Dawn was first produced by Topper in 1970, not the '60s at all. And Gary's not so nerdy when he wears custom fashions. He actually looks pretty cool. I collect these, and I like to sew for the guys.
I had Dawn. I remember being so bummed when I found out she was so small! I thought I was getting a full sized doll like Barbie was. Dawn was about the height of an adult finger. I rarely played with my Dawn doll.
These were AWESOME to watch! I was BIG into the Dawn dolls when I was about 4-7, so that'd be around 1973-1976. I didn't know they came out earlier than that. I still have my old ones and a lot of clothes and shoes. Unfortunately, none of the playsets.

the negative side of Dawn, she was half the size of Barbie. The doll stood to Barbie's chin. What made Dawn not last, girls would rather have a Barbie.
I don't remember Dawn. Only Barbie. So Dawn must have not lasted long. I was a very girly girl, but I cannot for the life of me remember Dawn. If this was the 1960s It's no wonder I was only six when the 1960s were over.
So funny.....that's actually NOT Kevin in the commercial, it's Ron. Kevin's hair is parted on his left side, not his right. But Kevin is my favorite of the guys. The guys always got short shrift on the fashions, which is why I like to sew for them.
I was lucky, I was 10 when Dawn came out, even thou I was a MOD Barbie fan, Dawn & her friends were mine & my friends favorites. Wish they would come back again. Will kids of today appreciate glamour?
Uh I'm not remembering Dawn dolls in 1960 or discos for that matter. From Wiki: Dawn dolls are small fashion dolls that were made by Topper between 1970 and 1973.
Oh how I loved my Dawn Dolls! I think I had all of them except for the boy ones. My mom and sister had to help me with put their clothes on. They were so tiny and so was I! They had little tiny pearl or gold buttons that were so hard to fasten. I would love to have them now. Sadly I don't!
I still miss having these dolls. I actually remember these spots, too. I just LOLed at the Fancy Feet & Kevin piece!!
The tiny shoes were a pain in the ass, but I loved the silver & gold stuff in the outfits. I also had the beauty shop, the phone & lounger, the fashion show (not portrayed in the clip here), & the bigger fashion case with the dancers on the front.
@HappyJenny1 Nooooooo lol There's a 31-year gap between Dawn and the Bratz :P Reyn meant that the situations of Topper (Dawn) and MGA (Bratz) were kind of similar :)
i think my mama had some of those dolls when she was younger. we saw one of the dolls at KB toy store and she bought the last one. some other woman bought a whole bunch of the dolls.
I LOVED my Dawn dolls. i had Dawn, Angie and few others. i was devasted when i was playing in a corn field with her and her her head was washed away by the irrigation. i never found her head so that was pretty much the end of my Dawn Doll playing days. :(
I recently sold my Dawn collection on Ebay. I kept photos of everything. I was just hoarding them. Now I can look at the pics I have as well as this video. Thanks for posting, I love all the old commercials.
In 1972 I visited Canada with my grandmother when I was ten - I was able to get a Dawn in a bridal gown and a Dale doll in a short mini dress - I loved playing with them and its good to see them on here. Wish I could get the Dale doll again tho.....
Dawn is so killer! I love the way she dances..! I love her ironed hair and cat eyes and a-line minis! I love her black and white raincoat! I love her boots!
Realistic miniature furnature was all the rage in the 70's and building dollhouses for this furnature was very popular. Barbie was too large for these dollhouses. What made these Dawn dolls great was that the size of them were scaled perfectly for the standard dollhouse.
I had these dolls. they were so much more fun than Barbie but they were very hard to dress because of their small size. But they were in the early 70s not 1960. thanks for the memories.
Yes... I remember them still have some of them too. A door to door salseman came buy when my grandma was watching me because my mum was in the hospital having a baby and tried to sell her them for me in 1970.He said that every little girl would want one and they would be the doll to have. When I saw them he was right!!! Grandma never bought them for me though... didn't have the dollar that it cost back then.
I think the collage of commercial clips is great but Dawn Dolls only existed from 1970-73. They weren't around for very long but they are still my favorite dolls.

They were not more fun than Barbie. You are incorrect. Probably because you is not the most intelligent person in the world.
