love this post our band (not billy's band, a basic country band) was being asked to turn down... for kicks we tried to keep some people happy.. ended at the mains off, a little monitor, the bass amp off, the drummer doing nothing but stick clicks and a tele just about played acoustically .. they were happy. The rest of the crowd wasn't but played along... then we filled the floor with rock and roll by led zep... They left... funny... Dancefloor filled... never saw people dance to LZ on sawdust.
You all should shut the hell up about addicition or excessive alcohol use. Billy is a great guitarist and teacher. Last I checked, this was a lesson he posted and not a forum for "rehabs". Why don't you view this as it was intended by Billy-as a guitar lesson!
Bill is still the man! A great talent. We all have our demons to fight. I have faith he will come out the other side. the Fam and I love ya. Carrie Foster
It's a shame about Billy. He has really allowed excessive alcohol use to ruin his potential in the music industry. I used to be a huge fan, now it's just sad.
I hope so. We were once very good friends and it was a shame to see him in such a state in that small trailer, "peeing" out the window and desperate. But I understand addiction, as I work also work in a chemical dependancy unit, as well as other hospitals. I am rooting for him. I wish him the very, very best!!! :)
Billy was worrying us all there for a while. I just saw him last night and he seemed like a new man. Great show (well, it was open jam night at Monty's, so that's always uh, interesting.) When Billy is on, he's on.
Oh, and I can't think of the elderly lady's name that thought Billy was too loud and an idiot, but I believe she passed away a few months ago. She was a fiesty one!
It's wonderful to hear such kind words from people that obviously care for Billy. I've not seen him in several months, and it makes my feel good to know he's pulling himself out of his issues and taking some pride in himself and his amazing talent. I've loved the man like a brother ever since we first met, and y'all agree, when he's on... he's brilliant and one of the most engaging entertainers around.
That old lady was a bit harsh. You folks are brave to air that one. She did crack me up though. She was soooo drunk. She is funny, funny, funny!!!!! :)
WP, Yup... you certainly know Billy! LOL! And, yeah, that old gal definately wasn't into the band, and that's a fact. But, I just had to tape her, she was tooooo hysterical! Maybe Billy will read this, and realize that there are still alot of people out here that used to love and respect him. Maybe it'll wake his ass up! ( we can only hope! )
I thought and still think he's a real condescending little jerk. I hope the marriage "tamed" him and he's come down off his high horse.
I'm still working hard in both music and writing and thought he could assist at one point, as I was a fan of his years ago. (Well no Thanks Billy-I'd rather work with a "giapet"). Your head alone is big enough to fill an entire auditorium. (Metaphorically speaking).
Hmmmmm...I think at one time Billy had charisma, but now he just looks old and wasted. He can play really great when he wants to. He can read about himself in the "after cursings" regarding an negative article written about Dave F. Trio. I'm the "He knows who I am person".
I tried to be a friend to him once upon a time, but found him to be rude and abrasive-it could have been the alcohol though?
Thanks for the great video Billy and friends. Grandma Ada (the old lady in the video) is 90 years old and still comes to Monty's Tavern every weekend to knock back a few dozen highballs and smoke her Virginia Slims. Amazing she can even still HEAR the music, much less complain about the volume.
Billy Hagen is the hardest working guitar player in Oregon. When he performs he the man gives it everything he has. He challenges himself every time he picks up the guitar. The lady in the video was drunk and is down right nasty. Why did she stay?
Lone, You obviously know Billy! Well, you gotta figure that she's a regular at that bar, and it seems she's known for being, ummm... shall we say.. rather 'outspoken' when it comes to the live music there. Who knows why she stayed? It's a total mystery! But, gotta admit, it made for some entertaining footage! Billy himself asked me to catch the old gal on tape, that's why I came up with the 'Billy Hagen LIVE DVD interview' idea!
We're gonna start the 'I Hate Billy Hagen' Fan Club... and i'm gonna tell that old biddy that she's the honorary president!! hahahhaha!! naturally, you're welcome to join! heehee!! i still laff when i watch it.... and I'm the one that filmed it!! hahhahha!
consider yourself one of 'us'!! hahahaha!! little do you know what you're getting yourself in for! We're a badass bunch... as the ol' gal said : 'Yer a bunch of freakin idiots!' Naturally, we took that as a compliment! :)
I have aged alot of years and smoked alot of pot since 1985, but didn't Billy Hagen write my favorite Christmas song? And did he ever get the $15?

I used to hang wil Bill back in the very early 70s.
I could write a book about those experiences.
Maybe I should.
For those wo want a better understanding of "the issues", just google THIQ
I have avoided Monty's and Ickabod's for decades due to the second hand smoke issue. Now maybe I can take in "a show".

If you were a fan then you should give him another chance. Bill is doing his recovery and is a changed man...he is brilliant again.
