is literally destroyed and has nothing more to give us?
Lore and your team I salute you all for the essential work you are doing to help these organutans. I hope a solution can be found to stop further palm tree oil farms and forest destruction. We must all lobby govts to work together to safeguard this unique location but at the same time the people living their must be given a different way to earn an income. What can be done to replace the lost income?
In response to #1 (below),:orangutans are released into protected/ patrolled areas of rainforest to prevent hunting & abuse. Also, you're watching toddlers. Just like human teenagers who spend less time with parents, adult orangutans seek privacy. I've seen a huge difference in one year's time among the at the Care Center where I work. Natural instincts kick in. Yes, it can seem overwhelming, but we can't give up. You can make donations to buy hectares of rain forest for this purpose.
As I watch, I am puzzled by what I see. So, a couple of questions:
1. The apes have absolutely no fear of Humans. Released, how can the animal be kept from hunters, poachers, and general abuse if they like to be with Human?
2. The TV shows more than 600 diapered, sick, recovering, etc. orangs at BOS, and more coming daily. It seems an impossible task to re-forest those animals. What is the long-range plan? It seems hopeless and impossible by shear numbers. There must be some contigency. Yes?
They live in a protected enviroment. With the aid of cash through people like yourself..hopefully..they must have the human's teaching them how to survive as their mother's are killed and they have to be taught everything. So sad..please keep Palm Oil out of your diet. So many alternatives.
Okay. I eat a very fresh diet, so likely I am not a user of palm oil in any noticeable quantites. Of that, I am sure.
Something to consider too: If all palm oil is stopped, then how will the thousands of Human families that have come to rely on the product fare? How will they support themselves? They must not suffer. They are just trying to stay alive, too. They are not mean or bad. There are always two sides to every story.
There are many organizations that are helping the people of this region to stop the palm oil as they can't afford to get people to help them clear the land, as we pay so little for Palm Oil, and they just burn the rainforest down. So many animals are killed and orphaned. I know of two organizations that are helping stop this type of farming and cattle farming also as it taints all the forest. You can google all this information. It is there. Also at the site above.
Fantastic work Lone, thanks for keeping us posted regarding Kesi, Lomon and Grendon. If we all made a small contribution to BOS the forest/habitat would have a better chance of being securely reunited with its rightfully owners, the orang-utans and other wildlife species. Great to see that you have help and assistance from local people in Borneo, let us hope that Borneos inhabitants will find a way to share the land with the orang-utans and especially to show these lovely animals some respect.
Our environment is 'priceless', figuratively and literally, performing a role which would cost trillions upon trillions for machines to duplicate a greater sum than that of the GDP of all the worlds countries. We need to go back to the drawing board with our attitudes towards tiger economic growth and development as at the moment it may occur, but at what price and for how long?
I guess it's because it takes time, organisation and investment and biodiversity is just collateral damage to a quick profit and expanding economy and consumption, the drive towards biofuels being an incredibly stark example of this train of thought at a Governmental level. Perhaps at first intentions were good, but come on guys it's not rocket science... look at the consequences.
It would be naieve to expect sizeable Palm Oil production to halt any time soon, but I just cannot see why sustainability isn't a greater consideration for Governements on this matter. The exponential destruction of rainforest isn't going to help Malaysia or Indonesia in the long run! This expansion and destruction of natural habitats needs much tighter regulation, some sort of compromise between production and sizeable areas left as virgin forest, across different regions of the island.
